Guys, so many comments about Millie eating James’ food & James eating so much of Millie’s etc. we didn’t have our ‘own’ plate. We shared both. At every meal place we’ve been, none have been ‘set’ to a certain person. We bought 2 meals to share so we could both try new foods. Once we stopped recording, we had spare plates and shared out the rest of both main plates between us two and James’ mum. Same as for the ketchup, salt etc, we added that all on when we had our individual plates. Millie adds ketchup to EVERYTHING. 🤩🤪
That is a really smart decision because the portions are large and you want to experience as much as possible. Good job!
You'll generally get I.D.'d for alcohol regardless if you're old enough...I still get the i.d. check and I'm 47.
You guys are so cute! 🥰 Happy Mother's Day Millie! Don't worry about the comments. My boyfriend and I share food all the time. No one has their own plate lol. But if it's really good then he can have one small bite. 😂
I live in San Antonio. Make sure you get more Mexican food. Tex-Mex. There is a Nitrogen Chill Ice Cream recommend.
Dude people need to find something better work them selves up over lol. Seriously? Eating off each others plates. Pretty sure that just comes with the territory of being a couple lol
No one in the history of Cracker Barrel has ever said their gravy is spicy 😂😂... leave it to a brit.
Seasoned--yes. Spicy--no. 😂
I think he's just one of those people that don't like anything remotely spicey, even pepper.
I worked with a guy who couldn't eat hot dogs because they were too spicy for him.
And they they acted like the Mac & Cheese was connoiseur-level stuff,. Doesn't Cracker Barrel just have basic typical food?
They have THE BEST Mac and cheese!
Cracker Barrel feels “PROPER TEXAS”😂 Tennessee would like a word!😂
Since Texas would be nothing without Tennessee that's not too bad a statement.
Came for this comment! Them think the decor of Cracker Barrel looks Texas 🤣🤣🤣
Many places choose to leave their mashed potatoes a little lumpy because (1) it proves they're real, and not instant and (2) Some people prefer the texture.
I mentioned this in their previous video trying steak.
Most restaurants have chunky mashed potatoes.....most fast food places do not because they are instant.
Both can taste good, but that is probably the biggest difference.
I don';t mind some small lumps in my mashed potatoes. I even enjoy some lumps in my Cream of Wheat cereal. Reminds me of my youth when Mom used to cook it that way ... by accident. But hard to cook that way these days with the modern CoW.
I love lumpy mash ... not to show it's homemade but becuz I'm lazy. 😜
yea, i'm the complete opposite of them. i hate super smooth smash potatoes. it's like baby food then.
I absolutely prefer them chunky and if they have a little bit of skin on them as well.
Cracker Barrel is the mass-produced version of Southern country cooking. While it’s not as good as what Granny cooks, it’s great food for the money and it’s consistently good no matter where you go. For my family, it’s a nice way to break up a long road trip. Everybody gets a chance to get out of the car and have a decent meal that’s about the same price you would pay for fast food, but much, much better.
Yeah, I like the candies and things in the store side, but I've always found the homey ambience to be contrived and artificial. The food is okay, but nothing to write home about. Best to seek out reviews for genuine, non-chain Mom and Pop places.
I keep seeing these kinds of comments in regards to Cracker Barrel. I didn't know so many people had grannys that could cook. I wonder if she can actually cook or do you like it because she's your granny.
@@sacredbeastzenon LoL, True Dat!
@@sacredbeastzenon I’m guessing your Granny makes biscuits from a can. I’ll pray for you.
@@chaddnewman2699
My grandpa would be the one to make biscuits and gravy.
"I'm not sharing!" 🤣Then she takes 6 forks of his mac 'n' cheese, 2 of his okra, and a fry. 🤣🤣
It's different
It's like they are already married!
The best thing about Cracker Barrel is that they're all over the US. You're never too far away from one.
I don't think they're in New England
@@jeffhampton2767 I'm sorry. Lol. I'm actually not super close to one either. About an hour away.
@@jeffhampton2767 They are in New England
@jeffhampton2767 they are in New England. Not Vermont.
