I took the first pitch 95% of the time. Gets your timing down whether it's a fastball or not. You adjust immediately. If you swing and miss at the first pitch or foul it off, it gets in your head and you think too much about your timing. You swing at the first pitch and it's an out, you're kicking yourself and the coach/team won't be too happy about your lack of patience.
@@jacekreller6034 Much different perspective between the on deck circle and being in the box with the pitch coming right at you. You also don't see the pitcher's arm slot from that angle.
Here's my answer before watching the video: NEVER. When you get a fastball right down the middle, you rip that pitch every time. (Okay, there may be some really extreme situations, for instance, playoff game, bases loaded, bottom of the 9th, tie score, 3-0 count, but I still like my answer: NEVER.) Okay, I'm watching the video now. The first two examples do not justify taking a pitch if it is thrown right down the middle, in my opinion. Justin, I greatly enjoy your videos, but this one I am not going to finish watching. Here is my strategy: fastball down the middle, you crush it, and if you just get under it slightly and hit a very long flyball to the left fielder, when you get back to the dugout, you apologize to no one. Your videos are tremendous, just not this one.

Isn’t the on deck circle for that?

AsWithinSoWithout yeah good point
@Maxwell French You are 100% correct. You get a pitch you like, you rip it.
