I rode a standard train from Vienna to Prague in 2009 when the statiion was still undergoing extensive restoration but I see they'd done a good job preserving this old masterpiece. And there is complete renovation planned to begin in 2028 and end in 2030 - part of the entrance building will be demolished (an ugly communist one), stairs will be build to connect the bottom with the upper part, where these days an ugly parking space is located - this will be remodeled to a park with a bus station for few international buses, from there a crossing of the road to the main building will be done and lastfully the whole park will be remodeled with new buildings, trees, bushes and so on...
      It sounds trivial, but believe me, it's a long awaited renovation, done by architects..

    One train was destroyed by polish truck driver who stopped between barriers on a crossing, I think 3 people died and the train driver lost his legs. Otherwise, it is very nice after the interior remodel. Even before it was nice. I like how it leans to curves. I have traveled with it many thousand km between Prague and Ostrava. Best experience is, when its empty. Friday afternoon is always full though. Used to travel in first class for 300czk with a student card, happy days. But now the service is better because of competition, you have power sockets and wifi, also you can order very good svíčková or goulash, or schnitzel for a reasonable price, and you dont have to get up from your seat, you order online and they will bring it. Pancakes are also good. Oh yeah, from the beginning, there was 2 first class coaches, they were almost empty most of the time. Before the remodel, they changed one of them into silent section, but second class. If you knew, you could ride the first class coach with bigger seats, but with a second class ticket,

    There are two more historical things you could have mentioned about the Prague main station. There is a bust in the concourse about the original name of the station. Back in the days of the First republic, Prague main station was called Prague Wilson station (yep. Woodrow Wilson). The other thing you could have checked out, is memorial to survivors of Holocaust and their savior, sir Nicholas Winton on the first platform, down in direction Dobříš (I believe that's south).
    Next time, you'll show up around, take a classic old school fast trains. I actually think them superior, even if run down.

    The train has top speed of 230km/h. But its service speed is only 160km/h as there are no tracks where it can go faster. Because theres no official part of track going above 160.
    Which is why outside of International (eurocity) the trains are usually hauled by trains that have top speed of 160km/h
    Also the train you took is the Morning Supercity (Eurocity) called "Pendolino Košičan"
    It follows the base Pendolino timetable of Prague - Liben - (Kolín) - Pardubice - (Česká Třebová) - Olomouc - Svinov - Ostrava - (Train continues as SEC to Košice)
    Cities in brackets () are intermediate stops Košičan makes otherwise the regular Supercity between Prague - Ostrava passes them with no stop.
    Currently Pendolino trains are replaced by EC (IC class) trains, however its still mandatory seat reservation (Commercial) train.

    Nice video, my home country, yay! Pendolinos will be around for a long long time. They are equipping them with an ETCS for a crazy amount of money right now so I bet that they will use them to their full potential as airlines use their planes.
    In Czechia I recommend to visit the Plum railway. It connects Litomerice (very nice town) with Most (perhaps the ugliest city there is) and it´s ran by an operator AZD, which is a major supplier of railway technologies and security devices and they run their own trains on their own railway line equipped with the latest technologies between these two cities under a public obligation. So it´s very bizzare that a private company can run their private trains for a public money and use the railway as a showroom for their products. Also there is a catering onboard during weekends in these tiny DMUs and a free hot drink or a plum brandy included in the ticket price which is like 2 Euros. The railway also runs through a pretty valley of Central Highlands. And for train enthusiasists there are connecting Interjets trains at Most, bizzare old DMUs to Pilsen and the infamous CRRC Sirius sets at the other side at Litomerice.

    Is it an idea actually to ask with trainrides like this one if the coffee cart also offers usb cable's/bricks?
    Knowing technoligy has come quite far thus i feel like in this time we live in it should be asked at least i would give it perhaps a decade(maybe more) before i feel like it should be a normal thing for these things to be at least cheap ones to be available.
    Knowing smartphones are common already thus i feel like it should become a thing in the future..

    If you are coming to Prague via train, you can ask the train conductor for a day ticket for Prague public transport and it costs only 70 or 75 czk, which is about 3€. It’s valid together with your train ticket.

    Some of the information is really quite misleading... There is no "free food". You get a bottle of water and "free on-seat delivery". The food isn't expensive per se, and is quite good, but it definitely isn't complimentary. The track speed anywhere within the country is limited at 160km/h, so the 200km design speed is just a dream. The Pendolino is a nice train, but it tends to be a lot more expensive than other trains on the same route, and it is only some 20 minutes faster.

    • @NonstopEurotrip

      It IS complimentary in first class, as stated in the video.

    I believe its 6 operational, 7th car was decomissioned only 5 cars of the 7th car are operational.
    Pendolino as Supercity or category of its own seems to be immune to "Najbrt" or ČD corporate design.

    • @janv777
      @janv777 8 месяцев назад +1

      There is no standardized European plug. In the video you see the type E (F/CZ/B/SK/PL). As German/Austrian you will have the type F at home. Both are very compatible. Plugs for E+F are made nowadays as „type E+F“ to work universally. This is the most common type in Europe. There is also a Europlug or „type c“, the slim one you will know from your phone charger. It doesn’t have the earthing (Schutzleiter) and is only for lower energy appliances.

      Day by day decline?? We, the Czech republic, have grown from 9,7 million in 1998 to almost 11 million in 2024...
      And we have the highest birth rate in the EU, 1,72 kids per woman..
      There are countries suffering from population decline, but certainly not the Czech republic..

    • @loser.czsksracky3507
      @loser.czsksracky3507 8 месяцев назад

      @@viktornovomestsky3999 That is the other point that I forgot to make, the Czech Republic is not declining in overall population (entierly thanks to immigration but that doenst make youre argument not correct).
      Some countris like bulgaria, Moldova and a few more bolkan nations of which I dont know the statistics are dropping population (in the case of Bulgaria its been bleeding people since the revolution (early 90s i think)).
      So generalizing from a small-ish number of shrinking nations to the whole of europe is something i would no deem correct (like anyone cars what I think lol).
      Aaaalso i dont wanna come of like some sort of EU lover - this place has A LOT of problems but large scale pop. drop aint one of em.
