I actually got a mid level IT production support job at a large software company with this as my only education background. However, it was definitely not an emphasis at all in my resume and I didn't mention it at all in the interviews. I'm coming from 7 years of sales and warehouse operations experience. Willingness to learn and proven experience to be dependable is ultimately what matters.

Will I get a job OR small work just to engage myself in? I already know some of the CS languages such as Python and C language also very good in pc technicalities and problems. Plz reply

    • @KenSherman
      @KenSherman 2 года назад

@@amsk10 it wouldn't hurt. Since you already have learned multiple languages (both lingual and programming), I assume a number of the modules within the course program should come fairly quickly for you (especially if you are in college/university now). If that's true then financially it shouldn't be much of a problem. The cert has many of the digital skills you need for in-demand jobs anyway. For a long-term investment, I think it is very valuable. And for short-term, the results may vary, just as much as people's lifestyles varies.
But I think ULTIMATELY THAT DEPENDS...ON YOUR GOALS‼️ Find out what exactly you want to do within IT first then weigh the benefits. Never limit yourself to only one resource. Personally, I think this very cert is a road map on deciding what you want to do within IT which is another added benefit of this certification - allowing you to choose your flavor(s) while you train. You can go on the Grow with Google site and make that decision for yourself. But it does help you towards completing your degree if that's also what you're pursuing.
As far as getting a job, once you complete the program you will be tapped into Google's growing network of reputable employers that have partnered with or supported this certification program.
PLEASE NOTE: as far as getting a job, in this day and age of hiring potentially qualified candidates, employers are becoming increasingly more focused on soft skills, than tech skills. So I would place just as much emphasis (or rather more) on soft skills than your hard tech skills; healthy balance between the 2 is also preferred. The tech skills and experience will come overtime though so I wouldn't stress much or get overwhelmed over that.

I'm taking it now, I knew absolutely nothing about IT, but wanted a career change. I was intimidated, especially when I saw the price for the CompTIA+ cert! I kept thinking about how miserable I would feel if I failed that test. So, I'm trying this. I applied for financial aid, and got it! Training wheels provided by Google! I like the course, it's presented in a way that allows you to digest the information easily. It's even fun and I'm now much more curious about what else is out there and how I can practice what I am learning. I feel like after I complete this cert and have that little win under my belt, I'll be ready to really test myself and invest in a Comp TIA+ cert. I watched your video on how to start in IT (it was so heartfelt). Thank you for being so encouraging to us older newbies. You just got a new subscriber!

Landed a desktop support position with this on my Resume as well as customer service experience. They saw I was in school, pursuing certs, etc. No IT experience or certs currently besides this one. Don't underestimate putting customer service experience on a Resume. I worked for months to fine tune my Resume to make my drive and passion stand out.
Keep in mind if you're going into Cyber and looking for a foot in the door, yes, help desk/desktop support is a good way to start. Especially working with information security in a Hospital, like I am. Most hospitals have a help desk team, a Networking team, sometimes an applications team, and a Cyber team. Google actually provides a dual certification badge for your LinkedIn profile and a 20% off coupon for your CompTIA A+ exams when you complete the IT Support Certification. In Arizona, after many conversations with a lot of the IT professionals here, even if the Indeed or job application does not list it in their requirements, many here will gladly accept the google IT basic and advanced certs combined with A+ for high paying jobs. Don't always just look at the job listing and assume, but apply and reach out and talk to the employer instead of waiting for the employer to reach out to you? Old school tactics still work best. Also getting to know, talk to, and network with professionals in the field helps greatly.

I think it is worth noting that a lot of us may understand that as a certification on its own it will probably not get us into a role as easily as ComptiA+ would. However, I remember trying to start with Professor Messer's videos and feeling a little overwhelmed but how fast he was just going through it. The google program seems more like a great beginner tool to give us the basics and fundamentals to then work towards an industry standard certification like ComptiA. I simply see it as a good stepping stone. I think for that purpose this program is awesome. Personally, I felt I learned more for this cert than the A+ (as the Google cert had hands on linux and windows labs). I felt A+ was just a grind learning legacy gear. Of all the certs I hold... I feel Net+ (Supplemented with GOOGLE IT labs and Net Academy/ packet tracer labs) helped me the most. Not so much in terms of getting a job, but in things I actually work with on a daily basis. The thing is that it’s not a certification… it’s education. For example, if someone in the accounting profession takes a course and receives a “certificate in public accounting” upon completion… it doesn’t make them a “certified public accountant”… for Google it’s a certificate at the end of an educational program, not a certification.
It’s also good preparation for the A+ which is why there’s a special badge for this where if you complete the course and you get A+ certified you get a fusion badge.

