    I really like the mid length videos where you highlight portions of the game, and edit a whole 2-4 hour game down to 20 min ish.

      Yeah, I make those videos because they're more in line with the sort of video I'd like to watch. I just feel as though this game ends too abruptly to make for a good civ spotlight, but it's also interesting enough that I figured I'd upload it here. Outside of games that are cut short due to technical issues (such as players losing connection), this is the shortest free-for-all game I've ever been in that's been conceded, which makes it interesting in its own way.
      Don't worry - there is more edited, short-form content coming.

      @@HersonCiv I don’t mean only civ spotlights, just editing down a game like you do in them is enough. Really enjoy ur content tho I think it’s the most and to an extent only civ 6 content I find palatable. I used to be cpl rank 1 teamers back in 2021/22, but haven’t played since then.

    Herson - I regularly play with a group of friends. And lately I am getting beat up… every time…. I get rushed by a vindictive Aminatore whose sole reason to play is to destroy me. Do I go an early Millitary civ and build encampments for protection? Who should I focus on playing as for early rush players who get off on my destruction? How do I balance both infrastructure and Millitary protection? I regularly play as Khmer but lately I am more Millitary focused, Trajan, Basil. I love your videos your the man! Also the game is gathering storm without BBG mod in case that is a major factor.

      Without BBG? If you want a civ that's extremely easy to defend with, I'd recommend Gaul. The civ's pretty overpowered without BBG, and is the definition of "safety." You open the game by rushing for your unique Oppidum district, which is also defensible (like encampments!). Since it's unlocked at Iron Working, there's no choice between "military techs" vs "infrastructure techs" - you get both at the same time! You're never really vulnerable. Furthermore, without BBG, Gaul instantly unlocks apprenticeship the moment they finish their first oppidum, unlocking Men-At-Arms immediately. These units are already impossible for other players to push into in the early game, even before you account for Gaul's insanely strong combat bonuses.
      You can watch my Gaul spotlight to get an idea of what the build order would look like. There are, however, some important differences to keep in mind when following that build order without BBG:
      1. The Divine Spark pantheon doesn't grant great engineer points w/o BBG - don't pick it. God of the Craftsman is generally the safest pick in the base game for Gaul.
      2. You don't need to save up gold to buy tiles without BBG, since Gaul's mines will culture bomb adjacent tiles.
      3. In the base game, Gaul instantly unlocks apprenticeship the moment they complete their first Oppidum, which is a ludicrous amount of tempo (since apprenticeship grants +1 prod on all mines in your empire, and also this tech is where you unlock Man-at-Arms when playing without BBG).
      4. All of the governors are different without BBG - you'll probably want Pingala as your first governor.

    The luck to get a dozen (!) goody huts in the ancient era is absurd. Not that it was necessary, the spawn was already amazing. Hungary has some of the best spawns in the game, since you're biased towards continent splits and rivers, which means high amenities, high housing, good campuses and commercial hubs. Easily one of my all-time favourites.

    Just wondering, how is America for FFA games?

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  3 месяца назад +4

      The different American leaders play extremely differently from each other, so it's hard to answer "how is America?" when the different American leaders are basically different civs. Both versions of Teddy Roosevelt have been tweaked a fair bit in BBG, while Abraham Lincoln is relatively unchanged.
      Abraham Lincoln is a pretty reliable, well-rounded civ with a good mix of sim bonuses and war bonuses.
      Teddy Rough Rider is a very generic war civ with some bonuses to city state control. He's fairly lackluster in free-for-all games, but he's good in 4v4 (where controlling city states for your team is very important and you spend nearly the whole game at war with the other team)
      Teddy Bull Moose is an extremely high-risk high-reward pick in BBG, known for his ability to set extremely good paces towards fast culture victories by spamming preserves whenever he spawns with land that has naturally high appeal. However, you can also end up spawning surrounded by features which reduce appeal, such as rainforest and floodplains, at which point your leader bonuses basically stop functioning until later in the game (BBG mercifully grants Teddy-BM the ability to plant woods at the Medieval Faires civic). Few people actually bother to learn this civ, because even when you do get a good spawn with high appeal, it's still not a free win - You have to actually know Teddy-BM's unique preserve build order & appeal micro-management in order to fully leverage your land. Having a harsh learning curve + a highly volatile & luck-based civ bonus makes Teddy-BM a fairly unpopular civ, even though he's very strong under the right circumstances.

      @@HersonCiv Hmm. I was referring to Teddy specifically, though yeah you're right.
      Admittedly I wonder how it seems like no one plays Teddy, like ever. That explains it. I would love to see someone play Teddy competently in an FFA setting though

    • @HersonCiv

      With BBG, the answer is probably going to be Mapuche's Malon Rider rush. Malon Riders are changed quite a bit in BBG compared to the base game - instead of being unlocked at gunpowder, they replace coursers and are unlocked at castles as a result. They have lower base combat strength to compensate for being unlocked earlier, and gain a free promotion when trained instead of starting with the ability to pillage tiles at only 1 movement point cost.
      Here's the strategy: You use the "maneuver" policy card, which grants 50% extra prod towards ancient/classical era units, and produce a ton of horsemen. Then, once you unlock Malon Riders, you upgrade all of your horsemen into them at a 50% gold discount using the Professional Army policy card. They all get a free promotion, and you choose the left-side promotion (+5 vs anti-cav) on each one. Then, you rush the Terracotta army, granting every single one of them a *second* promotion. For this, you choose the left-side promotion again, which grants the ability to pillage tiles at the cost of only 1 movement point. Then, you simply run over a neighbor's land and pillage every single tile you possibly can - you don't even try to kill them yet, although you do want to make sure you conquer at least one city. It's infuriating just how quickly a Malon rider raid like this can pillage everything, and the pillage yields greatly accelerate the Mapuche player's game. Lastly, as you unlock the military science tech, you retreat all of your Malon Riders into the one city you conquered, and upgrade them one more time into Cavalry. Now you go in and deal the actual finishing blow w/ the cavalry, mercifully finishing off the player you've been tormenting for the past hour.

    why 3-1 insteat of 2-1 on the fisrt city? (resources) is a mod or som?

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  2 месяца назад +1

      The mod "Better Balanced Game", which this is played with, has a feature called "BCY" that can be enabled in the game setup. When turned on, it changes the yield of the city center tile for the capital city (and only the capital city) to always be 3-1 on flat land or 2-2 on hills. It's just designed to make spawns more equal, as otherwise spawning next to a rice/cattle allows for a 3-1 and spawning on a plains hill allows for a 2-2, which isn't fair when most players are stuck with a 2-1 capital tile.

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  3 месяца назад +2

      @@Mr_Vikingr Moving across the river onto the forest hill would require that I settle on turn 2, which is a meaningful amount of lost tempo compared to a turn 1 settle. The first ring of tiles for that settle is also pretty poor, so I'd likely have to spend gold early buying tiles as my cap grows to 2 and 3 pop. Also, that tile only really has three valid tiles across the river from it for Hungary's bonus, since you can't build districts on top of luxury resources.
