I'm so surprised you hated the driving dynamics. You liked the ATS right? Is it that different? Most other reviewers seemed to place this above BMW 3 series for handling and steering
I'm actually glad they made this "mistake", because the CT4 is actually closer to a 3 series in size than a 2, and likewise the CT5 is 5 series sized. Cadillac is marketing them both a size class down in a "get more for your buck" type of comparison
@@IsaacReddinger It definitely does. Completely different segments. This is the entry level Cadillac. The cheapest car you can buy from the brand. It’s the same reason we don’t compare Mercedes A-class to BMW’s 5 -series. Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Cadillac are the only manufacturers that compete in this segment. A3, A-class, 2-series, and CT4.
I have a really curious comparison to bring up, guys. While this video really compares the size and layout of this car to the 3 Series and the G70 and others in that class, would this CT4 be more correctly compared to the 2 Series Gran Coupe, the CLA, and the A3/S3? While I understand those are all FWD or front-biased AWD, I feel like this is much more closely related to those cars rather than the larger ones discussed here. Don't get me wrong, all the shortcomings of the design and the use of the car still apply - Caddy could have done so much better with this, because they actually DID in the ATS - but I feel like this car actually competes more with those than it does with the larger cars. As always - love the content and the work you guys put in. Been a fan for years and I love the honesty of both of you. Cheers!
Great CPO buy after someone has done a 2 or 3 year lease - as long as your local dealer is worth a damn on warranty work. You guys are the first I've seen to get to review the CT4 Premium Luxury trim level - seems that GM has been pushing the V-series out hardest to reviewers. I can see a possible argument for this car with the right options if you are someone who just wants to commute in it. But yes it does get stupid expensive for what it is very quickly. Your point about "If it was a Chevy we'd be excited" is well taken. I argue that if GM was saying this was the new Malibu or a new Chevelle and it maxed out under $40K, everyone would be singing it's praises from the rooftops. At this point any Cadillac Sedan buyers likely got a screaming deal and/or don't care what badge is on the hood. (Or they have Blackwing money.)

Then Cadillac discontinued CT6 The Best Car They’ve Ever Built! Wtf is wrong with GM These days?? And The Blazer should compete with Bronco, Wrangler & 4Runner.
I don't understand how you give a fwd based "luxury" car in the TLX praise and then damn Cadillac. I mean at least the CT4 is rwd and not an Accord with awd for twice the price. I think both the new TLX and the CT4 are not close to the best work its respective automaker is capable of. I don't understand why we can't have this level of honesty in all these test drive reviews. Thanks guys. I think the CTS-V Blackwing solves most of your issues; except size and technology; however, as much as I "asked" for a high performance sedan/wagon with a manual transmission, I don't think my answer meant I wanted to spend $55k in the Blackwing version...oh well,
Bean counters have worked their way into supervising the design and production of cars at GM again. Busted the price and cut the value of what you get.
“That’s how far engines have come”, yes in America indeed. In Europe engines of this size (2.7) are deemed large. Mercedes makes 2.0 4-cyl engines with almost 400bhp, other European brands (BMW, Volvo eg) have 1.5/1.6 3/4-cel engines with 200+ bhp.
We never claimed this was the pinnacle of engine capability or tech. And we’ve driven and reviewed cars with many of the engines you’re discussing. Thanks for watching.
The issue with the Ct4V is that the 2.7 engine was taken from the Silverado, its not a an engine design for a sports sedan. For $50k this is unacceptable. The base engine should have been the 2.0T from the Camaro, 3.0 V6 Turbo for the V and a LS V8 for the Blackwing.

Also there is the CT5 for people who want more backseat space. You didn't make such a big deal out of the TLX rear seat space (and Acura doesn't offer a bigger alternative) and user interface. I guess it's just cool / hip / trendy to hate on american brands. And I am not even from america and my favourite brands are asian but your bias / this unfair treatment is ridiculous.
I have a big problem with 4 cylinder engines in luxury cars. Just because engines get smaller doesn't mean automakers have to cheap out. BMW could make a 2L inline six, they did it in the 70's. Mazda made a 1.8L V6. That's smaller than the current miata engine. And if packaging is really the concern, what if Cadillac had made a 2.7L turbo 5? At least it would sound better. The V8 doesn't have to die. It just has to be available with smaller pistons. 2.8L V8, anyone?
Appealing idea isn't it? Unfortunately, the fewer cylinders an engine has, the more thermally efficient it is and the less friction it has to combat. So we're stuck with the move to fewer cylinders as well as decreased capacity. Of course we wiil be fully electric in the not-too-distant future.
Just slap the 5.3 V8 out of the truck line in the car. The tooling has been paid for since the George W. Bush admin, it can't be more expensive to build that that 2.7 turbo 4.
You're right! I don't care how much power a turbo 4 makes. It just doesn't belong in a luxury car No 4yl turbo sounds refined . Not even the Germans. I would never buy one. This is not Europe where gas is expensive. If you want to make it available, fine, just give me a 6 or 8 NA engine . I don't care if the trend is towards 4cyl turbos.
CT4V should start at 35k, fully loaded it should top out at 45k. Cadillac just priced it badly, considering how much of the car is straight from a parts bin, that price goal should have been achievable. For 45K I'd much rather some other options, such as the A35AMG, Golf R, Audi S3, BMW 330i, M235i GC etc.... plenty of stiff competition in that category.
