    One important thing to note when overclocking and tuning Samsung B-die. They are extremely temperature sensitive and tight timings can become less stable when exceeding 40 degrees Celcius. If you are having trouble overclocking your RAM, put a fan directly over your RAM for some active cooling.

    Having 32GB (Dual Rank) does hurt max. frequency but it brings along some nice benefits! Dual Rank RAM configs can reach up to 5-10% better performance at the same settings just by beeing Dual Rank because the IMC can work on one Rank while the other is doing something else. So if you can get similar settings running on Dual Rank its always gonna outperform Single Rank!

    I understand it's a beginner video, but there are many fundamental misconceptions. 3 major ones are that 1) AIDA is chosen as a benchmark for memory performance and also that only latency matters. 2) memory speed and by extension for ryzen fclk are more important than primary timings. 3600 14s is better than 3200 12s. 3) lastly, trrds, trrdl and tfaw give a huge performance boost that is greater than trp, tras being a few ticks lower.

      True and false. While 3600mhz is the sweet spot most Ryzen setups see diminishing returns past 3600 and that’s if your CPU can FCLK past it. Memory latency not CAS latency does matter most, especially in ESports. You can run DDR5 6000mhz cl 30 tuning the timings to 55ns a kit of bdie at 4000 cl 15 at 46ns outperforms the DDR5.

    I got a super nice set of gskill stick a while back so OC them now like I wanted too I got
    3800mhz (stock speed)
    1900flck
    Cl 14-15-15-15-29
    TRC 44
    TRFC1/2/4 240. (220 doesn't post might try 230 later)
    Also from my readings before OC my ram you can't have your TRC lower then what your tRP + tRAS is. Hence me 15+29 = 44. Haveing it lower can introduce instability to your system which is never a good thing.
    Also another pro tip, before starting all this make sure gear down mode is disabled. if not when you boot your system you might set up your settinyg like CL set to 15. Instead of 15 it will up it to 16 to be more stable in some cases.
    Feel like with what I paid for my DIMMs I should of gotten more out of them but my latency dropped almost 20ns so I'll still take the win on this.
    Final ATM 55.4ns. will try to work on it next weekend tho 🤷

    This video has a good motivation behind it. So that's good good old gamer. And it wasn't bad, but it is missing some explanation that is very much needed when memory overclocking.
    Command Rate is one. Many Zen 2 chips fucking CANNOT do below 2T or "gear down mode" 1T at that bandwidth and timings. So then the question is, should I go to super low memory clock speed to get flat, non gear down 1T command rate? I'd say no, but I'm still learning. 2T doesn't effect that Aida64 overall latency or bandwidth for gaming for my Zen 2 chip. It's more a stability thing.
    And explaining the tRFC, yeah pretty good. BUT, I found a formula that really shows how the tRFC1 tRFC2 tRFC4 in all work each other. You change tRFC1, you GOTTA change the remaining tRFCs. So, that's why you put 260 under the big setting tRFC1/2/4. Btw the formula is TRFC2 = trfc1 /(divided by) 1.346. TRFC4 = trfc2 / 1.625. Just do the one Chris did.
    There's a formula for tRC as well to eliminate a lot of repeated tests/time.
    "tRC=tRP+tRAS rounded up to the next even number and tRC=tRP+tRAS+2 are also considered to be fine."
    Found that on Reddit. Just search "TRC ram formula" in Google. Try those, they stable, THEN lower the tRC number by one until it's spitting errors.
    tFAW is another one. tFAW = tRRD_S or _L * (times ) 4. Try each one, whichever one is stable, that's it.
    I've explored this in part because of you Chris and Frame Chasers. I will say, I see why people just defer to XMP who've attempted memory overclocking for recommendations. Forget your 5 hours man, when learning this, give yourself a day to 2 days worth of effort/learning!!!! Fuckin el!!
    Oh, and other non Samsung RAM kits, I'd say you should be good with same voltages. BUT, those RAMs typically don't increase clock speed or lower timings that much, let alone Command Rate working at 1T. You'll lower the timings just a little in comparison. They'll perform better than XMP, but, latency won't be that improved. But hey, if you got non Samsung die and you don't wanna pay more money, that RAM should be fine regardless. 1.5 volts on all RAM is ok. It will just, much more often than not with non Samsung B die, not lower (or loosen, fucking esotericism) timings much more below there XMP values. But it won't melt or start a fire in your system with some normal, healthy airflow.