The problem I have with the Pricing Section of this video is. Yeah a Google Certificate costs you $300 over 6 months. But, for the A+, most people aren't going to be able to just pick up a book and teach themselves. You'll have to pay for a course that can cost you $5000-$12,000 for the same time frame. And if your school doesn't pay for the privilege to take the exam, you have to pay $300 for a voucher.
I have 6 close friends who have gotten mid-level jobs at places with at least 300 employees, and 2 friends that work in IT for Amazon just with the Google IT Cert. I will say I live in Baltimore, and we're in a tech boom, and we're about an hour away from DC. So that could be why. But this shows there are opportunities out there. I do agree the A+ is valuable (much more valuable than the Google IT), but the Google Cert is much more affordable and if someone lives in a large tech market, there are jobs out there for people with this cert.

When I saw this video, the first thing that came to my mind was you HAD to have seen my TLDR I left in that video. 😅
You made fair & valid points, however, I still think it's a relatively new certification to base it off of facts right now. To be completely fair, the industry hasn't caught up yet to what benefits it can bring. Personally, if I saw someone with the certification, I'll definitely consider this is as a major plus, in particular, for an IT support role or for the more intermediate level one.
As you stated, it's very similar to A+. Plus, it has the mark of a well-known respected brand called Google. Who is also 1 of the three major players in the cloud, btw. It may not be the best investment for a beginner, financially speaking, but that depends. Mainly, if you are a quick learner.
I think your average learner today can learn it in less than 6 months, possibly 2 months, going at a consistent but respectable pace typically speaking. Which means completing it in less than a month is achievable. So what's $40, $80 or even $120 out of your pocket for training that most other certifications don't give? You basically have at least 3 certifications in 1 #GoogleITcertificate. And I am being conservative (TECHnically it's at least 5).
Note: when you think about it. That's also motivation to get it done quicker than normal😉 BUT at a STILL respectable price.
Now as an added benefit, once you complete the certification program, you tap into #Google's network of employers.🤑 However, although those are reputable companies, that list is still growing. I'm not sure what's going on with #GrowWithGoogle's (pun intended) marketing team on pushing the #GoogleITSupport certification (program) into relevance, but what I DO know is that this certification has a lot of promise. I'll wait 4-5 more years to see the industry's response.
Furthermore, personally, I think this certification is like a road map into venturing into IT to decide which flavor of #IT you want to pursue If you haven't already decided.
I think Google has done a great job on doing something in the market that needed to be done that most haven't and should have done. It was (and is) only a matter of time. I actually would encourage people to grab this certification, especially since the military took interest in it as well. Because sooner or later if it's not something that can boost your career via skill sets, I think it will really be something to boost your career financially among other things. I believe the return of investment will show itself in the long run not short-term. And as you stated in one of your videos, it should never hurt to gain more knowledge into your field.💯
Therefore, I think it's a wise investment to achieve this certification, especially at this stage while it's in its infancy; it would already be doing it's job and it COMPLIMENTS MULTIPLE #CERTIFICATIONS WELL. Not only will you be able to hone the right #digitalskills for in demand jobs or careers, but this certification supports you on helping you complete a (community) college and/or university degree ‼️ So yeah, it's not industry relevant now (perhaps not exactly a fault of Google) but that doesn't mean it lacks in the current industry certifications standards either. Dare we forget when the Cloud was coming into prominence and the industry didn't accept it because it was new technology & they didn't understand it? Look at what where we are today. The Cloud☁️🗄️ in it's current form has become a major part of our lives now. Who knew 🤷🏽‍♂️? When you think about it, it really hasn't been that long ago or at least it doesn't feel that way. That's similar to what's going on now with the industry versus Google IT certification's acceptance.
I think we should all be confident and aware by now that when it comes to #InformationTechnology, Google knows what it's talking about. If I was on Google's sales and marketing team, they would have my full #ITSupport, (also pun intended😜), and I will be honored to help raise awareness of this valuable certification that is needed right now where employers are in dire need for skilled technologists.
And there is my 2nd updated TLDR on the #GoogleITSupportProfessionalCertificate.😜

I just finished it and I’m applying for jobs. I have yet to see it on indeed anywhere. I think it will help you get a job but not as much as the A+ but will take you less time and trims a lot of the fat of the A+ I studied for the A+ prior to this and it was more of memorizing stuff you really need to learn through doing. The google it is more practical knowledge and you have to do labs to practice skills and written explainations of concepts. If you plan on going right into another cert I’d say do google it but it’s undeniable A+ is more information and is more attractive on a resume.

  • @corzzthecasual

Google's Cert is nowhere near 6 months. Each of their "week long" subjects takes about an hour. There's 6 weeks per course and 5 courses. That's where they get the 6 months from.
When realistically, it's about 30 hours. So however fast you can do 30 hours.
If you can knock it out, you can finish the whole thing in that 7 free days.
Don't let the "6 months" scare you. Click on the coursework and see how long each course expects you to take. Their assumptions is you'll only dedicate 10 hours a week.