Not Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming
There are no Craker Barrels in Washington or Oregon. I only ever eat there when I go to Boise, Idaho, - a 9 hour drive. (Looks up locations) there’s one in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, a 6 hour drive from here.
Cracker Barrel is pretty good. Y'all should try butter on your cornbread.
Try some jelly or honey or your biscuits too!
Always butter up the corn bread.
I split them down the middle, wedge some butter in there, slap it back together, and butter the top.
Butter and honey on fresh hot cornbread is food heaven for me.
And jelly, too...jam???
@@allaspects11 You put jelly or jam or cornbread? I like jelly, jam, or preserves on biscuits, but I never thought about putting it on cornbread.
Cracker Barrel originated in Lebanon Tennessee. I ate at the original store as a child when there was only one Cracker Barrel.
I remember Cracker Barrel cheese in grocery stores in Phoenix when I was a kid in the 70s.
Okra is a vegetable
Wow, Bob! That was a long time ago bubba!!! Let me guess, y'all went in your brand new horse and carriage???? I'm just kidding Bob, but cracker barrel is older than me soooooo, wow.
Was about to come say the same thing Bob
Me too!
"That's better than Denny's." Perfect statement.
“They don’t taste healthy.” Ahhh ha ha ha ha ha ha 😂
Thank gawd it doesn't taste healthy
@@allenruss2976 😆
That's really the best part. 😀
That lard will make leather taste good, hahaha.
What that tastes good is healthy please the unhealthy part is eating to much of anything or eating the fake lab food that they try to say is better for you
FYI, “chunky chips” shaped like that are usually referred to as “steak fries” in the U.S.
He already mentioned that he ordered "Steak Fries" at the beginning of their video when listing what they had ordered. 😉
Cracker Barrel is solid. Nothing fancy, but the food is generally always pretty tasty.
I love the rainbow trout.
My favorite there is chicken fried chicken. And love the okra.
Just good down home cooking 😊
@@TexasRose50 are you really from TX? I ask, because native Texans only say fried chicken unless they are ordering a chicken fried steak.
Not really. It tasted canned and overly-commercialized.
“They don’t taste healthy, they taste so good…” 😅🤣😂
I never was a fan of green beans growing up in New England, until I went to different places. I didn't know until I was an adult that green beans could be tasty when cooked with bacon and spices. Blew my mind.
😂😂😂😂😂
Butter the corn bread and put honey on the biscuit (eat one side at a time).
This comment right here for the win
Funny. I do it the opposite. Honey cornbread is top notch. I keep my biscuit savory, preferably with gravy.
Butter on the corn bread. Butter and jam on the biscuit. Butter and maple syrup on the biscuit is good, too.
@@KnikkiBKnice I'll have to try honey on corn bread; sounds good.
The grape jelly on the biscuits is yummy
Millie: "It's so good I don't want to waste it on you" lol
That's true love
Then she tries to eat all his Mac & Cheese 🙂
Okra is a vegetable. People either like it or not, there's no in-between.
I don’t like it, I love it!!!
Okra is not a vegetable it's a flower pod
@@jeffhampton2767True. But it is eaten in the southeast U.S. as a vegetable. And being a plant it is considered part of staying on a vegetarian diet if you’re on one.
Okra is best fried but you can also boil it. It takes good boiled but it’s very slimy. That texture is a problem for many. I like it both ways.
@@dalemoore8582For me, it depends on how it is prepared and cooked.
For the price, Cracker Barrel is about the best place you can go to eat. Everything on the menu is good eating.
I'd take smashed potatoes over lump free ANYTIME
Truth! I like KNOWING it's made of actual potatoes instead of just flakes of starch.
Yes! Food needs texture. Otherwise it's basically baby food!
Nothing like knowing it’s done right and fresh❤
We call it "rustic" when there are lumps and garlic.
same!!
I have a 17yo Granddaughter that has been working in our local Cracker barrel since she was 15yo. She wanted to go to work 😁👍🏼❤️. She worked Mother's Day and made 304$ in tips. She always makes good money but that was nice 10hr pay & doesn't count the few $'s that she makes per hour. Love that kid and our Cracker barrels in North Carolina ❤. Happy belated Mother's Day Millie ❤. Archie is the cutest 🥰. Love y'all ❤️.
