That was a bit of a rough one, thanks for showing us that things don't always go smoothly. Customer services at Megabus did a pretty good job by holding their hands up to the errors, apologising and explaining their corrective action as well as a prompt refund. But it must have been really frustrating at the time, if you hadn't been able to get on Flixbus you'd have been snookered.

Hi Scott, thanks for subjecting yourself to the hardship of travelling by coach from Edinburgh to Paris. I wonder what happened to all the other passengers who had been booked onto that Primebus service from London to Paris. Perhaps the coach businesses would like to comment on here.

Hi Scott, What a nightmare, how can a company of that size fail to communicate a full on cancellation between themselves and out to the passengers. I hope nobody got stranded because of this. They should of course automatically be offering a refund to everyone! In respect of the driver’s behaviour there are ways and means of communicating - sounds like they failed to turn up for their ‘customer service training day’ doesn’t it….rule one do not sound off at your customers!! Wow, what a shambles. That said, compelling viewing Scott, thanks for taking us along with you. Best wishes.

Citylink liveried coaches are on the london run quite often. There's even been X76 Kilmarnock- Glasgow liveried coaches on that run & the fact it had to stop to get diesel shows that it must've been a last-minute switch of coaches & it had probably done numerous trips between Glasgow & Edinburgh before it was switched onto the London run as the coach should have been filled at its depot before departing for London.

I don’t help with luggage either unless someone asks me to help them. As a driver I will always take my own health and safety seriously. If I hurt myself lifting luggage who’s going to drive that bus onwards? Who’s going to pay my rent / bills whilst I’m off sick? I also don’t know what’s in the bags, and handling baggage leaves me open to blame for something being damaged. Unfortunately that’s the world we live in nowadays. Call me selfish if you like, that’s fine, but I’m not leaving myself open to blame or potential injury.

Fantastic video. The only time I used FlixBus it was a substitute for my travel between Düsseldorf and Amsterdam. It was over 3 hours late but tex messages were sent with updates. We also had to stop for diesel which also became an impromptu smoke break for a lot of the bus which clearly was not the best idea in such an environment. I remember once using Megabus between Manchester and Newcastle which was around 3 hours late due to a major issue on the M6. Thankfully the general information desk was able to update. I was then the only passenger on the delayed coach to Leeds which rather than go to Newcastle was redirected to London. They held a Northbound coach at a services which was going to Newcastle for me and I was able to complete my journey.

The problem with stagecoach is....they make rules for the drivers...then if a passenger complains ..the company opens up a disciplinary against the driver...even though he followed the rules....the rules about luggage are a grey area.....if a driver puts his back out while loading luggage....the company attitude is tough....so a lot of drivers won't load luggage...just tell the passengers where to place their luggage in the compartment!!!

Hi Scott - your travel vlogs are always enjoyable. I recently visited the UK visited Edinburgh (a beautiful city by the way), Manchester and London and had some fun with the coaches.
Booked trains to get between the cities - Transpennine Express to Manchester and Avanti West Coast to London.
Track repairs between Edinburgh and Carlisle necessitated a coach ride to Carlisle. The coach was so-so on the comfort and I think the driver must have been a re-incarnation of Dale Earnhardt as he was almost flying down the country roads that took us to Carlisle.
As for the trip to London, ASLEF had other plans for us and fortunately I was able to book tickets on National Express (seeing their bus in the video made me think of this) for that journey. It wasn’t too bad but don’t sit in the last row (with three seats and next to the toilet) if you can avoid it.

Myself and my son went on the coastliner double-decker bus from Whitby to York on the 1st of June 2023 we had a train to go back up to teesside booked for 6:50 (the grand Central) the 3:00 oclock coastliner bus didn't turn up till 3:55 and didn't get to York train station till 6:51 it was supposed to be at York at 530 so we missed our connection by 1-minute it cost me another £20 , there and then to get a train to Newcastle (LNER)
then another £6 to get the northern back down to teesside we actually walked into the house at 10:30 it was a long day
    the coastliner views where brilliant
but we would have made it in time if the bus driver didn't have a 10-minute break when he got to Whitby 55 minutes late .

Drove for citylink and megabus...the driver should help people with their luggage...just to make life easier for the next driver...you would normally separate the luggage into destinations so you don't have to empty the compartment to find luggage.
I usually took exception to the amount of luggage as there is an actual limit...you then are supposed to pay for each item of luggage over!!!

What an interesting trip report! Thanks. To be honest, I've always thought of Megabus as more a booking platform than an actual bus service (although I know they do have their own branded buses). We booked from Aberdeen to Inverness via Megabus once. The bus turned out to be a regular No. 10 service bus, rather than a "coach". We checked with the driver if it was the Megabus. His response; "Well, it's the bus but it's not very Mega is it?"😂. However, we had just completed a 14 day coast-to-coast backpack, so it felt like travelling by luxury Rolls-Royce! Most times if I've booked through Megabus from Inverness to Edinburgh or Glasgow, it's been a Citylink service. Maybe the Megabus-branded buses are more south of the border?
I think it's a shame that Eurostar through-services have never been offered to places like Edinburgh. I'm sure that was the original plan when the service started. That would sure be the non-flying way to travel from Edinburgh to Paris!
By the way, if you haven't already done so, it would be really interesting to see a Scotland-Paris trip done using the Caley Sleeper and Eurostar, or LNER+Eurostar, with example timings, costs, etc.
    Safe travels.

