Unfortunately we cannot buy a smoker, we live in an 2 bed apartment 😅 one day when we have a house, we will definitely be investing in one. For now, we’ll just remember the taste of Terry Black’s 😂🥰
You need to hook up with the H's.Let the kids get to know each other and learn more about smoking with them.
Wrangle an invite to Mr and Mrs H's. They got an American smoker in England
You must know *someone* with a bit of space, not too far away, that would let you use their garden for a day now and then, in exchange for some smoked meats.
I know I'd be happy to do that for you, but Illinois doesn't really fit your proximity needs.
We've even let our smoker go out without us, to a rib contest our neice's husband was in.
There is ways to make something reasonably good enough to quench your meat bbq dreams!! You got others to try in Texas, and other states.
I really enjoyed your take on Terry Black's barbecue. Thank you for sharing. 👍😊
So this trip y'all found out you aren't picky eaters. Y'all just ain't had good cookin. 😂
This comment wins, can’t stop laughing 😂😂😂😂how true 😂😂😂
They been eating food but it ain't got no soul in it😂
Ok I love this!! We season things like heck!! It’s so good!!
Makes me think about Jim Gaffigan asking about English food: "How bad is your food when adding vinegar improves it?!
This is fun guys! Glad you finally got to try proper BBQ
That is sooo funny, but true. Good one!!!
It's such a shame. Britain conquered half the world over spices then refused to use any of them.
LOOL….so true
Not true. You need to true the national dishes of Britain.
Pizza, and curry.
@@alanfoster6589 Britain did not invent either of those lol
@@Gregory-qu1ctthat’s the point 😂
Wait….Haggis is spiced! 🤮
"I thought paprika was quite spicy. " is the most British sentence ever.
Have you ever tried English mustard?
I’m starting to think their idea of spice is just seasoning. They genuinely can’t tell the difference and it blows my mind.
Were you born in 1977?
As a New Englander, I agree with the sentiment.
@@nellgwenn yeah - English mustard is very flavorful but think of how many flavors usually with a Dijon - type base there are available? PS we do have our US yellow mustard .... which blands out a lot ...
Why does it make me so happy to watch perfect strangers eat Texas BBQ ?
Because we know we have the best in the world.
Because it's like experiencing it for the 1st time all over again... we know that it's good but there is something about watching someone else experience that goodness for the 1st time that takes us back to our 1st time, its like falling in love all over again 😅
You are proud of your country. We (Americans) produced this cuisine you can try and dup but only in america will you get this kind of food i enjoyed it also made me wanna go back to blacks and get some food but im in cali and i can make it myself but its always fun to try others and watch other enjoy a cuisine i admire and partake everyday.
It's the only good thing about Texas.
Barbacoa is mexican
“I need that back, I need that in my life” …made me smile. We get it👍🏻
I loved it when Millie said, "Get your own !"
Pork ribs FTW.
I laughed out loud on that one!
I was smiling the entire time!!! Ive been watching the Beesleys for a while reacting to other brits and the NZ family. Now I know why I’m only subscribed to them. They are so simple and fun to watch. Real people full of wonder and amazement.
I love channels like theirs, NZ Fam and Tribal People Try. It's so fun to watch people experience new things
As an American it’s nice to be reminded of how good we have it. The diversity of our country only adds to the appeal and it shows in our foods.
And they wonder why we're all fat. Hard not to be when the eating is this good, lmao.
I’ve never been more thrilled for strangers on vacation. 😂
I do enjoy watching Europeans trying American BBQ....But are "WE"...
Not telling them....Yes the Meats and Sides and Desserts are Made to be Delicious...Individually.......But are also made Elevate one another.....when eaten Together!?
For Example....The spicy Jalapeno sausage pairs well with the cool, crisp tangy Coleslaw.
Now you understand why taking leftovers home ("doggie bag") has been mostly an American thing. 😊
You wont know until you visit. The food here in the US is so much more diverse and flavorful than a lot of other places on earth.
Chicken fajitas for one is enough for 2 meals each for my wife and I at our local Mexican restaurant.
@@ecclesrice9789 When I went to Terry Blacks, I got full after eating half a rib. Took it home for dinner.
Places like this is why I will never understand why people choose to vegetarians

I have to say it - this is what happens when you put the spices ON the food.

that is funny you are so right.😂🤣
@NDM100: LMAO! I didn't even know their food is beyond bland until I started watching Jolly awhile back.

