- Today I will share my experience after completing the Google Digital Marketing & E-commerce Professional Certificate on Coursera. I decided to take the certificate in the latter part of 2022 after deciding to pursue a new career in the field of Digital Marketing. So if you have the same goal in mind this may be a worthwhile watch to see if I was able to secure a job after finishing the certificate.
This is my honest feedback on the course. I don’t have any relationship with Google or Coursera.
Please like the video and subscribe if you enjoyed! Thanks, Jonny. 😊

Thanks for the info on the course, I'm about to enroll right now and was doing some last minute "should I actually do this?" motivation. You gave me just that.
Good luck with it man! 👍
Thanks for the insights Johnny, I'm planning yo take the course and your video was very valuable to me
I'm glad it was helpful. Good luck with it! :)
I appreciate the detail here, especially where you said you can audit the course and learn it for free, even without the cert. Although I think the cert is the reason why people would want to get this, great info either way.
Another thing I liked is that this course as you said is a good foundational course for digital marketing, rather than focusing on one area. It will be up to the learner what specific path they'd like to specialize on, whether it's paid ads, SEO, email, etc.
Good stuff Jonny.
Thank you for this information!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this information!!!
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching.
Hi there, I am completely in between this course and I am having fun. Also I am glad to know that you had your own blog as I want to do the same!
Did the certificate help you with internship or job?
how you doin now mate? Im doing the course right now
Very helpful, thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful. :)
Well explained !
Cheers. 😊
thanks a lot for sharing. I have been going through a lot of videos, many of them were using affiliate links. I dont have any problem with that but wanted a more reliable review from someone who actually did the course.
Amazing Arun. Glad you found what you were looking for.
thanks for the honest review
No worries, glad you enjoyed!
Great Im going to take this course thank you Johnny
Any update?
Thank you fo the video! Maybe you won't mind to talk more about how exactly this course helped you to find a new job? Maybe give some tips to people who just want to switch their careers to digital marketing as well. Thank you once again!
Thanks for your comment. I'll keep it in mind for future videos. 👍
Thanks for the info. I've been thinking about giving this a try for a while now. Do any of the activities in the course include projects that can directly be put into a portfolio to demonstrate some the skills involved?
2-7 have projects. 1 not so much but 2 every other week has one 3 has one over a coffee company.
Hi. Yes there are quite a few activities that can be put into a portfolio. In the last module you even get the change to start putting a portfolio together.
good review my guy. im on my 2nd now and is flowing like a river!
That's awesome! Keep it up!
How is it come dude, have you found a job in that field
@@mustafahelmy5270 I think he died.

Hi Jonny, I'm taking this course now. I'm on #4. I like it, it is easy to move through. I started about 5 weeks and 2 days ago. I would be further ahead, but our power was out for several days due to an ice storm. Glad to know you were able to get a job so quickly. What course were you on when you got hired?
Wow. That's pretty good going in 5 weeks. I think I was on the 6th course so near to finishing it. Good luck with the rest of the course!
@@jonnymarcbaker Thanks
How did it go?
@@Peter-wl3tm I completed it back in April. It was easy to complete. Thanks for checking in. I moved on to complete training in HTML/CSS coding. Now moving on to tackle JavaScript. I'm using Free Code Camp. It's free, but it's a lot of work. It's certainly not for the faint at heart. However, they provide excellent instructions, and you can do it online, it's project-based, so you would be reading the instructions, completing the challenge, and testing in one setting.
I decided to take these courses because when I started reviewing some job descriptions for UI/UX, and other web based positions, the requirements are a lot, not just the skills acquired from one certificate course. So I'm just adding these skills to my portfolio. I really haven't pursued anything in digital marketing yet. How have you been doing? Anything new in your career?
Hey, how's it going for you now? Did you get a job?
I think the course is good to introduce you to different types of digital marketing and you can choose a niche from there. It’s more of general overview than specialised training.
100% agree with you. It's a great place to start and gives a really solid base to get started in Digital Marketing. Once you have that base it gives you the opportunity to up-skill and specialise in a certain area if you want to.
hi , is this certificate valuable as the college degree certificates
I have seen many vedioes, your vedioes seems short and crisp. can u make a vedio how to write a blog and tools we can use for free, thank you
What if I don't want to create a Shopify store and I just want to be a freelancer? Will they allow me to continue without making one?