I said it and I'll say it again, Cracker Barrel is the closest y'all will get to homemade cooking from a chain restaurant. Denny's and IHOP is garbage compared to most breakfast restaurants. I hope y'all got a chance to drop in for their breakfast, because it's that good.
This is no joke, I can eat a Cracker Barrel for the same price or slightly cheaper than Five guy. It's way better food, you have a server to wait on you, and you get to choose breakfast, lunch, or dinner instead of burgers or hotdogs. Millie, i love to see people so happy about food. Great video y'all.
Interesting. I don’t care for their breakfast. Everything just seems heavy (like the biscuits), and kind of meh to me.
@@joeterp5615 well, in the south that heavy biscuit gives us energy throughout the day. That hearty breakfast is a Southern Comfort at it's best. ;)
@@JLee54321 I hear ya. Looking at their menu just now it reminded me of why their breakfast isn’t for me. I like options like omelettes and cut breakfast potatoes. They are very biscuit-centric and hash brown centric. So not really the options that appeal to me for breakfast (though sure, I’ll enjoy biscuits with fried chicken for dinner on occasion). But hey, I respect that lots of people love them… and this includes one of my sisters - which is why we’ve gone there after church several times.
And got to admit, Denny’s and IHOP’s breakfast menus offer much more of what I like. 😉
@@joeterp5615 every plate they offer has a protein. I go on Sunday sometime where they pot roast or fried chicken and it's a good amount of food. They have meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, and breakfast has a lot of different breakfast meats. Down in the south we do a lot of hunting and fishing, so we know a lot about add proteins to our meals.
@@JLee54321 Maybe I’ll check them out for lunch/dinner sometime. I did enjoy the grits (learned to like these from my Dad who is from South Carolina). I was in the deep South last year in Alabama, and had some AMAZING southern food - including from a small-town diner that a movie (Fried Green Tomatoes) was based on. Delicious homestyle food.
Y’all are just adorable. I hope every single person you met while you were here knew how lucky they were to meet you. You have to come back again soon. There’s much more to enjoy as you go across the country. You are loved!!!
Some people/restaurants add chunks of cooked potatoes into the mashed potatoes. It’s not a mistake. My mom used to make them like this.
It just adds texture.
My experience is that they serve food that is much like traditional home cooked meals. Love it!
Millie dipping her fry into the gravy is truly a southern thang, loved it from Georgia.
Cracker Barrel is one of the few chains where you can get home made style food. A lot of people get their Mother's Day and Thanksgiving dinners at Cracker Barrel, if you want to eat there, prepare to wait for more than an hour, it's as busy as Black Friday on Mother's Day. You can order Thanksgiving and do pickup. Cracker Barrel is about the only place where you can still get Books on Tape (on CD, though) and they carry their own line of Cracker Barrel branded cast iron cookware, manufactured by Lodge. They've also helped a lot of classic, old fashioned soda and candy companies stay in business with their gift shop, which is an homage to the old country stores you see in Westerns and shows.
Cracker Barrel is the ultimate road trip restaurant, glas y'all enjoyed it!
Unless you stumble upon the right mom and pop restaurant, Cracker Barrel is going to be the best example of Southern cooking you can get at a restaurant.
Now you know why I love Cracker Barrel, Millie. It’s one of my all time breakfast places.
I hope they drop in for breakfast, because Cracker Barrel has one of the best breakfast.
Our normal “southern” food. So glad you liked it.
I wouldn't even call it "southern". It's just ersatz American "home cooking" (in their ads they call it "homestyle" themselves). I think the thing I got the few times I've eaten there was meatloaf. That's hardly just "southern".
Always put butter on your corn bread...love you guys❤
Cracker Barrel is the way our southern restaurants used to be.... Big ole fireplace, ,,,,,, with a fire!!!! Warm comforting atmosphere great soul warming food served as quick as it can be fixed.... Free refills on Coffee, Sweet Tea and Water with all the lemon you want!!
Service is friendly, fast and always an older grandma type lady with a charm only Americans have!