I currently have a kit of micron e die (Crucial balistix 3200cl16) running at 3800cl16 with all timings trimmed down, aida gives that kit a score of 66ns. My b die kit does 3800 cl14 and i get 63ns with that. After testing both in games there is relatively next to no gain when using the b die kit. I have a 3700x and msi x370gaming pro carbon on latest BIOS. I guess the take away is that if you have a good kit of non b die ram that can do comparable timings to b die its not worth the upgrade. @t7274 2 года назад

      Depends what game youre playing and what settings youre playing at. If your GPU usage was already at 95% with the original ram then you won't see much more scaling. Try testing on lower video settings so you're more cpu bound. Also, bdie will scale a lot more with Intel or Ryzen 5000. 3000 just has a lot more latency.

    • @TechRIP
      @TechRIP 2 года назад +2

      His video's are comparing tuned memory to stock memory and tuned cpu's to stock cpu's. Almost every memory out there can be tuned. So, the difference in performance will be less when comparing tuned to tuned. There are even sites out there that show you what to put for every single parameter based on what ram you have and it works for Zen 2. B-die is not worth it unless you NEED ram. And spending the time to OC is only worth it for one scenario. You can't play the game you want and have zero money to upgrade. It's not to go from 100fps to 110fps. You can't tell the difference.

    I think that OCCT for memory overclocking might be okayish for a beginner just trying to tighten timings a bit compared to Auto or XMP. For primary timings with the exception of tRP then OCCT should be fine, but for secondary and tertiary I wouldn't recommend it at all. OCCT lets me get away with tRP, tWR, tWCL that should give error out. I much more prefer to use HCI MemTestPro and make sure 'low priority threads' is unlocked, it takes a long time though... I've had certain timings that were only picked up after 7 hours, but generally %1000+ coverage is quite good. Most errors will usually get picked up by %600.

  • @techluvin7691
    @techluvin7691 2 года назад

    Pretty simplified and no doubt those timings will work on some high end silicon………..but highly doubtful they will work on even 50% of your average everyday “B” die. Memory overclocking is an extremely long and tedious process if your goal is 24/7 stability. You make it sound a little too easy…………and it just isn’t. The testing is spot on, but the “maybe final” overclock requires considerably more strenuous testing then 5, 10, or even an hour. Memory overclocking is a battle and considerably more difficult the overclocking a CPU. You should have also mentioned to save settings after each successful change as there’s nothing more painstaking then starting from scratch after spending a few hours tweaking memory timings. The secondary and tertiary timings also play an important role in achieving maximum ram performance. I’m not trying to be a “thorn” here. I’m only saying that your setting false expectations for most who will just fail miserably even attempting CL14. In taking a peak at your secondaries, they were just horrible…………..so alot of trade-offs to achieve very good latency.

      @@kingyogesh441 a rule of thumb for ddr4 is that any ram stick with 8gb or less capacity is single ranked, 16gb ddr4 per stick are mostly dual ranked, although not guaranteed. More reliable method is to open Cpu-z program and look in "SPD" tab. There, under "Ranks" you will see your answer. Also keep in mind your cpu enables memory interleaving (dual ranked mode) only when you have 4 sticks of single ranked memory or 2 sticks of dual ranked memory. 4 sticks of dual ranked memory enables quad rank configuration but its only marginally better than dual ranked mode.
