I finally went on holiday! Inspired by Scott's various bus journeys. I've just taken a 4 1/2 greyhound bus from Boston South Station to port authority station in New York. Scott would be proud.
A very informative video Scott, I knew there were capsule hotels / Pods in Japan but I didn't know they had them in Berlin. As Paul Young once sang "Wherever I Lay My Hat" (That's My Home) Certainly beats sleeping in a Bivie! Looking forward to your next adventure 👍
That surprised me. Maybe I was fooled by the camera, but it looked bigger than expected. And nice with a closed bathroom. I could definitely use this for one night.
I stayed in the Space Hotel in Vienna just near Praterstern station and the Prater amusement park and it was a fantastic experience, the pod was so cool and much more comfortable than a bunk in a backpacker hostel. And there was a Lidl just around the corner for a cheap croissant and coffee in the morning, what more could you want.
Thanks, Scott! You have the happy knack of making us feel that we're there with you (except for in the shower of course!...) The "hostel" looks pretty good though, and very clean. There'll be worse places to stay.
I remember staying at a capsule hotel in Japan once. Not a great experience. It was very hot and there was a small tv inside the capsule that played porn on it. The headphones socket didn’t work so people around me could hear the porn being played on the tv. I know Japanese well enough to have heard some Japanese guy calling me an idiot. That was my first and last time in a capsule
The U-bahn station by the Reichstag is called "Bundestag". Hotel prices in Berlin tend to rise significantly when there is an event in the city.... October is the time for the "Festival of Lights" and 2022's show was disappointing due to the energy cut-backs. For a European capital city, Berlin hotel prices are usually very reasonable. Wasn't aware of the capsule hotel but think I'll stick to a conventional hotel on future visits!
I lived and travelled in Germany and around Europe when playing in a nightclub band in the 80's and lived in Berlin for 18 months and currywurst is an abiding memory of that time as I lived on them.
Thanks for this Scott, good to know that this is an option. Was all accommodation expensive because of special events or is Berlin getting more expensive generally?
Blue lights in America on trains - were normal for sleeping passengers. People all react differently to them. Check out GLoves Trains on RUclips - she did a capsule hotel in the UK stay - which was almost a full sized room - window-less in plastic.. I think a couple might do nicely in your capsule hotel space!
Thumbs up for you sir, but thumbs down for this Malthusian Hotel. It should be illegal! It promotes the Malthusian concept! I would understand if it was like 10-20 Euros a night, but at 55? EVIL!

Reminds me of the capsule hotels in Tokyo. The Legendary Michael Palin described them as a luxury morgue.
Stayed in one very similar in Reykjavik. Did the job, I hate dorms so appreciated a little bit of privacy and everything was clean.
Best thumbnail ever :D and thanks for showing us! Looks like a bargain to me and I'd definitely consider it.

Wow it's like something from star trek🚀

Nice one Scott when. Hamburg please 👍👍👍
Similar concept will be introduced in new Nightjet stock being built by Siemens at the moment.
Visited Berlin back in October and stayed in the hostel too. It was a really great stay and the facilities were really good too.
Fascinating.
Love your travelogues, Scott ! Very informative and we see lots of different and interesting places 👍
Thanks for this video. I am staying tomorrow night. Good directions!

Good information. Berlin isn't cheap for hotels, and this would certainly do for one night.
I may give that a go when I go to Berlin
Interesting again! thank you.
Great video Scott
Great video!

Get in!!!
Great video, at one point we thought you were going to be living in the middle isle at Lidl.
does it have a wall socket/outlet for charging laptops?
Wow thanks for the tips on how cheap those hotel brands in Alexanderplatz are; €70 is an absolute steal, I’ll have to make sure my PA takes note
Totally agree. When he said ‘insane prices’ then said €70 I’m thinking to myself…..ok. That’s hardly insane in Berlin. That’s good. Even €90.
@@xr6lad Quite. Berlin prices have risen but they aren't insane. For a capital city they're still reasonable compared to elsewhere
Very claustrophobic! Rather you than me 😂😂😂😂😂
I just launched my review of Space Night too. I was there on December 8th. I think I only paid 31€ though. I would be curious to stay in the double...

Do the doors on the capsules you sleep in lock?... As I'd worry that someone would come mug you during the night,
No mention of security in the pods when leaving your kit there. Does each pod have a " door " lock"
It does!

Too claustrophobic for me, but great video scott
I want to stay at the space capsule hotel
I wonder why they don’t have capsules hotels in U.K.. I still wouldn’t pay €55 a night. I Japan they are the cheapest apart from internet cafes.
If you think Berlin is expensive at the moment, book a room in your old stomping grounds of Sydney.
Berliners ofcourse Natz
?
55€? Wow! I always wanted to stay in a capsule hostel, but that`s too expensive for me. But the hostel looks great!
€55 expensive??
I stayed in one in Bilbao last October and it cost around 30
Does it have Ac?
Whilst true Berlin hotel prices have gone up post covid, they're still cheap in comparison to London, Amsterdam + Paris.
Looks ok but I could not stay as no windows
It drives my German wife mental that you always call a Currywurst a “Curry Bratwurst”. Keep up the good work!
To shut in, l could not stay there,😊
Nov 2024: 34 euro a night is good value I think!
One and only problem with these / can you hear other people in the middle of the night ?
Ok. I don’t consider €70 for a basic (assume you mean Premier Inn standard) hotel that expensive. And certainly not in Berlin. But each to their own.
Not sure I could stay there..a bit confining.
Very pleased you found your curry bratwurst ❤
Why not find a sauna. It would be a lot cheaper and the facilities would all come included.
PS meant day
Hi
I send you an E-Mail but you never replay...
Can you check your Spam Folder?
Thanks
Probably would give me claustrophobia tbh
Germans cutting down on lights to save electricity
Not very comfortable viewing for women contemplating walking to a hostel on their own...
The world changes, but not faith in God