Hi Scott for yet another eventful long distance coach service video of yours! I don't know how it always appears to go wrong with your trips in some way or another!😒 I've travelled extensively on varied coach trips throughout the UK and Europe over the past 30 years and haven't encountered the level of setbacks like you have.
I have been late only twice with Megabus before, for operational reasons beyond their control, but have always found their Customer Services Team to be efficient, quick to respond, apologetic and have had my fares refunded without question.
One thing to note, which I have said on another of your videos, but maybe you haven't noticed it, that Megabus is now owned by Scottish Citylink Group. This occurred last year when Stagecoach was bought out in a protracted sale. Ultimately, one Term within the sale was that the Megabus division had to be sold off and Citylink stepped in to buy it.
Thus it is perfectly feasible that Megabus services may include use of Citylink vehicles, such as you travelled on but also, as Megabus doesn't operate many vehicles of their own, but instead have used partner coach operators to operate their routes throughout the UK, just as Flixbus are doing too on their expanding UK Network, you may not necessarily have a Megabus liveried vehicle for travel.

I used to load my fold up bike into the luggage compartment on the coach and press the manual close button myself just by the luggage hood. Hey…. Who wants their bike on show while you queue to get on. Once the driver moaned that I closed the luggage door myself. Such a 5 star service. Except they are shooting stars because they are not there any more 😂

I did this journey many many times. Never was the luggage compartment shut before people fully loaded their things. Mainly because I was not daft enough to do so and if anyone else had something to load it would be clear because we were loading at the same time, then we joined the back of the queue.
For anyone who wishes to be pedantic, I do not apologise for trying to be useful which causes the need for me to be bollocked!

I always love your coach trips over all the others you do , not that the others are also always so good and interesting. Seems like you were let down . Wonder what happened to the other passengers?

If you try prime bus again they are running the Paris service again and now run by a UK coach operator on behalf of Megabus. Went on it a few weeks ago and it was operated by an ex Megabus Europe coach

Gee Scott, you really do find them! Great follow-up and I think a very reasonable response from Megabus ... would be interesting to know whether they "came good" with their "refund in 3-5days" commitment also whether this same Megabus/Primebus fisaco played out in the following days (though I guess we'll never know the answer to that one!)

Did the driver on the citylink coach to London remove all passengers before fueling up. If not he broke the law !!!!. As an ex tanker driver and previously bus driver ( many moons ago) I love watching your blogs.thanks. Dave F.

10:54 Nah... not actually that difficult. Access is nice and wide both sides; very forgiving. Judging it in a bus with a trailer might be tricky first time though.
Also, as a general tip for people travelling on "Le Shuttle": in the two-level "car" carriages, the toilets are under the stairs which connect the two levels. In these bus/RV carriages there is only a toilet in the first carriage behind the loco. You have to walk all the way to the front if you want to use it.
As far as I know this not mentioned anywhere in the documentation the general public has access to.
Edit: 11:37 Now that's a typically French announcement. I speak French fairly fluently as a second language and I only got "Paris Bercy" (the destination) "vos affaires" (your belongings) and "s'il vous plait" (please). The French think they're so cool they don't even need to pronounce their own language.

About transport being awkward reminds me of the time I booked a return to Pwllheli in North Wales but the return train was cancelled for some reason and so I had to catch the next train but because my return ticket was on the cancelled train the guard expected me to pay again for my return ticket or I would have been put off at the next stop and being a disabled person this wouldn't been an option, I refused to get off and so he reported me to the security at Shrewsbury.

You should do a video based on "I asked for help"..for instance you know where your going and how to get there but ask for help and see how many send you in the opposite direction. You'd be surprised how unhelpful some people can be and take secret delight in sending people in the wrong direction. Happened to me several times.

Old video but may help, I asked for help with a coach (Megabus) after 6pm via Metroline, I then found out Megabus is run/partnered with city link, that is the after hours number . But the call was unanswered so didn't make a difference as such...
But if in West Yorkshire call Metroline. A few will try help, others not.
Hint: ask for the Scots man.

Hey! you should try london to amsterdam, it is a weird route than other routes. For example, london to paris is operated by french flix buses and london to belgium is operated by belgium buses or french buses but london to amsterdam is operated by polish buses? It is strange but you should try it as it is weird last time i tried it (august 2022)

The 900 branded coach is the exact same make, model and capacity used on the Scotland to England Megabus services with the only actual difference being the livery and seat moquette, not legroom like you seemed to think.
