- In this episode my brother In-law, my dad, and myself get into the fuel pump replacement of my nephews 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. I thought the truck was a 2005. all the same from 03 to 05 with the 5.7L Hemi. Enjoy the video it got crazy.
Thank you for doing an indepth video and breaking it down in terms I can understand. My 09 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 L Hemi is riddled with issues. I picked it up for 5 G's. Took it to my local mechanic and put $4,500 right back into it. I am now doing the rest on my own. I appreciate all your hard work Brotherman.
Wow I’m following you. No BS narratives. Just a Stone Cold Steve Austin straight to the point. Thanks brother
Auto Guy this is an excellent how-to video. Noticed that you advised using a 5/8 and a 1/2 socket for this procedure. Every single nut and bolt on every vehicle are metric since 1976. Some SAE and METRIC sizes will work but they are indeed different. An amateur could strip something out and have to spend a good some of $ to correct it. Your videos are some of the best on RUclips. They help me. This just a bit of ❤ advice from an Old Schooler. You are truly appreciated.
Thank you brother 🙏
I’m doing this for the second time in 4 yrs, the first time the same plastic Bose connection broke off on me too, I had to replace the whole tank and pump then and my tank was the one that was the most expensive and was 1400 dollars around that l am sure. You make it look easy but it’s not as simple as it looks. I think you’re the man for this job. HMU 🤙
Only comment I would make, is that it's a good idea to disconnect your battery wires from the poles before beginning any work around an open fuel tank and especially when working on the electric fuel pump. Ground the frame to rid yourself of the risk of static electricity as well. Just a thought. - WKBMD
NICCCCE! Ty for the great informative video
Your welcome
Hey brother, thank you so much for always giving us a good information on all your videos.
I got a 2003 1500 5.7 hemi
Thank you I watch your video from start to finish to fix my fuel pump on my ram 1500 4.7 thanks a lot you is a true blessing
Thank you sir
Thanks man, good job, about to do my 04 Ram, its getting hard to start, takes extra. Crancking to get it to fire up.
Yes sir. Thank you sir
I had a fuel pump replacement on my 05 Dodge ram, I knew it was going to take all day with at least dropping the fuel tank or lifting the bed so I came up with my own idea to cut a hole in the truck of my bed right above the fuel tank and weld in a frame and now it's 10 minutes to get any kind of work there on my fuel tank the cut grind and reeling of my fuel tank window in the bed of my truck only took about an hour and a half. So it was quicker to make the window to my fuel tank then it was to do either of the recommended methods for changing out your fuel pump.
Did that with my old Bronco but my ram is 2 door short wheel base and the pump is right at the crack between the cab and bed.
@@jeremiahbartholemew6688 cutting a hole in the bed rather than removing 4 bolts? Genius. Just genious.
Right on! glad you were able to fix nephew truck 👍🏻😘
True statement lover bear
Good shit! Appreciate the video. 1st video I found in a real worl scenario. Everyone else had it on a lift. Most people aint got that. Been struggling today. Didnt even think to tale off the back tire. And break the fuel line off of tbe old pump. That is a good idea. Will be doing that tomorrow.
Hell yeah brother let's go diyers
Great video, you explained everything, thanks!
Thank you buddy
Thanks for this! This is gonna save me some $$$ 🤘🏻👊🏻
Thanks the advance big dog
Good job man, keeping them dodges on the road .
You know we do whatever we have to do to keep them rolling
Thank you for making this video it helped me out a lot I got a 2003 dodge ram 1500 4 x 4 with a 5.7 hemi with a 26 gallon tank I have 270,000 miles on my Dodge and it’s starting to act up I’m going to have to put a fuel pump on it
Your welcome sir
Thanks for the video, got to do my 05 ram, it did the same thing today. Hoped it was the relay but it wasn't.
NICE 🤘
Great advice about that vent valve.
About to do the same thing thanks
Great job BTW I'm much more confident afters watching y'all knock it out
Thank you sir
Great video.
Great job bro, you just saved me some $$
YES SIR, THANKS BRO 💯
Loved this video good shit my guy
Replaced a lot of fuel pumps and a lot more to do. A shop vac is a lifesaver. I definitely enjoy watching it done on vehicles I haven't had to work on. Good work well done
I have one on an 03. It's a different tank set up
nice rusty hole in muffler , happen to mine to same spot. when i did a performance muffler they tilted it slightly to stop water drip puddle
Big dog, we ain't trippin we are driving lmao
Good job thank you
It would have been a lot easier for you to remove the truck bed that way you got to mess with no lines or dropping a tank it's only six boats you have to remove the tailgate stop lights one ground strap on a passenger side just pick up the bed slide it back a little enough for you to have clearance slider back maybe 5 to 6 ft back I've done this procedure lots of times with different trucks yes it's time consuming but in the end you don't break no lines
Great job!
Thank you buddy. It was quite the adventure 😆
You make it look easy
Thank you big dog. It's only work
That’s what’s up ja, that was a great cut man peace!!!!
Thank you brother
Hell yea mine went out omw home from work I'ma try do it in parking lot
That's what's up big dog. Handle it 😎
Take the bed off. There is only 6 bolts a ground wire and unplug your tale lights. It's way easier. I would never drop the tank again.
He'll yeah
Use metric tools on metric fasteners
Shit. I use what I got.