Well how about that? Our British cousin's finally came for a visit ❤ I hope everyone is being kind and helpful.
I mean this in a silly funny way but Millie turned savage over that pork rib lol
"Give that back " had me dying 🤣 😂 😭 laughing 😃

“I need that back! I need that in my life…” 😂
Most American thing ever is to eat amazing food off of disposable plates and plastic cutlery.
Terry Black's just showing off serving all that pit meat with plastic forks, haha!! You can almost look at it and it falls apart.
Well some BBQ restaurants in Texas only give you butcher paper with your sides in French fry boats.
I'm glad fantastic American food generally doesn't require pomp or pretentiousness.
Be fair. Proper BBQ barely needs cutting. 😃
@@tammymiller5801 I like the aluminum tray and butcher paper better. It's more environmentally friendly. I've had it that way in Texas before.
Barbecue is pretty much the reason why people throughout Texas and the South are bigger than most people. It's just SOOOO good.
I know right? LOL
yep - in AZ we have pitmasters from all over but Texas predominantly - great beef ---- however, for fun a 'pig-pickin' ' with a whole hog on a spit in North Carolinna is fantastic

You'd be amazed how good peoples bbq at home taste, so many claim theirs is better than everyone's or my brisket, ribs, beens, pork etc.... is the best and the lady's, look out because their familys recipe for pecan pie is best. The pecan pie you had couldn't compare not even close. They even compete N, S, E, West Texas and brag who's best, and still the different States compete Kansas City brags on their sauce, ribs, etc. But I say Texas is the best state and everything including BBQ 😊. Watch the other states chime in 😂 Losers ✌️
Im fasting for 24 hours and I have to say this is the WRONG video to watch.😂😂😂

" You're gonna need to hand that back.. You need to hand that back...I need that in my life...." LOLOL. You know you got good BBQ when you hear a person saying that.
Don't be discouraged about your own BBQ, be challenged to up your game. Even if you don't have giant smokers, there's a ton you can do with your own BBQ setup at home. These guys were all like you once upon a time, they just invested the last ~70 years into making it perfectly. It's like making a good Turkey. You don't just start making amazing Turkey, you work at it, and the recipe and your execution of the recipe improve over time.
What a terrific comment this is! Seriously, this comment really made me smile, especially the part with "These guys were all like you once upon a time."
Cheers, Brian!
Indeed. There's no reason at all that Brits can't make BBQ just as good as this at home. Maybe even add their own innovation to it.
This is exactly right, I've been smoking brisket, chicken and ribs for years now at age 27, I started with helping my dad starting around age 12 or so and we both learned together over the last 15 years. The stuff him and I make now is so much better than what we made all those years ago, but it was a fun experience learning all this time and getting better all the while
I said this before, but now you 2 are part of the RUclips lore that actually made it to Terry Black's! From salivating over other RUclipsrs getting to travel and eat there and saying "We want to do this" to actually DOING it! That's the dream.
My parents had a vacation home in a town between Austin and San Antonio. My dad built a huge BBQ pit from bricks and metal he welded. Growing up, he would sit in his lawn chair near the pit all day with his glass of wine or cigar while the brisket slow cooked, ribs, sausage, baked potatoes. My mom would make homemade baked beans, homemade bread, homemade potato salad, homemade coleslaw, corn on the cobb and homemade BBQ sauce. Of course onions, tomatoes and dill pickle slices. For dessert, homemade peach cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream or the famous Texas ice cream Blue Bell. Also banana pudding. The next day we make sandwiches with the leftover meat. For Thanksgiving, he would smoke turkeys on the pit. His friends would request him to also smoke their turkeys. The pit was so large, 10 20 pound turkeys fit on it all at once. They had pecan trees and made pecan pie from them. In the summer we would float down the river sitting in inner tubes. Nothing like those hot lazy summer days eating vanilla ice cream, cream cheese ice cream or ice cream made from fresh peaches or strawberries. Eating vanilla ice cream on cobbler or pie in common in Texas.
Texas Nirvana.
great memories from your family.... thanks for sharing
I was born, raised and live in Ohio and we like ice cream on our pies too. I can't imagine who wouldn't like it. It's delicious.
Enjoyed reading that. Great memories eh? I remember hand-cranked peach ice cream. Soooo good.
A riddle for British guys -- “why were there so many British explorers?” Answer - “they were all searching for a good meal”. Haha.
It was mostly Italian, Spanish, and French explorers.
Watching Millie enjoy that rib was great, her almost assaulting James to get it back was priceless. If they found anything they didn't like at terry Black's, i would have been shocked.
Something I hate from Terry Blacks:

If someone opens a BBQ place in London, serving american bbq, they would make millions.
They would get shut down for violating air pollution laws for running smokers around the clock.

