Great comment! I hadn't realized until you mentioned it, but the reason I like this channel so much is that Scott does things I would do. He doesn have a lot more stamina that I have!. Like you say, so many travel bloggers only want to show first class travel and that's not affordable for me.

It's a very big train station considering it is serving a small regional city. For me the real surprise is how by contrast Frankfurt has a relatively small Hbf. One would expect for a capital city and the largest city in Germany they would have a station to match. (The joke here being that Frankfurt is the capital of Germany since Berlin was split in half by the Soviets and East Germany being a shell of what West Germany became).
The Sir Scott moment was genius! But hey, my no.1 question is what happened to grabbing a curry wurst at Berlin Hauptbahnhof??? Love that station btw. Great video mate, look forward to the continuation of this crazy adventure...
I’m 1/4 Czech. My grandad was born in Czechoslovakia in 1923, he came to Scotland sometime around 1947 to escape the communists and it wasn’t until 1990 when communism fell that he was able to return to see his family. I’ve visited Czechia many several times as well, 1990 being the earliest and 2023 being the most recent. I still have a lot of family there mainly in Prague amd almost all of them speak good English
In the old Tegel I've certainly gotten off the plane and at the airport express buss within 15 minutes, though only when I had hand luggege. When visiting my dad in Germany, I would always leave myself a good couple of hours at Berlin Hauptbahnhof to get lunch and other supplies, for the rest of my journey. It's certainly one of my fave main stations. 🙂
Right, I have liked this before watching it. For some reason seeing you do these torturous journeys for RUclips content is incredibly entertaining. I admire your stamina!👍

I have only just discovered this excellent channel, and therefore only just viewed this video, taken in an area I visited as recently as June 2022. This video has been superb very interesting, since working there more than 30 years ago things change so much. It’s good to have someone doing the walking for you, I wouldn’t be able too do that again 3 miles maximum is my limit now.
Hi Scott. If memory services me correct the Dresden Sbahn line S1 terminates at Schona (as its the last station before czechia. Some trains also turn back at Bad Schandau) Would it not have been easier to change at Dresden instead of Decin? Nice video by the way.

The only slight issue I would have is whenever I've flown, a day or three later I sometimes end up with a stinking cold. Planes just are alive with cold viruses. I should disinfect everything before I sit down.
Good choice of destinations. :) However - why didn't you go directly from Dresden to Schöna, there is a frequent S-bahn line, without having to go to Děčín and back... :)

I have watched a lot of your videos and was wondering how Britain compared to all of the other countries you have been to transport wise obviously could make a good video
There has been articles about Deutsche bahn refusing to take over train from České dráhy (Czech railways) because it was malfunctioning. Looks like you got one of these. It's a shame because other trains in Czechia are not as bad as this (but there are lot of old trains still in service, so don't expect wonders). I like the cross-border ferry and I will definitely use it when I will visit Hřensko.
Is there any particular reason you didn't change at Dresden for the S-Bahn? S1 goes directly to Schona from Dresden Hbf. Would that have been slower than going to Decin and doubling back?

Just to point out that the Berlin CityTicket does not include the airport, which is in the State of Brandenburg in "Berlin" zone C. Assuming it wasn't cancelled, the FEX regional train would have got you to Berlin Hbf in about half the time as the S-Bahn. And finally, changing from the Eurocity to the local train (or bus) in Bad Schandau would have avoided the doubling back and been possible on one ticket.

I'll never understand people, especially travel vloggers who crap on Ryanair, especially since they would not be able to travel as often as they do without it.
Little trick for S-bahn, you don't need to buy a ticket to board the train in the sense that there is no fare barrier like you would see in say New York or Toronto. Consequently it is possible to board an S-Bahn train without a ticket (and without having to jump barriers) the key thing to watch out for are those dreaded ticket inspectors. My advice: locate the washroom on the train (if there is one) and use that if you see a ticket inspector coming by. Alternatively, if you see them coming by you get off at the next station and run for the washroom. If they try and stop you tell them you really badly need to use the washroom, you have a disability that requires you use right this instant and you make a beeline to the toilet in the station (or elsewhere). Chances are a ticket inspector is not gonna waste their time with one person who really badly needed to use the restroom.
