      I was thinking a long gold framed arch mirror

  • @autumnkinz
    @autumnkinz 3 года назад +33

    I love the gold bars! There might be alternative materials, though, that wouldn't be as fancy. Also, using a piece of quarter round at the base of the stairs over the end of the carpet would give a finished look. It could be stained the same color as the stairs. Oh, and I would think about buying a few extra carpets to keep. If Flo scratches anything up, you'd have the carpet to patch with.

    Brass rods where carpet matches finishes the look of runner. Under step just where it meets new step.
    Use the rod, thank me later. Inevitably carpet pulling up happens from wear n tear.hugs from central Ontario Canada 🇨🇦

  • @emmahaydon5564

    Woweeee! It looks sooo good. What a difference! Honestly, the fact you persevered so much just adds to how fantastic the outcome is. As someone who has owned an oldish house for coming up to 3 years, being able to keep going with DIY is half the battle and you've done amazingly well. Also - in our house we like to say there are no right angles - older houses are usually a bit wonky which makes doing precise things even more challenging, so when you're focusing on small details not being 100%, honestly, no one else will notice and it's often as good as you can get with houses lacking in parallel lines!

    With regards to Flo's scratching.. It might help to give her something else (better) to scratch right there at the top of the stairs. There are these really cute scratchposts in the shape of a cactus. I'm sure you can find something in your style!

  • @jolowery2881
    @jolowery2881 3 года назад

    Stairs are totally fabulous! I’d add the bars only if they give a good amount of structural support (I’ve no idea if they are useful or just cosmetic!!) They don’t need them for looks, but saving future troubles with wear and tear issues may be very valuable : )

  • @bayboo2237

    I feel like if you added a bar it would look nice. But like a super subtle bar! Like maybe just a plain gold with no embellishments. So you can see it but it’s not taking all your focus off the carpet. The stairs look STUNNING though so it doesn’t really need bars if you don’t want to have another bill.

  • @rachgeorgia9993
    @rachgeorgia9993 3 года назад

    Lucy, you are amazing!!!! The stairs look beautiful and the colour of the stain goes so well with the colours in the carpet. I would vote No for the bars, the carpet is the feature.

  • @camillasoderbaum3871
    @camillasoderbaum3871 3 года назад

    I absolutely love it. Looks great! Regarding the bars, what I know (also not an expert) is that the bars are used to fasten a runner that is not attached to the stairs so that you are able to change it or give it a proper wash. They look pretty but I would say not necessary

  • @lucymain21
    @lucymain21 3 года назад

    The stairs look AMAZING!! 😍 I don't think aesthetically speaking they 'need' those metal bars, but if you think it would help keep the carpet stuck down for longer, then I think they would look nice ☺️

  • @lucysargent2550

    The stairs look amazing!!! Defo don't need the carpet rods across the back I think it would be too busy for such a small space. Love the idea of a midcentury pendant to fill the void though! And the fringe looks so good!!

    In regards to the golden thingy, you may want to consider how much space it takes from the step. It looks like it may not make a difference but those 2-3cm could be what makes and uncomfortable walking. I think what you done is absolutely perfect!

    Wow, it looks FANTASTIC! Fair play to you, you've done it so well ♥ I honestly can't see the wonkiness on the landing and the snag isn't that visible (only when you know really).
    The colours work so well together and I'm glad you will varnish the banister to match the stairs tint. Also in favour of the golden or brass bars on the stairs for added luxury if you can spare the expense, and definitely for the chandelier/light feature, it's going to look even more amazing! X

    Definately worth a thumbs up, well done you. I think metal stays would look really nice and match the metal buts holding the bannister , but also looks fine as it is. If you dont want to replace that bit of carpet you'll need to glue the stray bits so they dont continue to fray i think. But well done again its looks brilliant ! 👍😊

    It looks SO GOOD! I was thinking about the bars as you were asking about them. I’d do them. If it was plain wall-to-wall carpet on the stairs, I wouldn’t. But a pretty runner needs pretty hardware. And a piece of 1/4 round trim at the base to finish where the carpet meets the tile. You inspired me to redo my stairs. I feel your pain & exhaustion, and your elation at getting the job finished and not mucking up the house.

    Stairs look amazing, well done you! 👏🏻👏🏻 On the subject of stair rods, I work in a historic house in collections conservation and have to clean a lot of stairs with rods. They look lovely, but have their down sides too. They can make an annoying tinging sound as you climb the stairs, they move and slide out of place and also trap dirt behind them, which requires more time removing and cleaning. So personally I wouldn't put them on. I also think the carpet looks so lovely without that you don't necessarily need them. Hope that helps ☺️

    As for the stair rods it's an extra support for the carpet .. because even with staples you get movement, so f you can budget for it I would, but may not gold.
    I do remember a lot of people with huge space over the stairs blocking some of that of to save on fuel bills . That would be a great DIY job .
    Have a rest they get cracking it's addictive.

I admire that you try to do so much of your own work, You know in your mind what you want and you go for it. Good on you girl. Brilliant job on the staircase,. Oh gawd I have just got rid of my brass bars, as changed carpet again. What a blooming shame. To be honest, I did not think they added that much. They are more a fashion thing that was the only reason I had them. I think your pattern is quite busy and speaks nicely for itself. PS I love the fringe. xx