Aww, dang it! I missed that. I was too busy checking out the lady in black on the right. She showed up around 10 minutes in. She wasn't a fan.
I just love it when our English friends come and indulge in some great BBQ!!!!!
What the Brits do is considered grilling meat. BBQ you are having is smoking low and slow hours. That is how it is so flavorful and tender.
Isn't it way cool when your expectations are not only met, but surpassed!👍
James! Your Mum looks proper gorgeous in her cowgirl hat! WOW! Like a proper Texan (if she doesn't talk😉🤭)!🥰😍🤠

Mr. And Mrs. H just bought a killer smoker. That’s gonna be your best bet. Maybe the Jolly boys next. Welcome to Texas. 🙌🏼 watching Brits try Texas BBQ is such a reminder to not take it for granted.
I never thought how we Americans take things like this for granted like slow cooking BBQ/food and actually seasoning it compared to the UK😂.
Ain’t it the truth? Videos and comment sections where British food is criticized as bland or dull always attracts someone-usually a Brit-who insists that British food is actually tasty and flavorful, yet every Brit on YT who tries American BBQ is shocked by food that is seasoned.

She does! I thought she was from Texas! I didn't know it was Mom!
If your turkey is dried out, it is overcooked. I cook mine upside down so the juices go into the breast.
My family does the same! Everyone says it's the best turkey they've ever had.
Yeah, my mom fusses at me every year at Thanksgiving because I pull out the turkey and it's upside down, but when she eats it she's always like, Why is it so juicy? Lol
Where do you put the timer. I bake mine half the time and smoke it the rest of the time ends up super good
The green beans are probably steamed, then quickly tossed in a frying pan with hot bacon grease. That's why they're so good!
Blanched long green beans, couple minutes in boiling water, then shocked in ice water. They turn bright green. Then you prepare them how you'd like.
I love the foreign reaction of “why are ours so bad!!!???!??? 🥰
As a native Texan, it makes me incredibly proud that out of all the places you could go, you chose one of the most authentically Texan dining experiences you can have. Places like Terry Blacks are EVERYWHERE.
The only place I'd rank over Texas (that I've experienced) is Louisiana. Their food is on a whole other level with the seafood and French and Caribbean influences. They're untouchable
I've never seen that reaction to creamed corn before.
When you show up at the "H" family home, make sure you're wearing one of their "Here for the Brisket" t-shirts! 🤣🤣❤

I think the first time you have REAL Texas BBQ it’s a life changing experience. 🍖
This makes me proud to be born in Texas. I don't live there now, but I appreciate a good BBQ. I'm so glad you got to try it.
Everything Millie hands to James, she wants back as soon as possible and I think she'd smack him if he finishes it off.
Lol! She's too sweet to do that, but yeah, she was enjoying it a LOT! She's got some Texas in her heart. :)
You eat the onions and pickles with the meat to cut the fatness and break up the smoky flavor and add a crunchy texture. The bread is for if you want to wrap up pieces of meat, but also to absorb the bbq sauce. Wrap/sandwhich
the bread, meat, sauce, onions and pickles for the perfect bite (Cole slaw optional).
ALL Beans with meat in them is a MUST! Flavor! 😅
And so it begins. 🥩🍽
Welcome to Texas, guys. Glad you had a chance to experience Texas barbecue. You should also try Tex-Mex and Chicken-Fried Steak while you're here, to get a well-rounded notion of our taste. Enjoy your stay, and God bless.
White bread, onions, pickles, and loose peppers are meant to be nibbled on while you’re eating your meal. The bread is a palate cleanser and the other things introduce brightness into the meal.
Creamed corn is a classic Southern dish. My mother was from southern Alabama and it was a part of every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her mother was born in southern Alabama in 1903, and she made creamed corn all the time.
And when you're in the South, it's not a pee-ken or pee-kan. It's a puh-kahn. I had a friend from Louisiana who would say pee cans are something you keep under your bed. Pecans (puh-kahns) are something you eat.
My grandmother had pecan trees all around her house so whenever we went to visit, she'd make a pecan pie from scratch, including the crust.
After experiencing that meal, you may understand why the U.S., particularly the Southern U.S., has an obesity problem. 😀
Right!! I swear I cannot figure out how brits get "peekin" out of pecan. 😅😅
There's only 1 "E", & it's an "A", not an "I". 😂😂
When I hear "pee-can" I think of someone urinating in a can. & "Peekin", well, nobody wants a peeping Tom! 🤣🤣🤣
I love Puh-kàan pie. ( FL and GA pronunciation.
Lol
Key Lime Pie is my next favorite. 😋
It was a favorite of mine growing up. My parents never had to admonish me to eat my vegetables when it was on the menu…
Not true. Southern, born and raised. Puh-khan is the ice cream. Pee-can is how its pronounced around here. Please don't lump all southerners together. It's a very large area with so many different cultures and accents
@@lovelypoets4003 you’re all wrong. It’s p’-CAN. 😂

