    Thank god for guys like you and RUclips!! Can’t believe they didn’t put this in to begin with. Should be a prerequisite that an engineer works in the field before he designs anything.

    So you see the video above where I cut an access cover. Now last week I had a long drive. My wife i asisted that we take the Durango. I wanted to take my Dakota. So we took the Durango. We got about 30 miles down the road and she sputtered to a stop. Was fuel pump.. I bought a cheapo... So I had a friend bring me a new pump. While we where on the side of the Interstate I pulled the back seat and pulled the old pump and put the new one in. Literally took 20 minutes with removing the back seat and reassembling with trim reinstalled. That was fast.

    This summer I had a pump failure on the interstate. Once I had the fuel pump. It took me 20 minutes to change out the new pump. On the side of the road. Took longer to yank the seat out. Lol

      That’s interesting. Is it possible you’re having issues with the fuel pump relay as well?
      These models have 2 recalls concerning the relay, the first recall to hack the relay wiring at the TIPM to install an external relay, the second recall to redo the wiring hack and replace the failing external relay. I’m starting to think the whole fuel pump system is bad on these.

    Like others have pointed out, there is probably another pump on the other side. It uses an eductor (jet pump) to transfer fuel back to the driver's side. The fuel pressure regulator and pressure return are on the passenger side. There is also another fuel level sending unit there too - the computer averages the signals.
    The odd thing is, on our Chrysler 300 with the same system, there are access plugs under the rear seats!

    one question, please:
    what tools did you use to cut the metal?

    Pneumatic metal shears or hand metal shears may be a safe spark free alternative.

      what were the systems that made you think it was a fuel pump ?

    • @gerbilnator430
      @gerbilnator430  4 года назад +1

      @@skitazzz i could here the pump, running but it wouldnt start. I took the air box off and i could get it started easily by using starting fluid. And it would stay running but had alot less pickup/power then it used to. It diddnt have enough fuel pressure to start the engine. But it would keep the engine running because that requires less fuel pressure. During cold start up it needs higher fuel pressure. The fuel pressure regulater is in the fuel pump also. Thats how i determined i needed to repalced the fuel pump.

      See the rubber grommet. You can pull the rubber grommet out to visually check for the location of the fuel pump. I believe its the same tank setup. Even with the larger engine.

      Should be the same. Look for the rubber grommet you can pull it out and see the top of the tank or the fuel pump installation housing.

    Just a heads up there are two fuel pumps. A main and auxiliary. If you just replace the main you may end up having the same problems again.

      remove the seat and see if that gromet is in the same position. you can remove the gromet for the wire loom and stick your phone in the hole take some video and find out. they havnt changed much over the years but i cant say its the exact same.

    I have one of those things in my shop right now. I was hoping that I'd find an access panel under the rear seat, but no luck. I'm going to do the same thing you did, but I was thinking that the pump was on the other side, judging from where the electrical connector is for the pump. I have alldata and it offers no clue about this damn truck. There are no electrical diagrams at all for any component. No information about fuel pump replacement, nothing. I'm going to drill some holes to have a peak, I'm still skeptical my pump is where yours is. Thank you for the video, it looks cold there.

      505197 you should be able to pull the wiring grommet and see in there. i used my cell phone camera to see. it has a secondary pickup on the passenger side. there is another video that they drop the tank, but that requires pulling the drive shaft and the exaust to get the tank off.

    • @505197
      @505197 5 лет назад

      @@gerbilnator430 I used my little air saw to get the panel cut out, and afterwards got a wiff of fuel. I sliced the tank a bit on the inner back corner of my panel removal. Oh well, such is life. I will JB Weld the tiny cut shut and let the truck sit for 24 hours before returning it. I used a hose as a drill stop because I was worried about puncturing the tank, from the outer backside it looked like I had plenty of clearance for my back cut across.
      Thanks again for the video, it made things so much easier. I'm 68 now and easy is what I prefer. I own a one man electrical/diagnostic shop and get a lot of work from other shops. It's not getting any easier, I'll say that. When I saw all the crap that had to come out under the damn thing I about decided to send it somewhere else and just charge for the diagnostic.

    • @gerbilnator430
      @gerbilnator430  5 лет назад +2

      @@505197 sorry to hear that. I believe JB weld makes a specialized putty mix for gas tanks. Other wise the plastic bonder should work. Use a plastic safe cleaner dish soap works. Then score/scrath the plastic with some coarse grit sand paper for the plastic bonder to adhere to. I did use a grinder but not the safest due to sparks near gas tank. Using plastic bonder is still way safer then the old way of filling the old steel gas tanks with water or exhaust fumes so you can weld it.

    nice, the factory should have done this in the first place, jackass's. I did this with a 3 inch cutting wheel on my 2004 Durango, there's a bit more to cut when you get through the thin metal, but I wouldn't use a sawzall, I tried, and not as much control with the blade, even though there's no sparks. I heard that a guy used a Dremel with a mini cutting wheel, probably would have worked better but I went with what I had and lived to talk about it, see you did as well 😇