I am completely new to digital marketing.I am a 19 yr old collage student who wants to make money as a side hustle and eventually scale it.What should be the practical steps I take during this course that will get me a job so that I can gain some real work experience??
I'm in the middle of this one at the moment. I'm trying to get out of the food service/face to face customer service industry. I've been a supervisor for the last roughly 4 years of my life and it's destroying my mental health. I'm using this to start a clothing business and other business, how would I go about getting a job when I'm done with the course?
That's amazing. Good luck with the course. I hope it's going well for you. My advise is try to get any experience you can, it will help so much when you're looking for a job.
Thanks for the info, did they showed you required software/tools after the program?
No worries, they show you all the tools and software they recommend during the course.
pls bro. can you talk about the exam how they organised ?
Can we talk about freelance jobs after the course? What are freelancing sites?
Hello! A question, does this certification have an expiration date? That is, is it valid for a certain number of years? Or it doesn't expire once you get it, thank you very much in advance
The certificate will be valid forever insha Allah.
Are the exams multiple choices?
How would you add that you are currently taking the course on your cv or LinkedIn profile ?
Hi Inge, when I added it to my CV I added an extra section to my education titled Certificates currently completing. I also added a percentage progress bar that showed how far through the course I was. Perhaps you could do something similar on LinkedIn as well or add it to your about section. 🙂
can u guide how to write a blog
What should we pursue after the Google cert if we're serious about finding a job in the field?
Honestly trying to get any experience you can is going to help so much with landing a job. So I'd offer your new digital marketing skills and knowledge to local businesses to give you the experience hiring managers are looking for.
Job prepped offer an internship and projects to help you get a job in digital marketing.
Hi Johnny, Great video. Would you like to get your story and experience featured on a hybrid and remote platform? It can motivate others and give you more visibility. Please let me know if this sounds well with you?
Do they teach practically? Like teaching the tools and how to use them or only verbally?
Hi, there are some practical elements taught. The course is split up between video content, readings and activities. The videos and readings will teach you the concepts and how to use the tools, and the activities are where you can put what you learnt into practice.
Im about to be on the 4th course and using the projects does that help any. My life changed a bit doing it so it's become harder to get work but I'm looking regardless.
Congrats. I hope you're enjoying the course.
So far it's been recapping college for me. Hopefully email and Shopify are new. But yea I'm having fun.
Do you need to do it on a laptop or can you complete it on a smart phone?
From memory, you can complete the majority of it on your phone. Coursera does have an app you can download. However, I remember when I completed some of the course on my iPad using the app I couldn't do some of the activities. Perhaps you could do those using the browser on your phone.
To further our learning beyond this beginner course, could you kindly recommend a course for that?
I can't recommend any other courses as such as I haven't completed any others. Most of the knowledge I've learned since this course has come from experience in the industry and reading various books.
But if you're looking for other courses to complete to extend your knowledge I'd suggest trying to figure out which area of digital marketing appeals most to you. If you've completed the course I'm sure you will have a hunch. It might be social media, paid ads, seo, content marketing, or maybe even marketing psychology, etc. Then find a course that specialises in that area.
Other books I'd suggest reading to build up your knowledge are:
- Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini
- This is Marketing: You Can't Be Seen Until You Learn To See by Seth Godin
- Contagious: Why Things Catch On by Jonah Berger
what is better option for ecommerce course/certifciate?
I'm not 100% sure about the best E-commerce certificate as I haven't completed any myself. However, if I was going to try and learn E-commerce I think one of the best ways would be to start your own store using something like Shopify and learn through experience. You could find affordable courses through online sites like Udemy, Skillshare and there's plenty of free information on RUclips. Some of my favourite E-commerce experts on RUclips are THE ECOM KING and Davie Fogarty.
@@jonnymarcbaker thanks so much!
Jonny, do you have a bachelors or what is your education background? What if I have no degree but some IT experience?
Hi Ed, I have a Bachelors degree in Photography, so it's not 100% relevant to digital marketing. I truely believe that you don't need a degree to get started in this industry! If you've got some knowledge of IT then that puts you ahead of others in my opinion in that industry. If you can find a marketing job at a company connected to the IT industry your previous experience is sure to stand out. If you're serious about Digital Marketing as a career try get any experience you can even if it's for free at the start. Cheers, Jonny.
