Hunyak is Hungarian. I like that, unlike other shows might have done, they didn't just use Hungarian-sounding gibberish, but actually translated her pleas into Hungarian. My high school friend got his Hungarian immigrant parents to translate it for the group going to competition.
Yep, because the idea is that all the numbers are in Roxie's head, and Marshall couldn't figure a way to make "Class" fit in. He came up with that because he figured a movie audience wouldn't buy characters bursting into song within the context of the story itself. Because of that, I lose some enjoyment of the movie, because I don't like Marshal not trusting his audience. To make up for it, here's Bebe Neuwirth in the 1996 revival (which I saw!), singing it with Marcia Lewis as Mama: ruclips.net/video/Li2xA7jVing/видео.html with a bonus of her singing as Mama several years later. That production had Joel Grey as Amos and James Naughton as Billy, and Ann Reinking as Roxie. The original 1975 had Chita Rivera as Velma, Gwen Verdon as Roxie and Jerry Orbach as Billy. I remember watching the commercials for that one, but never got to watch it. The movie did film Jones and the Queen: ruclips.net/video/jO5mZF_SbIw/видео.html - it's really good and it's a shame they cut it from general release. Here's how the 1996 revival handled the first number: ruclips.net/video/zg0oy53kpUw/видео.html
I love this movie so damn much!!! Not only are the songs and performances all fantastic and catchy, but the way it's shot with the real life/fantasy lines blurring, the stage lights, the costumes, VISUALLY STUNNING. Glad you finally got to watch and enjoy!!!
No, she wasn't pregnant during the filming of "Chicago". Chicago filming dates: December 10, 2001 to May 2002. Carys was born in April 2003. Kind of hard to have an 11 month + pregnancy. She WAS pregnant when filming "Traffic" and it was written in to the script.
0:42 Yes, yes he is! That’s Taye Diggs. Also if you haven’t watched it yet, you 100% need to watch 2008’s Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway! It’s a pro-shot film of the very last Broadway performance. It is so good!!
$2 in 1926 (the year the stage play that "Chicago" is based on came out) is about $35.50 today. Not bad for a time when a loaf of bread cost 9 cents and the average price of a car was $515!
I love that even though they did not use the song Me and My Baby, when Amos finds out that Roxie is pregnant you can hear an instrumental version playing in the background.
The woman who wrote the play this musical is based on hated her own play because she wrote it intending to critisize the real life muderessess, but her play ended up doing the thing she was critisizing (gave them notoriety and attention)
The two main characters and the Hunyak were based on real people. The main difference is that the real character was Italian and she got the death penalty but before her appeal one of the other two gave her a makeover and taught her more English. She appeared in court looking and sounding better and her conviction was overturned.
The Wiz. An all black cast version of The wizard of Oz. It's starring Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, and many other black actors and artists. All the songs are unforgettable but the one I think is the best is 'You Can't Win' performed by Michael Jackson. Your a joy as always. Can't wait til next time. Wishing you Peace and Love ✌️💓
Fun fact, there was a 2015 version, with Queen Latifah as the Wiz. I was somewhat disappointed as I would LOOOOOOVE to hear her sing No Bad News, but on the other hand, her costume and makeup were goddamn gorgeous. I 😍Queen Latifah. Another Queen Latifah movie I enjoyed, not a musical, but Last Holiday. She's so charming, and OH MY GOD she is, as always, absolutely stunning.
The whole diary thing actually isn’t in the stage show, which was a bit disappointing to me when I saw it because of how brilliant it is. In one fell swoop, Billy gets two of his clients off scott-free. And I love the way they visually tie it together and emphasize his quick thinking and masterful playing of the courtroom with the tap dance. :D
Chicago isn’t my favorite musical (I do love it, it’s just not my top fave), but this is probably one of my favorite musical movies, because at every step they demonstrate how much they understand and appreciate stage musicals and how to adapt them. It’s just so good. :D

Some of my favorite movie musicals are The Music Man, Hello Dolly, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Victor Victoria, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The King and I, My Fair Lady, The Boy Friend, Footlight Parade, Gypsy (with Rosalind Russell), Bye Bye Birdie, and Kiss Me Kate, to name a few
In the play Roxie has even less of a reason to shoot Fred - we're nearly at the end of 'All that Jazz' and then it goes Roxie: "So it's over, is it Fred?" Fred: "yep" Roxie: "oh fred....no guy walks away from me!" (bang bang bang) "....oops...."/"...oh......oh I've gotta pee"
You know, that "They both reached for the gun"-song, changed my entire TikTok-Channel, because I made a Hamiton/Burr Edit to it and it's by far my most watched video with 3.2 million. So yeah, I love this movie! Great reaction also!