Enjoy Brits!!
Most of the time, when my husband and I go out to dinner, I will order one entrée, and he will order another. We will each eat half of our entrée, and then switch plates so we both get a little bit of each meal. Forget the comments about Millie eating off your plate, James. You went about it the right way.
the reason everything taste great is because they put "seasoning" on the food. New concept for Brits
Their chicken fried chicken and loaded hashbrown casserole is the best!! Cracker Barrel has actually been closing down some of their locations.
Okra is a vegetable that grows on a stalk like plant. It starts its life as a flower (as a matter of fact it's in the hibiscus family it's also a form of nightshade plant) that falls away and a small bud remains. The bud grows into a fuzzy long green finger-like vegetable. It's harvested by cutting it off the stalk. The more you harvest, the taller the stalk grows and the more the plant produces. It can be boiled, used in stews such as gumbo, or breaded and fried. If boiled it becomes really slimy and a lot of people are repulsed by it.
It's not a vegetable it's a flower pod and some say it's actually a fruit
Cleaning them to cook they feel very slimy as well. I adore fried okra but the boiled variety is not my cup of tea
@@jeffhampton2767 By technical definition of the plant, its a fruit... just like tomato is a fruit too, but both are considered the same as vegetables in the way they are prepared for cooking... and most people only interact with them as food, so most consider them a vegetable, even though they aren't really.
FYI: Okra isn't in the nightshade family. Among other members of the okra family are cotton, cacao, and durian.
@@jeffhampton2767, Okra is a SEED POD. It's most definately a vegetable!!!
We travel in our RV a lot. Cracker Barrell usually has lager parking spaces for RV'ers and tour busses. On one occasion we were traveling thru Tennessee and arrived late. We parked our rig overnight in the Cracker Barrell lot. Next morning there was a knock on our door. It was the Cracker Barrell manager with a pot of coffee and two menu's. Can't get better hospitality than that. Also, Okra is better fried crisp!
El Mirage, Arizona
Cracker Barrel is a family tradition every year for a lot of families, mine included. The whole family will come together once a year after our reunion and go to Cracker Barrel 20 deep and have a great time and a great meal.
So glad you lovely people are enjoying life. All the best.
Never seen Millie so blown away by her food before. Cracker Barrel is really good
So funny you should refer to the cornbread as a “savory cake”. I am an old southern lady and we call it a cake of cornbread also!! Love that y’all are enjoying the 🇺🇸 😊
Some of my family was from Kentucky and certain words and phrases have stuck, picalilly and cornbread cake as well.
I love you guys for loving our Cracker Barrel. It is Country home cooking, when families ate together and had lots of children. So another words our soul food, no frills and comfort food.
I'm from Central Texas & there's a Cracker Barrel in my hometown. We eat at it all of the time, & my mom loves to buy Christmas Stocking gifts at the store.
Cracker Barrel is one of three restaurants that my family visits on Sunday after church. The others are Texas Roadhouse and Pizza Ranch.
I have never had a meal that did not taste good at Cracker Barrel. You can get better food, but it costs 3 to 4 times as much. Best food for the price I've ever had.
In a lot of places potatoes with lumps are either called “smashed” or “country style” and smooth potatoes are called “mashed “ or “whipped “. Like another poster said, some places leave lumps in them to prove they use real potatoes and not dehydrated.
The first time I've been a Cracker Barrel was when my family and I went to Georgia for a family members wedding, and on our way back to Virginia, we came across one and decided to eat there. It's was our first time in a Cracker Barrel except for maybe my uncle who was with us. I loved it. I don't know why but I loved it so much I went back on my 16th birthday and going back for my 19th this year in July.
Cracker barrel is just good comfort food , where I live in Alabama there are three within a 15 mile radius. My wife Brenda and I love a trip to the cracker barrel.
They are lumpy because they are mashed. Smooth potatoes are whipped. Okra is extremely healthy, full of vitamins.
Any bread that’s given to you in a restaurant gets butter here. Cornbread, biscuits, dinner rolls, etc. Makes it so much better!