@@jonnymarcbaker Hi , thank you for your video. It gave me courage to make my last decision i will enroll before new year. In your video you've mentioned to get any experience. What jobs are available ? or what are the options to get the experience needed. Happy new year by the way.
thinking about what to get between digital marketing or IT support
I've not done the IT support certification so I can't comment on that one. I know I got a lot of value out of the Digital Marketing certificate so I'm sure the IT Support is packed full of value too. If I were you I'd think about which industry interests you more and choose to take that one. Both industries have a good earning potential so for me the most important thing would be which career would I enjoy the most.
I have a certificate of google on data analytics.. Will it help me to grab a job
Amazing. How was the Data Analytics course? I guess it depends what job you are looking for. If you want a job in Digital Marketing this course will definitely increase your chances, especially if you've already completed the Data Analytics course too!
would you recommend taking two of google's professional certificate cources at the same time or just take one of them and stick with it?
I guess it depends on your situation and if you have the time. You'll probably need a minimum of 20 hours each week to put into both courses. If you do have the spare time it could be possible to do two at the same time.
From my point of view though, I would take one course at a time. There's lots of information to take in and if you're doubling that with another course it could make it harder to retain what you're learning.
But saying that the Google courses are self-paced, so you could always try both of them, and if it isn't working out you could focus on one and come back to the other later. Hope that helps.
Couple of days ago completed Google garage course called fundamental of digital marketing in certificate.
26 module .
Amazing. I took that course too before I went ahead and did the certificate on Coursera.
@@jonnymarcbaker that is great but i couldn't afford coursera
I also finished the Google Garage Fundamentals of digital marketing course, I should say I enjoyed it so much sad it I finished 😂 I’m going into the Professional course now. Hoping to get financial aid😊
So you have to open your own online store?
Definitely not. If you're looking for a job in Digital Marketing having your own online store is definitely not necessary. What are your goals?
How long does the certificate take to complete
Coursera states it takes 6 months to complete if you put in 10 hours of work per week. Realistically you could complete this certificate in 3-4 months with consistent work.
How can i get certificate without paying subscription? Possible?
It’s possible to apply for financial aid but there’s no guarantee of funding. I talk about this in the video.
And I won’t to have the certificate
Jonny, were you a photographer before doing digital marketing?
Hi Chauntelle, yes I did work as a photographer for roughly 5 years.
was this course enough to land a job?
For me it was enough to land a job in digital marketing. However I did also have some previous experience in the industry the company I joined was in, although the experience I had wasn’t anything in Digital Marketing.
hey man I am doing podcast "Finding Way" would love to have you as guest
Hi how is it compared to udemy.
I've not completed a Digital Marketing course using Udemy however I have taken a copywriting course on Udemy. Comparing those two courses the Coursera Google course was much more professional. All the resources, videos, readings and activities were of a much higher quality on Coursera and I also found it much easier to learn and follow than the Udemy course I took.
@@jonnymarcbaker what about your copywriter journey..? I was thinking to try this job...!
You can combine the Udemy digital marketing Bootcamp course with this course.
Can you please help me
Hey Jonny. Is your job remote?
Hi Leroy, the job I have is not remote. I've tried remote work in the past and it really wasn't for me, I love being around other people!
Finished today and searching for job
Amazing! Good luck with your search!
Hey bro! Did you get a job and did this certification help??
Can I Edit Your RUclips Videos?
No
No, get outta here.
Keep trying, Find a better approach than this. You will succeed bro.
Nope
Do you have a portfolio?
Please how can I get for free
You can audit the course for free which will give you access to all the information, but if you want the certificate you will have to pay. I do talk about how you can apply for financial aid in the video too, so that might be worth trying if you did want the certificate.
I'm currently taking the exact same certificate right now. The problem I have with this at this point is that my grammar skills are Upper Middle School level. Will that stop me from being able to get work as a digital marketing assistant or as an assistant in SEO marketing and SEM marketing as well as social media specialist and email marketing?
I'm really concerned about this because at one point I wrote a company called van write emails with trying to get things clarified in to better understand what was explaining to me and the person who I was in touch with was so brutal he basically slammed the door Harding my face with his words on his email. I need to know if my English and grandma has to be above 80% 6th grade 50% 7th grade and 25% eighth grade? I really need to know because if that is the case it's going to take me a long time to get that caught up and I will probably have to resort to learning something else. But I'm really worried about this because I have a whole bunch of marketing programs especially on copywriting and I really want to get that going very bad as a freelancer.
Hay can you tell how google provides us with a degree after completing the course. @jonnymarcbaker
