We run into the challenge of having Teams set up somewhat similar to organizational departments but within those teams we have focused teams on specific projects, so not everyone in the channel needs to be notified about everything on other channels. Would you recommend using Private Teams to be able to segment within the Channel structure? If so, do you see a downside with that?

I would re-think that structure for sure. Managing Private Channels within a Team is okay for a few channels, but for multiple projects, it would become an administrative burden.
I would rather create a Team for each project and add appropriate members to each Team - managing at the Project/Team level and not the channel level.

I created the Discussion Board assignment using your excellent video, created the breakout rooms in Channels, and it did not appear in the locked Breakout Rooms (I don't know how to unlock them) and they do not appear in the identically named Channels in my two other periods.

Unfortunately, when you create a channel, you can't make it span across Team sites. There is a near method that I will do a video on soon - using templates.
I'm not sure what you mean by "locked" channels. Let me know what's happening and maybe I can help out.

I'm teaching senior English at a continuation high school in southern California, and we're struggling with Teams. I want to create a Discussion Board Assignment and I already created Breakout Channels but they all have a little lock next to them that I can't get rid of. I created the assignment in Period One and tried to send it to multiple Channels as you directed but they did not appear except in the period where it was created.

Ron Berglas that’s Interesting. I suspect that this is a setting for your Teams environment. Your IT Department may have set up Teams to restrict the ability to manage Channels. It’s odd that you can create them, but then not have permission to manage them. Hopefully, they can change that setting. I can’t imagine any reason to not allow you to use Channels in the way I demonstrate

Oh! Also - did you create the Team yourself? If someone else created the Team - make sure they made you a Teacher and not just a member. That’s an easy fix - just let me know and I’ll create a quick video showing them how to make you a Teacher.

@@LearningandTechnology I'm not permitted, as a teacher, to create a Team. I created the 4 Breakout Room Channels in all three Channels but they're locked. I created the Discussion Board in Period one of three, and specified it should go to the same Breakout rooms in the other periods but it doesn't appear. I can add members but that's all.