Auto guy what's the name of the tool did you used to disconnect that cable
If your talking about the fuel lines. It would be a fuel line disconnect tool
Thanks G! Where is the fuel filter? Or is part of the pump?
It's apart of the fuel pump
👍 thanks
Your welcome sir
My truck has turned off twice this week at a stop shortly after refueling I figured I'd better change the pump/filter to be safe
@@autoguydiy4244 I'm crossing my fingers there's not already to much crud in the tank causing this
3rd gen rams laid the foundation for the 4th gen which in my opinion was the pinnacle of ram. Looks like 5th gen is back to mediocrity
I have been hearing that alot
I was wondering about that vent. I broke mine by accident trying to unseat that damn locking ring on my pump
With that its going to have to be replace the tank are find away to secure it the best as you can. I used zip ties to secure the one in the video
@@autoguydiy4244 I was gonna try why you did, it was also suggested I get a brass double ended fitting, glue and the the hose and nipple from the roll over valve
At this point I would definitely try whatever you think would work. There is no pressure on it. you're just looking for a decent connection.
I’m bout to do this on my 04 1500 5.7 hemi
Hell yeah let's go brother
Super simple job
I just put a bypass relay on my pump...thinking that was the issue...but it wasn't
What going on with it to begin with
Love the tips as usual. Is your pump original in your 03? Also love your nephews cat lol
Thank you brother. The fuel pump in the 03 is original
@@autoguydiy4244 my 04 4 door made it 192k before she crapped out
Atleast you got almost 200k out of 😎😎😎
Did you take out the fuel pump relay because I couldn't find it
No. If your looking for it. It would be in the fuse box under the hood
Number 58 fuse
I'm heading under my 04 tomorrow to replace the fuel pump but I can't find the in-line filter,or is it something that has been deleted cause of the one on the pump?
The filter is apart of the fuel pump.
I appreciate the video brother it helped me with my 04. I do have a question for ya, on that 04 I’ve replaced the fuel pump, the coil packs, spark plugs, plug wires & now the cam sensor but when driving the damn thing it starts running bad like it’s missing, cutting out even some backfire out the exhaust. If you stomp the skinny pedal it will clear up and run good until it acts up again usually after it idols a bit so I kinda figured it’s something in the fuel delivery or the throttle body. Just wondering if you have encountered anything like this. Thanks again!
Check your egr
@@autoguydiy4244 copy that! Thanks
Your welcome sir. If it is spitting and spuddring.. most likely Egr Valve. The valve is normally closed so if it's stuck open or slightly open it will let to much exhaust gases back in the engine. Which in return will make your truck run and idle like shit.
@@autoguydiy4244 thanks again for the help!
Ridiculous prices of these parts. The pump assembly shouldn't cost over $200 and the same for that other plastic assembly for the vent hose. Those parts should be made out of metal.
Agreed. The part prices are ridiculous. That's why I try to do my best to keep my trucks going. For little to no money sometimes. There's alway a way. I was thought that " If There's a Will There's a Way "
What brand Pump?
I'm not to sure my brother in law purchased the pump before I got there.
im ready to change fuel pump on my 05 ram coz of losing power
Hell yeah
Does a sensor attach to the top of the fuel pump? I thought I saw one 5:27?
That the plug for the fuel pump itself. The rest is the roll over valve and evap components
Thanks brother
@@autoguydiy4244 lol if I didn’t watch the video I would have no idea what you were talking about. I really appreciate you talking the time to reply.
@@brianharris5520 your welcome sir
Where is the fuel FILTER ? Didn’t see it in the assembly
It's inside pump mechanism
It comes with the new fuel pump sir
@@autoguydiy4244 oh ok I replaced the assembly myself. Truck starts now 👍🏼
But after filling up, now it shuts off and idles funny sometimes? Wonder what it could be
@@gorillagomez424 that sounds like a vent issue. Did you check roll over valve and evap system on top of tank
@@autoguydiy4244 yes, it had popped off, so I secured it “jimmy rigged” it. Some silicone and a crank strap. Best I could do for now. Since they don’t repair, allegedly have to get a new gas tank and can’t really replace those
Take out batteries + _
The one beside the pump was that the Fuel filter?
It's the roll over valve for the evap system
Gotacha I have a 2008 4.7 thinking mine is in the tank couldn’t find the location online just guesses do you think my owners manual will have the location for the fuel filter?
@@tylergeorge9266 fuel filter is apart of the fuel pump
@@autoguydiy4244 So in other words I’ll be better off just replacing the Whole Fuel pump what my truck is having issues with is climbing hills it’s either that or clogged Fuel injectors I don’t have a check engine light so I’m in a guessing game right now lol
Definitely change the pump. It will come as a complete unit with fuel filter
🙌🏼💯🫀🧠👌💪🏼✌🏼thank you 😅📚
Your welcome sir
Anyone ever took the bed off instead of pulling tank? Im thinking about doing that mainly because my bed is rusted out underneath n i can shake the truck bed pretty easy, but also worried about opening up another problem or multiple ones.
That there sir is a pretty easy process
Unbolted the tank then bam the tank was out, didn't show shit about what needs to be unhooked from the tank and still left crap on the top of the tank. There are some Mexican mechanics you should have watched you could have learned something.
Hahahahaha