This video had me crackin' up! Being a native Texan, I kind of take BBQ like this for granted as I have eaten it and cooked for most of my life. But, to see these Brits dive in and see the looks on their faces and their comments, it made me realize how lucky we are to have this kind of BBQ any time we want it. And, the best Mexican food in the US, too! Texas gives new meaning to the term Foodie.
For day-trips/picnics/tubing/etc in Texas...
1 Smoke (or buy) some brisket, then wrap in foil.
2. Get a loaf of Texas Toast (warmed/cooked) and put it in foil.
3. When you're hungry, put the brisket on a slice of Texas Toast (Garlic Bread), then fold it like a sammich... Shiner 1909 or Shiner Bock pair well.
You have achieved barbecue Nirvana.
Your BBQ is just called grilling here. Our BBQ is both the food and a cooking method different from direct heat at high temperature, short periods of time that you're used to. American barbecue cooks for a very long time over indirect heat (usually hardwood or charcoal) and with the smoke of the wood playing a key role in the flavor of your end product. The long cook at low temperature cause connective tissue, cellular structures and fat to break down. It makes the meat incredibly tender and moist. Banana pudding is usually a vanilla custard with layers of sliced banana, vanilla wafers and whipped cream.
But, confusingly, someone might invite you to a "barbecue" at their house and what they mean is grilling.
@@davidheiser2225 if they're from the Northern parts of the US.
@@davidheiser2225generally not from Texas. We usually call it “grilling” or a “cookout”. When we say barbecue, it’s not cooked on a grill, but smoked.

My fav RUclips couple at one of my favorite BBQ places in the world. Love this reaction!
The only banana in banana pudding is fresh banana slices. The pudding is vanilla. I think a lot of people think the pudding is going to have an imitation banana flavor. The best banana pudding recipe is Paula Deen's "not your momma Banana Pudding", it calls for chessman cookies but you can replace them with shortbread.
I don't know if you saw JOLLY's video they did at Sweet Potatoes Kitchen in Savannah, but their banana pudding looked TO DIE FOR! They put pecans in it. I was drooling.
The pudding my mom used was not vanilla...we made the pudding from the banana itself. But, most are...vanilla that is.

Looks like somebody is going to be investing in their own smoker. What most people don't realize, is the sheer amount of time it takes to make the bbq that tender and flavored. That brisket was probably smoked for 8-12 hours.
Terry Blacks does their briskets for 12-14. Also, if you haven't checked them out check out Jono Graham or Graham Family. Jono is South African, lived in the UK for a bit, and now lives in Slovakia. He is always crapping on UK food and while they save up for a U.S. trip he is building his own offset smoker to practice making his own BBQ.

It makes me happy that you two got to try some of the best food in the world. I'm retired from the US Army and I've had food from all over the world. A lot of it was mind blowing for me. Kimchi and Korean BBQ in Korea, sushi and ramen in Japan, soooo much great food in Thailand and the Philippines... But Texas BBQ is right up there with the best of them. European food is okay but does not even compare to most food around the world. Good Texas BBQ though... it's right up there at the top.
Hey you 2. I hope you really liked our State of Texas 🌼
Your mom looks so nice. She literally fits right in with Texas! 😁
The interesting part about Brisket is that if it wasn't smoked and seasoned the way it is, the brisket cut is considered a throw-away meat otherwise, but slow-cooking makes it so incredibly tender and the seasoning is heavenly.
I see Europeans all the time eating in the US and surprised by good barbecue. It's always worth a smile to see someone loving something they didn't know about before. There's a whole set of cooking skills to making good barbecue different to what you're likely ever to have done in England. Totally worth learning though.