I can tell you right now if you want to actually understand the information and not just pass it like a test in school where you learn every for an hour in short term memory to pass a test. If you actually want to understand IT and learn and comprehend and retain it then it will take you at least 2 months. I quit my job and wanted to get a refresh of IT. I’m on the last course and I’m 3 days it’ll be 2 months. I’ve retained everything and also have 200 pages of notes for a reference ( because it helps me remember to write it down ) . There’s no point of rushing this course in 7 days, you won’t retain zip. Instead just focus on learning and get inspired by what they are teaching you. If you want a fast cert to get into a job quicker then get the A+ if not the googles it course will help you a TON.

Also side note, i spent about 30hours a week and I’ll be finishing the whole thing in a little over 2 months. WITH actually learning the information. Understanding terms and how they work compared to remembering terms is completely different. 7 days for all it offers is insane and pathetic in my opinion, i wish i honestly had more time but 2 months is a sweet spot i think. To actually learn.

I’m taking this now before I start an A+ course in a few weeks. I have no formal training in anything tech, just grew up modifying games and creating new maps (and have a BA in another field). It’s a very professionally made program, but having only completed the first of five courses within the certification, more than anything I’m thinking it can only serve as a baseline for how competent you’ll be with more education and how much you might enjoy working with computers.
I really enjoy the broad overview they give on different areas in IT, and if you audit the course, I think getting your toes wet this way is a great deal to determine what your strengths and interests are.

    • @agnomymous

I just passed the first of two A+ courses provided by my community college. The start I got from the Google cert definitely helped- I only completed the first module because I had to put “real” school first, but with a month before the second half of A+, I’m going to try and wrap that up.
I’ve completed 50% of an A+ program and 20% of Google’s, so take this with a grain of salt, but…
Google is far superior in terms of translating possibly confusing concepts as compared to Testout (the program my college uses for A+ prep). They make it very easy to remember what will become fundamental concepts, and I appreciate the opportunity to hear the stories of the teachers, where they started in the field and what they’re doing how.
That said, A+ is more complex in terms of knowledge. Google provided ease of learning concepts, but the A+ study demanded I be able to recognize various connectors based on appearance and describe their functionality. It provided me with real-world troubleshooting skills which I can apply in real life. In terms of technical knowledge, it seems far superior to Google’s offering. That said, I’m still going for both. I think the remaining 80% I have to finish in Google’s prof will prove beneficial to me as I prepare for the second half of A+

I don’t have any certifications yet, and despite the A+ courses I’ve taken and how worthwhile I think even the Google certificate is, I probably won’t be pursuing either of them. Once you have your first IT job, as long as you have the skills to back it up, I think you’re beyond the point where you need to redundantly prove yourself with a first-level certificate.
I see myself getting into system administration, so I’m looking into certificates such as the Apple Certified Support Professional, the Windows Desktop Support Administrator, and would like to pursue Red Hat some day.

The Google IT Certification goes over modern tech, and what's necessary to succeed today as well as going really in depth on customer service which should be great for someone whos never working in customer service before.
Neither is needed for a job I have studied, gained certs, and have almost 3 years of experience and I am still struggling to find a job. I just hate to self read and study. CompTIA A+ doesn’t have an online course for PA residents yet. I could go through the Google program first and then maybe pursue the CompTIA A+ certification. Is this a better idea for me or no?

You will also have to remember that it's 4k jobs spread across the united states which isn't much either. You have to go beyond the A+

If I have a google It certificate and a associates degree will that be enough to get a desktop support or a helpdesk job or will I need to get a+ as well? Once I graduate college I would rather go straight to looking for jobs and not spend more time in school since I have been in school on and off for at least ten years.

Accenture and Infosys will hire you with those credentials, but you have to catch their hiring seasons. Usually in January and February.

I majored in nutrition and got hired with no certificate. Majority of companies really just care that you can learn and that you know what you’re doing. Tier 1 support jobs usually hire if you’re the right fit although I just speak for tech companies myself.

Most IT support jobs that I've seen on indeed won't even ask for a certification. I live in texas and I can't even think of one support job that had comptia, ibm, or even googles certifications under qualifications. I say, TAKE THE DAMB CERT. This is literally a certification for beginners, any knowledge is good knowledge. Nobody is just gonna stop learning after this cert. It's just a start.

Completing the Google certification gives you knowledge about the comptia a+ exam right? Is it viable to go thru the Google course and then take the comptia exam and get the certification that way? And also add in the professor messor videos as well?

I have this. Would I do again if I was employed? No. If I was not employed? Yes. I was out of work ,a few years ago and had no certs. I saw this has an opportunity to get something quick and free. I completed this for FREE. Yes, I did it in the 7 day trial. I worked on this no joke from when I got up to when I went to sleep. Had it printed on some nice paper and brought it with me in interviews. They do say they will have some job opportunities contact you and that is true. It took a awhile for that to happen. I have 22 years as a professional.
I had a recruiter contact me and offered me the job last week. With one stipulation. That I get A+ in 30 days. After I thought about. I saw more cons in this job then pros. Now I am thinking as being employed, should I get A+ still? I think so. It is what I do. Was a complete snore fest when I tried it and that was like 3 times.
