Elina is tremendous! Listen to that rich full tone! She communicates the message of the music superbly. I have always loved Callas' Carmen but I also love Garanca's Carmen. Let's appreciate and love her for the great artist she is.
sorry to have to tell you this but that beautiful blonde hair and those stunning blue eyes wont be seen on the HD broadcast. she wears dark colored contacts and a black wig to look the part of the gypsy Carmen. i know because i saw two rehearsals and a final dress rehearsal of her at the Met. she is amazing. the new production is great, its very sexy.
A tall blonde Carmen ? Wow! I'm looking forward to watching the HD Broadcast of her from the Met coming up in Mid January 2010. Don't miss it if you are a fan.
a beautiful song none the less, but this version holds less feeling than some to me. primarily because there isn't a crowd in the background singing as well. Her voice is, without a doubt, very beautiful, but i just hold preference for a different singer.
@msnnnbc No, actually she only wore a dar wig, but not dark coloured contacts. In the 'Carmen' DVD, you can see her blue eyes very well. And I am really glad for that, because otherwise that cruel, "man eating" look of Garanca's Carmen wouldn't have quite the same effect. The cold, blue eye colour adds to the general coldness of her look.
also i must admit, there is less body language passing than the other singer, she just sorta stands there and sways a little looking around. this song is about love. not enough emotion display from ms. bizet. But again, as i said, beautifully done.
@boguswoman81 you are correct about the contacts. she had them at some points and not at others it seems. but on the HD broadcast they were nowhere to be found.

@ClassicalRelated I'm a nerd and she's my favorite vocalist... don't categorize us :P
I like to listen to Elina without the coral singing

great voice, horrible director.
Fantastic, you are one of my favorite singers
I had the pleasure of attending that performance at the Met. She was absolutely stunning as Carmen.

@cicorocuu Maria Callas ist Tod. Elina ist heute hier! Und sie ist eine schon Schauspielerin/singer.