I always put loads of butter on my cornbread & biscuits(not to mention pancakes & waffles). Shake more pepper on white gravy & it tastes better. Always eat chicken fried steak with gravy. Glad you enjoyed your visit to Cracker Barrel. ❤
if you eat cornbread or biscuits by themselves. you use butter inside and on top of the cornbread. but you use jam inside the biscuits. typically, though, you eat them with the meal and use them to 'sop up' any gravies or sauces let over.
You guys are great! I love Cracker Barrel too! Love your comments. Nothing like down home country cooking. Welcome to America!
Cracker Barrel is the same all over the Southeastern and Midwestern United States. It's a chain.
they leave the lumps in it so you know its real potatoes, so many restaurants make it with potato flakes instead of whole potatoes
I just ate there last night. Decent food at a decent price. The pastor at my church came here 1 1/2 years ago from South Africa and discovered it one night while was at my local one. He couldn't get over the amount of food for the price because he had his wife and 5 kids with him. He loves the place. I guess I do too.
I was a server for 15 years. Another drink should be brought out whenever you are less than half full. They should net ask unless it’s after your meal is done. Then if it’s low ask if you would like one to go.
They all look alike to me, I have breakfast there usually. Apple butter is good with the biscuits.
I love Cracker Barrel, my wife and I go there two or three times per month. The decor always reminds me of Grandma Rosie's house, and the food is almost as good as Grandma's. ;) Nothing is ever as good as Grandma's, right? Guys, here are some tips from a regular... ALWAYS butter the heck out of your cornbread and biscuits. No matter how good they are, butter makes 'em better! The mac 'n cheese is awesome, but don't forget the hashbrown casserole. And finally, on the way out be sure to load up in the candy section, especially with the Chunky bars. More good stuff on the menu, have a blast exploring. Loved the reaction!
You need to smear the butter on a warm cornbread muffin, first then take a warm cornbread muffin (separate on a saucer/bowl) smear butter and pour maple syrup over the top. sweet for a breakfast or desert dish.
Not a desert!!!! So sandy!!!! 😂😄
Love that you call our biscuit a biscuit!!!
One of my favorite restaurants!!
First Cracker Barrel I went to…was in Dayton, Ohio…😍
Cracker Barrel is far superior to Applebees…
Sadly, as far as I know, we don’t have a Cracker Barrel in Buford/Laramie, Wyoming…🥺
I AM JEALOUS BEESLEYS!!
I was laughing so hard at how many times Millie stole the Mac n cheese. lol
my favorite place. good food, good prices, good service, and good atmosphere.,
Thank you very much for enjoying and appreciating U.S. food and culture, it means a lot.
I like how Mille is learning to mix her foods. I was hoping she would b4 she left. Sometimes it is the mixture that makes it......
Edit: sp
in the winter they have a roaring fire place at ours food is always pretty nice. i particularly like their breakfast
Cracker Barrel isn't Texas-specific. We have them up here in the Northeast. It's more a "small-town country store/restaurant" vibe & we have lots of small towns. 😏
It did my heart good to see you guys enjoy Cracker Barrel so much. I don't know why, but it holds a special place in my heart. I know it's not a five star restaurant, but it hits some kind of spot for me.
"I'm open for chaos." "Got it. Let's go to Cracker Barrel!"
I think that it's great that the two of you share the meal and try different things. That really shows how bonded and grounded that you are as a couple. It's also a great example to set for your children so that they learn the joy of sharing. I love to see people from the empire realizing how us colonists made such a great use of the blessings of this land. Even folks from down under can't resist our food!
Love these America videos. I hope you guys had an awesome time here :)
Okra is the immature seed pod of a tall plant related to cotton and mallows. It is an ingredient in traditional Gumbo and is also pickled and fried. The lumps mean the mashed was made of real potatoes that were not forced through a ricer but probably hand mashed.
👍🙂❤️
I live in Memphis. I LOVE Cracker Barrel! I could eat the “Super-Duper” breakfast EVERY day. Thanks for sharing your videos.
👍🙂❤️
Fun watching you two, great couple, great family, dang lucky kid.
Non breaded okra is kind of slippery..I love it breaded and fried.
