Pencils mark down graphite, which is a resistor, this pen marks down a silver-based ink,which (surprise surprise) is a conductor. Which means that the pen does the job much better than a pencil would. I hope that I've cleared this up.

because the silver in this pen makes it conductive. graphite is simply weak carbon bonds and carbon can't conduct electricity by itself in that form
