It kinda just is what it is. The game's mechanics are just not particularly friendly to early wars. I don't know why people try to force them. Hah! Now you know how I feel when trying deity. I had a Mayan game I gave up on because Egypt decided to attack me four times. Scotland was about to launch a moon landing while I was still 10 turns or so from researching spaceports.
PSA: I just went and tested it in game, and the Vampire kill bonus for units dying near the Vampire does happen if the Vampire makes the kill. Still not worth letting the Vampire do the kill because they get no experience, but worth knowing that it isn't necessary to have another unit do the kill if the kill counter is all you care about. Do note that they can only get up to +10 kill counts off of Barbarian units, though.

Not sure I'm commenting early enough for you to see this feedback, but I have some observations from watching many of your streams: 1) Every time I scrub to the end of a 5-8 hour stream, I start worrying about your mental & physical self-care. Maybe have a cut-off rule like other Civ streamers and compensate with other content / slightly more frequent streams? 2) I know you have been reluctant to get moderators in your streams, but I think chat could use some management. Is there a way to flair or badge certain channel members so that they're more noticeable by people in chat / are semi-deputized to do stuff, but don't get full moderation privileges? Totally up to you whether you feel you want things to go a certain way in chat [if so, it might be good to have rules written down -- that's pretty common practice on Twitch]
Oh cool... though it kind of sounds to me like 70% performative and 30% real. Anyway, something to think about if you want to make it 10 years in this business
"Psychos? Is that what they looked like? Psychos? Let me tell you something. Psychos don't explode when sunlight hits them. I don't give a fuck HOW crazy they are!" Sorry. I see "Aztec vampires" and I can't resist.
If it makes you feel better Potato, I decided to do an Aztec vamp run for fun after having a shite game with Rome as my first try when Sanguine Pact. Rolled Gran Colombia as my neighbor, gave up as war ran on and on and rerolled. Nearest neighbor? Australia. Almost rerolled then beyond all hope he declared war on me. 🤣🤣🤣 Also, if it makes you feel better for real, it was really good content. 🤣🤣🤣
on a relevant note, I seem to be addicted to restarting to get the "good start." I don't think any RNG is intrinsically bad, but map generation seems overly mercurial. I like a fun challenge, but too often it seems like I am confronted with an *unfun* challenge. And it has made starting new games feel like a chore.
Hey Potato your videos helped me a lot to play vs deity I'm currently 60% done in game you trying to play. My advise add more AI. I'm playing standart map size with 11 AIs and my vampire has +15 from luxury resourses and maybe +53 from kills 6 AIs remaining. p.s. if vampire kills unit that counts p.s.s. I permanently adjecent great scientist that heals 20hp.
hey potato, we've all had some like these. i freely admit to doing a fair bit of restarts to get something i'm comfortable with at times. i do have one small comment. i think you are just in too big of a rush to get to an early war. clear barb camps. explore a little. then when you've scouted and assessed your surroundings, fully consolidate ALL of your forces and hit someone. with a concentrated army and fresh forces. one definite example was the one time you came up to korea and you freaked about her science. well, you didn't need the war with her and all those horseman barbarians. you only had like 4 eagle warriors...i mean yeah her science is good. but you need quite a bit of gold and production to get a crossbowman. even if she does...i mean the AI is dumb and will walk it out of a garrison usually eventually. i've done similar things as this, and I think it comes from the desperate need to get value from the eagle warrior from turn 1. you know you need to rush out and snowball to do well these guys. so, there is that. just now watching from the outside i am seeing some things. after playing through quite a through of secret socieity games i can say this. the few games with vampires i've really struggled to get value. with the hermetics i find the alchemical society to be just dandy, but the ley lines can be a major annoyance acting as a strategic resource. how about a ley line on your one desert tile that pops up in front of your nubian capital that you now can't build on? also the spawn of the ley lines are so chaotic you may or may not get that many. they definitely seem to like to spawn in tundra and desert (Peter the great). the ley lines tiles eventually become absolutely ridiculous in yields (like 12 science 10 product 10 culture etc), but if you only have a few then it's more marginal. i continually get STRONG value on the voidsingers with nearly ANY civ i've tried them. they just seem all around strong. build a monument. be awesome. simple. i've done limited games with the owls who just seem good, but the effect of extra cards is difficult to quantify other than when you play greece you full well know the advantage of an extra card early quite clearly. so, this is also a strong one. i think what i like about this latest release though, is Religion. The devs have made your first belief a legitimately difficult decision now. i just think the vampire needs to be a little stronger from what i've seen. i think one more movement or a radius for it to be empowered like a great general or something....or even a passive "dread effect"...idk..just to see the vampire hobble around like a crummy melee unit when it's suppose to be like a military centerpiece seems lame. i've also struggled (this is super annoying) like you with the 70% invitation rate. It is very high and fair. but is it fair? you either get 4 governor promotions really early and start snowballing or you have horrendously bad luck and get behind everyone. the hermetics can be ESPECIALLY annoying. the chance of natural wonders is much less. there are 4 in a 6 player game. you probably have the opportunity to find maybe 2 close. So, then what if you get bad luck?
I saw another streamer doing the samething, does really need to the vampire exclusively be adjacent to a unit that died ? I mean why can't the vampire kill the unit and also gain the bonus attack point, as I see the enemy did died adjacent, and that should trigger his trait, because only after it for defeated (killed) your unit will move to his tiles.
If you want to show off an easy "challenge," play as Eleanor and pick up the Voidsingers. Then, don't take any cities with military units and win a domination victory. It ended up being one of the easiest games I've ever played, but it was pretty entertaining
vampire spawn rate needs a buff or mechanic to spawn after x number of camps cleared. I am trying this style of game and just can not get a vampire proc.
I liked this Streaming Session very much - because you played very good but the game trolled you anyway. It‘s how I experience the game sometimes, too. Thanx for your good work, very entertaining for me, quite annoying for you this time, though.

