    One thing missing on here.
    It doesn't work!!!
    Place that tracker away from your phone and it wont be detected by other Android devices on FMD.
    This is because FMD is not ready yet and everyone is now complaining that these things are just local Bluetooth trackers right now like a tile.
    I have two in the UK and can confirm this to be the case, at least here and from what i see in all the forums the same in the US and Canada.
    I'm happy to wait for FMD (Find My Device) network to kick in but wish i knew this before purchasing one.
    This is something Chipolo and other RUclips videos don't seem to be talking about for some reason

    • @ampalaeo
      @ampalaeo 2 месяца назад +2

      I observed that FMD is not preinstalled on android phones like Samsung, at least the one I have (a34). That's the first problem if you are expecting to find your tag from other phones.
      The second problem is that when I manually installed it, the default option was to share the location of the tracker only in crowded places so if you lose your keys somewhere else you want find them.
      I think Google should create an update for Android devices with FMD preinstalled and with default option to share the location if your phone is the only phone close to someone's tag. Else the tag will just work as the previous tags

    I lost my wallet with Chipolo card, and thought it was in Paris. I had four tags. Two were near me including wallet (one which was under my seat on plane). The Pebblebee card is 37.5% thicker that the Chipolo card. That makes sense because they need space for the usb-c charger, but it's still nice to have a thinner card for small wallets like the Secrid.

    I hope Google can successfully and strongly rival Apple's dominance in this field. Airtags are expensive.

      No infortunately, it comes preinstalled with recent phone but even there I don't think it's enabled by default. You have to explicitely opt-in to the network.
      Hopefully as those trackers get more popular more people will enable it, and the best would be if Google makes it opt-out instead of opt-in.

    I know I'm nit-picking here, but it was driving me crazy to hear you refer to the new feature as Android "Find My". From the research I've done, eagerly awaiting these devices, it is clear that Google is branding their feature "Find My Device", to give a little distinction from Apple.

    • @TrackThisNThat
      @TrackThisNThat  2 месяца назад +1

      Yes you are correct, I've been doing "Apple" Find My stuff for the longest time so its going to take a while for me remember to say Find My Device. Plus the app is called Google Find My Device with a short display name of Find Device and a logo on products with works with Android Find My Device. All of those don't help. lol

    I think you misunderstand the settings a bit when you explain them at 5:10. The setting with or without high-traffic area is not about your tag, it's about the phone. When the phone will share the location. That is to protect you from being followed. So if someone puts a tag on you, and your phone is the only android device around, or there are 2-3 more, like if you drive home or so on, your phone will not transmit the location of the tag, and the tag's location will be transmitted only if you are in a location with for example 10 more devices around you, like a public place. So this is not at all a setting for the tag, the tag itself will be trying to transmit as much as possible always, but the setting is when your phone will allow tags around to transmit trough your phone. So that's an important distinction. Otherwise thank you for the review! :)

    • @ampalaeo
      @ampalaeo 2 месяца назад

      Nice thought. But you are protected even in that case because you will receive a smartphone notification that you are being tracked and you have the option to make chipolo sound and find it

    • @kanovski
      @kanovski 2 месяца назад +1

      @@ampalaeo Yes, I understand the notification, but that's not the point I am making. I am talking about the setting he shows at 5:10. He makes it sound like this setting is referring to the tag's policy of operation, when actually this is a setting referring to the phone's policy of operation, and not the tag. There is a significant difference.

    I am thinking of preordering one of these to put on my cat´s collar.... they use the airtags on cat collars too so would this one also work?
    We live in a city so lots of traffic and mainly would be used as a "just in case" for when we go for a walk in the park and he would tor some reason manage to get away.
    He is also micro chipped and has a tag on his collar with his name and my phone number. But he is a sphynx breed so not all people who would find him might be as honest and return him to me. So it would be a extra failsafe to find him again quickly if anything like that would happen... any thoughts would be appreciated 😊

    • @TrackThisNThat
      @TrackThisNThat  2 месяца назад

      It seems you understand what bluetooth trackers are and what they are not. However I will always recommend a Pet GPS tracker with cellular communication first and then add an bluetooth tracker just in case. FYI, the same un honest people will remove/disable/throwaway any tracking device so finding your pet the fastest via a Pet GPS tracker before those people find your pet is well worth the cost and time to maintain them, if that's truly something you're worried about.

      @TrackThisNThat  3 месяца назад +1

      No QR code or separation alerts 11:55, and as of right no I can't find a way for android users to get it back either - 10:50 beside obviously the owner finding you via location data.

    • @hakdaddy
      @hakdaddy 3 месяца назад

      Wow... That's concerning. I'm all in on tile atm and pay for premium subscription. Got 5 tiles for keys, wallet, ID pass, rucksack and travel pass, use their stickers with QR codes to add to my laptop and gym water bottles. Separation alerts and QR codes are deal breakers for me. I've ordered a chipolo to test but at very least it needs a QR code on the back. I've read the Eufy ones should have a QR code when they drop in June so fingers crossed they do

    • @TrackThisNThat
      @TrackThisNThat  3 месяца назад

      I'm more concerned about Google Find Device app not having a way yet for people who physically finds a tracker and the left behind feature. Simply cause the QR code can be added by the user to any tracker very easily. Sure it might not be as user friendly as Tile's but your own QR code will get the job done. Ive also easily make copies of the Tile sticker QR code to place on addtional accessories. Of course, only their's work in the app to set it up, but you can still make copies of the orginal after the setup.

    • @hakdaddy
      @hakdaddy 2 месяца назад +1

      @@TrackThisNThat left behind is the same as separation alerts. On Tile premium, once your device breaks ties with tracker it will let you know. So if you leave something at home which I've done many times when I'm out of range it will tell me I left my ID pass at home for example and I'll go back. Often we don't realise we have lost something until hours later and then it's difficult to find. A notification pretty much straight away has been super helpful. At the moment for me this can't replace tile. If I'm having to stick the tile sticker QR codes on the back of things because these new tracks don't have them, then it defeats the purpose for me. Google had a year delay on this launch and between them and their partners couldn't get it write. These clowns haven't even rolled out the network internationally yet, I'm still waiting for it in the UK 🙄

    • @TrackThisNThat
      @TrackThisNThat  2 месяца назад

      Yes, I agree the "left-behind" feature (separation alert) is a must-have. Every brand calls it something different. The old separation alert actually involved a disconnection of the Bluetooth but it caused a lot of false alarms. Today's separation feature uses much more, including algorithms, to ensure you actually left something behind. I'm sure Google is working on it, as it took Apple some time to bring that feature to Find My/AirTags as well. I've been using and reviewing Tiles since 2013-14 and I've always found Tile to have the furthest notification distance of any tracker with that feature. Don't get me wrong, the alert wasn't very far, but it was the farthest when compared to others with the same feature. Plus, Tile charges for it while no other brand makes their customers pay for that feature. Tiles are great, but unless they start working with Google Find My Device like they teased, they are going to lose even more market share.

      BTW: I forgot to mention don't go into any of the addtional information screens during the setup. Google needs to fix that as it stops the setup but the tracker (I'm assuming) thinks its waiting on the app to finish but never does. I had to do a hard reset on reset on the tracker to stop the process, reboot the phone, and then start over without going into the information screens. You can read the infomation screens after the setup just not during. Here's how to reset the tracker - support.chipolo.net/hc/en-us/articles/360019994757-Chipolo-ONE-Spot-instruction-manual-English?aff=Mdfm (about half way down. works on both models) I hope that helps.