My sister was a waitress and my youngest brother and two nephews were chefs at Cracker Barrel for years. My brother is a master egg juggler, honed during times in the kitchen when waiting for the breakfast or dinner rush. It was pretty cool to visit the Cracker Barrel and the chef steps out of the kitchen to say hi.
Nice one of my favorite places on earth such good food and a very chill place. Love the shop and can even sit on a rocking chair on the outside and enjoy the rain
Okra was a vegetable the Black Slaves grew in Africa. They asked the Plantation Owner's to bring seeds here for them to grow and eat. They also did that with Yams, and Rice. It has since become a southern favorite.
Thanks. You've made me so hungry for Cracker Barrel I must go there. And it's all the way on the other side of town! 😖
Be happy 'bout that. I live in Maine next to the Canadian border. I'd have to drive 4 hours down to Portland to get a Cracker Barrel, and now I'm hungry for some.
This entire video cracked me up from start to finish!! We Americans take SO many things from granted - it's refreshing to see others actually enjoying a good American meal !
Hint with the butter... Poke the butter container lid with your fork then squeeze the butter out onto the bread or what ever you are putting putter on. No need to open it.
If you melt it by letting it sit beside something warm, that might work.
How much I would love to cook a proper southern meal for you kids🥰 I'm sure there are plenty of folks who would welcome you into their home. While restaurants will give you a taste, the best experience is home cookin🥰
I love the excitement of the 2 of you just ready to dig in. James is all for the chaos, Millie saying "Oh my god" a bunch of times because it's so good. It's been a while since I've had Cracker Barrel. Now I want some.
Cracker Barrel is always a solid choice for comfort food. Reasonably priced and always YUMMY!!!
Brad's Wife would've loved to see this
“We are in Cracker Barrel…it’s loud in here” 😂 Thats all you needed to say to prove you’re legit.
Soooo glad you two got to experience Cracker Barrel
Ugh I was the one bragging about Denny's chicken fried steak! Now I have to try Cracker Barrel's! LOL! Glad you liked the food!
❤ CB's steak, biscuits & hashbrown casserole 😋
I love their hard candy sticks in the Gift Shop and their food is yummy and at a good price. I like sitting by the fireplace in the winter and I love just sitting and rocking in the rocking chairs out front. Great place for every one especially families because if your kid is restless after driving a long way then just hang outside in the rocking chairs and let them rock or play around a bit before going in as long as their not disruptive to anyone else outside on the sidewalk.
It's a shame y'all can't fit one of their rocking chairs in your carry-on luggage!
And those chips, known as steak fries are actually trying to jump into that bowl of gravy
Cracker Barrel is a national chain that started in Lebanon, TN. Prices are the same everywhere, taxes may be different.
Okra is a seed pod from a flowering plan.
Fried okra gets more flavor from the breading. Often used is other southern stews as a thickener. Applebees tends not to have as good of service as cracker barrel.
We don’t have Cracker Barrel in Canada and every time I go to the States I go there. Love it 🌸
I grew up in California and moved to the South when I was 30. Food in the South must be experienced. It cannot be described.
Thank you! Thats a very sweet thing to say💕
Cracker Barrel is my favorite restaurant. I love their dumplings.
Cracker Barrel is one of my favorite places. My family actually ate our Thanksgiving dinner there this past fall. It was so tasty and our family got to enjoy each other's company without running around trying to get dinner on the table or refilling drinks.
This makes me happy. Stopping at Cracker Barrel was a featured part of every family road trip vacation while our kids were growing up. Surprisingly good food for such an inexpensive, large chain of restaurants. Winning.
Cornbread is usually topped with butter or honey... sooooo good!
(and biscuits usually get butter, honey, or jam/jelly)
I have to eat a couple biscuits with the Blackberry Jam.
Biscuits yes, but I grew up with a mother from the deep south, and cornbread was always savory, never sweet, or eaten with anything other than butter. I know a lot of people prefer it sweet and/or like you described, but that would be anathema to Mom!
Crackers Barrel was founded in my hometown of Lebanon, TN. The old country store vibe is part of it's draw. You can find retro candy and country everything in the store. You might be in Texas but welcome to a taste of Tennessee.
