Best miata is every miata. They are all great cars, and deserve some love. The fact that they're so universally moddifiable and fun is why we love these cars. Keep up the great vids guys, these have been fun to watch.
I'm an rx8/nc fan but Dave Coleman has a great breakdown on the updates the ND got and man. It's just the better car. Even down to how the bushings are mounted to the chassis to help prevent toe under acceleration and braking. The they really put engineers into the chassis.
When Dave's maniac laugh comes out on track, you know it is a fun car! That ND2 looked really nice. Hope you guys give the K-NC some love with better gearing, would love to see that. Thanks for doing more track video's this year!
[japanese accent] Track Battle! Fight!! Really love this content! Thanks so much guys. Also, "not a horrendous gap; 4 or 5 car lengths." Friends, those are bus lengths. I appreciate the ND compassion.
would love to see that! stock they make about 215whp so the nc making similar numbers in the lighter car by about 300lbs should be quicker but not by a huge margin 👍
The ao52 works best when it is slightly stretched on a wheel. Thats probably why he went with 225's , its probably faster than a wider tire on the same wheel
@@e36s54throw a sticky set of 255s, Sways, and coilovers and an NC will destroy many many cars for under 12K. ND2s have been destroying S2000s in autox for years.
Nice !!!! I have a stock -ish 2015 NC3 Club, with 65K miles and just beating the crap out of the engine, ... lets see if it last 100K miles, would love to K-swap the car (but live in CA, but could reg it in NV )
Hey @speedacademy guys... my son goes to school in Hamilton and I see him regularly... do you have fabrication shops you use. Maybe you can DM me some recommendations to friendly ones.
Cool to see a featured community member ND2 on a comparison but damn yall gotta dial in that kswap nc suspension. It's a bit too much lol, eeek eeek eeek 😂 Fun nonetheless.
One on yoks and one on the worst track tire I know. Race is over. Tok has by far the softest sidewall of any tire. Infact the yok is the lightest track tire by a fair margin. The conti is just a super hard combo endurance tire. I'm a time attack guy and realize some just want to turn laps but being far off pace is not something you want in a track tire.
I don’t really get a K swaped NC. For $3000 you can have a Cammed 2.5 that makes 200-220WHP and revs to 7500 and making 200TQ. VS over $10,000 for a K24 swap making slightly more power.
@@tigerrider6711 "...6-speed manual rx8 had a claimed output of 232 hp (235 PS; 173 kW) at 8,250 rpm and 159 lb⋅ft (216 N⋅m) of torque at 5,500 rpm with a 9,000 rpm redline. Sounds like an amazing track engine to me.
@@michaelangelo5783 the K motors make that at the wheels. No reason why the renesis shouldn’t redline at 15k rpm when a dohc engine can do it from the factory without tossing valves.
@@mitchellsteindler Only because the gouging from kmiata or whatever company. Ludicrous prices. I can't think of another swap that costs that kind of money. I mean a k24a2 200hp engine is $750-950. Most engine mount kits, trans adapter plates, clutch/flywheel and headers are $500 a pop. Most wiring harnesses are $400-600 and ecu are $500 to $1500 for a standalone. It's insane that they're kit is $10k + (without engine). Where's the chinese knockoffs when you need them?
I'd take the ND just because of the nicer interior. The NC is a better looking car since it doesn't look like it's squinting all the time like the ND does.
What about the Feb9 Tuning 2.4L Scalpel build? A kit they sell to reduce the displacement of a 2.5L MZR to 2.4L. Its good for revs and boost if the correct pistons and cams are chosen. Fab9 claims it should max out at around 230 whp naturally aspirated with the proper ams and pistons.
Those skyactiv motors are really good at being normal commuter car engines, still good DD torque but they get INSANE modern GDI fuel economy, you can't not give props to Mazda for figuring out how to make a GDI engine that doesn't turn the oil black after 4k kms like most others from the 2010s 😅
I have to be honest. Ever since you guys moved from Fortune Auto suspension to Anex stuff it seems like every car using them is compromised in some way. I get they are sponsors but their kit seems like junk. And the NC suspension seems like the worst one yet

ND is impressive how well it performs with how little mods it has. Nice video 👍
More Miata content is always welcomed. I’m picking 2.5 NC for budget since already have 10 cars to maintain/mod
Damn, having that many cars must suck! You should give a few to me so you don’t have such a huge workload! 😂
ND2 is justr so beautiful looking, looks like a mini jag
I love my RF. It looks like an exotic car for a fraction of the price. That price does include a fraction of the horsepower as well 😂
[Clarkson voice] Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag!
I got to drive a stock ND from Michigan to Florida and I fell in love with it. Hands down a great car
Compare it to a new gr86/brz, I wonder how the bigger 2.4 compares to k24
The 2.4 BRZ/86 are dang near equal to the ND in performance so I don't think there would be much difference.
would love to see that! stock they make about 215whp so the nc making similar numbers in the lighter car by about 300lbs should be quicker but not by a huge margin 👍
A modified BRZ/GR86 will do a 1:19-1:20 on this track with 200tw tires like A052s for reference.
If I had the money and had to make the choice between the two I'd pick the Mazda that doesn't blow up 😅
I want to forget my desire to build a NC Miata, then I watch these videos 🔥🔥 that ND2 does looks like an awesome car with minimal mods
Love it! Both are amazing. Love the ND if I’m street int but that Kswaped has some serious legs!
Every minute of driving the ND2 on track, made him 2 years younger.
Ah yes, this is what me and my coffee was waiting for... My Saturday AM is now complete. Thank you SA!

Except for the s2000, SS 1LE, EG, EK, FK8, 4cyl 1LE, and FL5.

Same, seems as though the cab is quiet and easier to live with every day. But you work with what you got, I get that.
now imagine the ND with a proper (4-2-1) header and a soft top.
The 421 really helps the TQ of the skyactiv engine

K swapped ND would be peak.
Very good video 😍Obviously I prefer the NC swapK engine,as a owner of a 2.5 forged 500hp NC I love the feeling of my nc❤
Nice to see you wearing your Wrist Widget.
Hopefully that rear coilover just needs adjusting because that travel was alarming. So close to a Best Motoring episode, just needed an NA.

ND2 for me.
The k swap with shorter gears would have destroyed the ND
Would love to see these same comparisons but with a Mazdaspeed NB with basic intake/exhaust/suspension mods.
You really need to get a 6 speed on the K24
NC 2.5 was top down, might create a bigger gap if the top was closed.
Hard convertible for the win

Thank you 🙏🏼
The K NC with the brakes of the ND :P
K-swap all the way!

Supercharge the ND2 and compare them. That should make for a close competition,

What brand is this display gauge in the NC?
I'd love to see a duratec V6 swap

Lower redline, reliability, power, torque than the k engine?
