Hola. Gracias.
Learning CW? Great....welcome to the real world of ham radio. QRP/CW will increase your Q rate. As for your little antenna, very nice for SWL'g. Barry, KU3X/QRP
It is noisy, it's an SDR, the FT-818 audio is far better for listening to weak signals, it's so quiet that the signals seem to come out of nowhere. Can't beat that analogue design for sheer audio quality, one reason Yaesu Stuck to traditional superhet in a hybrid for their flagship 101 and FTDX-10 and just use SDR for the waterfall end of things. Now, the FT-818 has a far better speaker but that has nothing to do with it being a quieter receiver, it just adds to the overall sound quality. Listen to the Kiwi SDR, one with a half decent antenna in a quiet area and it's the same harsh audio but the key difference is the kiwi gives access to AGC, so adjust the threshold up, you'll see the white bar go up along the s-meter, turn this up until the background noise gets a lot quieter but you can still hear the signals. Expensive SDRs like the SUN SDR and Anan allow full access to AGC and this makes a huge difference without the constant need for crappy noise reduction. The Icom IC-7300 is the same, crappy noisy audio even with headphones. The 705 is supposed to have better audio even through headphones but I've heard the FT-818 audio is still better.

Hi Barry Many Thanks
do you like this radio? what about all the bugs everyone is talking about?
Yes they need sorting but as a HF sdt radio ATU works well .
Seems awful noisy especially for using a small antenna like that
External speakers very cheap