Don't worry, its performative frustration, I'm fine.
Oh cool... though it kind of sounds to me like 70% performative and 30% real. Anyway, something to think about if you want to make it 10 years in this business
This is the longest JoJo Reference video on youtube
"Psychos? Is that what they looked like? Psychos? Let me tell you something. Psychos don't explode when sunlight hits them. I don't give a fuck HOW crazy they are!"
Sorry. I see "Aztec vampires" and I can't resist.
This stream is the definition of downward spiral.
I mean multi-tile cities were already stolen by the civ devs from the developers of humankind. They were in endless legend, and then boom civ had it.
Also, if it makes you feel better for real, it was really good content. 🤣🤣🤣
Vampires get buff when they do the kill also. I've played a game with RR Teddy it was awesome. Over 100dmg when I hit gunpowder.
on a relevant note, I seem to be addicted to restarting to get the "good start." I don't think any RNG is intrinsically bad, but map generation seems overly mercurial. I like a fun challenge, but too often it seems like I am confronted with an *unfun* challenge. And it has made starting new games feel like a chore.
This is some sad stuff
It looks like it wasn't a good day to be a potato...

Hermetic Order Peter is pretty insane. You can get upto 20+ culture ley lines.
Yeah ley lines are amazing for adjacency.
Was watching Marbozir then I was suddenly brought here automatically lol... Im not complaining its a nice treat... xDD
Civ 6: The Vampire's Curse
This truly was a cursed stream...
The AI city placement is making me cry
I know its way late now haha but you can just set yourself to busy status on steam if you want notifications on at other times
My favorite Civ. Player, Playing my fav Civ with my favorite Secret Society!
hey potato, we've all had some like these. i freely admit to doing a fair bit of restarts to get something i'm comfortable with at times.
i do have one small comment. i think you are just in too big of a rush to get to an early war. clear barb camps. explore a little. then when you've scouted and assessed your surroundings, fully consolidate ALL of your forces and hit someone. with a concentrated army and fresh forces.
one definite example was the one time you came up to korea and you freaked about her science. well, you didn't need the war with her and all those horseman barbarians. you only had like 4 eagle warriors...i mean yeah her science is good. but you need quite a bit of gold and production to get a crossbowman. even if she does...i mean the AI is dumb and will walk it out of a garrison usually eventually.
i've done similar things as this, and I think it comes from the desperate need to get value from the eagle warrior from turn 1. you know you need to rush out and snowball to do well these guys. so, there is that. just now watching from the outside i am seeing some things.
after playing through quite a through of secret socieity games i can say this. the few games with vampires i've really struggled to get value. with the hermetics i find the alchemical society to be just dandy, but the ley lines can be a major annoyance acting as a strategic resource. how about a ley line on your one desert tile that pops up in front of your nubian capital that you now can't build on? also the spawn of the ley lines are so chaotic you may or may not get that many. they definitely seem to like to spawn in tundra and desert (Peter the great). the ley lines tiles eventually become absolutely ridiculous in yields (like 12 science 10 product 10 culture etc), but if you only have a few then it's more marginal. i continually get STRONG value on the voidsingers with nearly ANY civ i've tried them. they just seem all around strong. build a monument. be awesome. simple. i've done limited games with the owls who just seem good, but the effect of extra cards is difficult to quantify other than when you play greece you full well know the advantage of an extra card early quite clearly. so, this is also a strong one. i think what i like about this latest release though, is Religion.
The vampire absolutely gets the attack point if he kills the unit, I think some people are just confused.
BTW Potato the vampire will still receive the bonus to his combat strength if he kills the unit.
Yeah, a lot of people were mentioning this in chat.
If you want to show off an easy "challenge," play as Eleanor and pick up the Voidsingers. Then, don't take any cities with military units and win a domination victory.
It ended up being one of the easiest games I've ever played, but it was pretty entertaining

😂😂😂😂😂
Sometimes the AI just AI-s.
vampire spawn rate needs a buff or mechanic to spawn after x number of camps cleared. I am trying this style of game and just can not get a vampire proc.
Vampires spawn by promoting the Sanguine Pact society. It's pretty balanced imo, judging by how op vampires are.
So much struggle to get a good game going, hope it's going to be better next time!
Hey Potato i was wondering how rare is Paititi in Civ 6?
For what it's worth, it was an enjoyable stream. Enjoyable to watch, at least, if not to play.
Does anyone know how I can play my own created maps? I got the game through the epic games launcher not steam?
Not sure if Potato or Saxy. Enjoyed the first war though
How do you flip the aztec kills into a builder. When I play, this does not always happen.
It's a 90% chance when killing warriors, 40% or something like that when killing archers. Only works with eagle warriors though
I liked this Streaming Session very much - because you played very good but the game trolled you anyway. It‘s how I experience the game sometimes, too. Thanx for your good work, very entertaining for me, quite annoying for you this time, though.
