Excellent thinking 'outside the box' for a trip. I was thinking you were going to Troon in Cornwall, a small village. Please keep these off-beat trips going.
This was awesome, I was expecting you'd found somewhere else in Scotland called Troon so was surprised when you ended up at the airport! Brilliant adventure! And 5:55 🤣
Thanks Steve. I met a few people along the way who recognised me, and when I mentioned I was travelling from Troon to Troon, I got some very strange looks! ... stranger than usual.
Pleasure to meet you in, of all places, Security at Glasgow Airport! Never knew of the other Troon, and as always, fascinating to find new places via your travels - keep up the videos!
There's an Oban on Stewart Island, off the southern tip of New Zealand's South Island. I think that would be the longest town-to-town journey I could do from Scotland. :-)
@@PlanesTrainsEverything I look forward to Oban to Oban with great anticipation 😃. I think you might have tapped into a rich stream of new videos here!
As a resident of Troon (the Scottish one) I was most surprised when you got off the plane at Charleroi as I was convinced you’d be going to Troon, a village near Camborne in Cornwall. I never knew there was a third Troon in Belgium. It might be worth doing a Troon Triangle! By the way, did you notice that half our railway station was missing? The buildings on the northbound platform were destroyed by fire a couple of years ago. They’ve got the go ahead to be rebuilt in a style sympathetic with what was there before but suitable for the accessibility we demand of the modern age.
Thanks for your comment. I did have a look at the poor Troon station. I'm glad you mentioned it will be sympathetic, as too many modern constructions are glass and steel and lacking any sort of warmth.
@@PlanesTrainsEverything I’m looking forward to seeing how the rebuild turns out. The original was a design of James Miller who was responsible for muck of Glasgow Central and the magnificent Wemyss Bay stations amongst others.

I did a quick check and couldn't find anything like it. The station signs are bi-lingual, and only works with the Dutch ones. In French, Trône doesn't work, so you have to be a bit selective. :-)
Ho ho! When I started watching the video, I thought, "I could comment that we have a metro station called "Troon" in Brussels. Then I discover that is exactly where you were headed to! (Though you pronounce it "Trone", like "Drone".) Really enjoy your videos.
I think I come up with some unusual content because a work colleague once described me as having a mind like a box full of frogs. It seems to work. :-)
A double-o in the relevant local language is pronounced to rhyme with "dough", not "through", and "Troon" is a homophone for "Trône" in the other official language of that city. It means "throne", as the station is at the Place du Trône / Troonplein - the area being so named because it is next to the Royal Palace.
Well done Sir! It only works in Dutch, as the French name is Trône and that doesn't really work. The Metro signs are bi-lingual, so you have to be selective. :-)
It's, ehm, rural in Silly. And the station is more a parkway station than a proper town station, it was moved to its current location after the old line was closed. But you can spot Eurostars and Thalysses... (no access to the HSL, though)

Not yet it isn’t. It’s got the go ahead but work hasn’t started yet. The metal girders were made safe after the fire as they support the catenary but there’s still no actual building on the northbound platform. Hopefully it won’t be long before the work starts.