This video is total bs. PROOF watch some real tests: www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison-test/a34304375/2020-bmw-m235i-gran-coupe-vs-cadillac-ct4-v-mercedes-amg-a35/
This is an odd comparison - The CT4 is a mid-size RWD based sedan, the other two in that Car and Driver test are FWD bias AWD compacts. This CT4 vs the G70, Alfa Giulia, BMW 3 series - those are its real competition - and it can't compete. But thanks for watching!
@@TestDriveVideos CT4 is closer to a compact than a midsize to be honest, same with the ATS, as for drivetrain, it somewhat compares as performance figures are about the same, along with interior dimensions and pricepoint. I really like the CT4V, its on my shortlist to replace my RWD BMW F30 (not for 50+K though, i'm sure they will get heavily incentivized), are you guys going to drive it (in RWD form of course, not the "i dont know how to drive awd" vesion) ? I think it might have enough to round out the performance\handling capabilities to make it a serious contender, such as better transmission programming, LSD, a few extra ponies, magnetic shocks etc.
Yeah, Its obvious. These guys were ready to savage this CT4 immediately. And it was a turn-off. NO car is perfect, and yes I have a few nits to pick with my CT4. But overall I love it. My previous MBZs and BMWs had shortcomings too. Despite you guys who think they're 10000% superior to Cadillac. THEY AREN'T!!!
@@TestDriveVideosGenesis has NO pedigree because it was "created" by a budget carmaker. Just like that. Hyundai reverse-engineered all the existing luxury cars to take what's best of each, then built a composite car that "does everything well", but with NO soul. It's so bland. Just like boring Lexus. Even 35 years on.
This is one of the worst reviews of this car. It was literally a nitpick roasting session. Since when was redundancy of controls a horrible thing? With people, come preferences. Having more than one way to control HVAC, infotainment system, or volume is what makes an interior intuitive and easy to use across a wide range of customers. You don’t have to toggle between each and every way users can possibly interact with the infotainment system, or change the volume using a different control each time you change it, you would SIMPLY interact with the vehicle in whatever way is easiest for _you._ Whether rotary dial or touchscreen. Perhaps you two are confused because you aren’t very familiar with the market or the segment the CT4 actually competes in. The review was very disappointing. Didn’t provide much information about the car, just complained and illogically attacked the car for majority of the review. Smh
@@Striker50_ Lol. This is a entry level Sport sedan starting at $34k. Comparably equipped competitors cost more and offer less. The reviewers were mediocre, not the car. You don’t have to travel elsewhere in order to be lied to, especially when you’ll be lied to *right here.* The CT4 is worlds better than the ATS it replaces but it isn’t a direct replacement to it’s predecessor like the reviewers are incorrectly suggesting, which is the reason it doesn’t share opponents with the ATS. For anyone to claim otherwise only proves their own ignorance. This review was indecisive, contradicting and asinine. But GM haters *flock* to stuff like this, so I understand...I guess. Smh. 😂
We've driven most of the current sports sedans in the last two years. No car is perfect and all have their pros and cons. Having said that, the Genesis G70, Kia Stinger, Alfa Giulia, BMW 3 series, and Mercedes CLA can all be equipped and priced similarly to this CT4 and are all better to drive and interact with. There are other competitors that aren't as good as the CT4. We've given GM plenty of love when appropriate, but we understand that many will not like this review. Thanks for watching anyway.
@@TestDriveVideos Your alleged love, or lack thereof, for GM is *not* my concern. I’m suggesting you provide your viewers with FACTS instead of disinformation so that _they_ can determine what’s “better” for them regardless of the vehicle you’re reviewing or the company who built it. That’s the point I’m making. The Cadillac CT4 doesn’t compete against the Genesis G70, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Bmw 330i, or Mercedes-Benz C-class. Compared to the ATS, this vehicle is leaps and bounds ahead mechanically, in terms of refinement, technology, and luxury. The intuitiveness of the interior and overall material and build quality has greatly improved. This review just was not accurate to the facts.
@@mybro727 Not sure why you're a GM fanboy, they don't make anything special nor reliable. CT4 is a direct competitor to 330i, G70, etc. It's the same size and engine as others so that is it's class. You can't just pick and choose what you choose to identify as
Yikes!!! Oh man, would I hate to be the person who owns this car and then stumbled across this review. Holy smokes! Did you actually test drive any of the competition, or were you just hung up on the Cadillac badge to impress the neighbors? It’s sad that Cadillac has lost its way for a while, but we all know that they can, and will do better in the future. Perhaps, in the meantime, they should change their slogan from, “The Standard of the World”, because clearly that is far from the truth.
The video starts with an incorrect premise and goes down from there. The CT4 is aimed at the 2 series, CLA, A3 and the like, not the 3 series, Gulia etc. And if you're going to compare the Genesis as a 'Hyundai' to Cadillac, I offer to you Chevrolet. Who complains about having conveniently located volume knobs, every other review praises this as making it easier to adjust. Then you go on to admit you have no taste and follow that up with no liking the styling; self-aware much? The criticisms about bad quality, short seats, crappy sounding 4-cylinder (yes, the sound is piped in), and lack of sunroof at this price point are all valid points. Oh and the V, it's been re-branded and now replaces the V-series. You should know that from having read the pages of press release you mentioned at the start of the video.
You guys are way in the minority about Cadillac. 90% of other car reviewers say its a better chassis than the Germans and a better deal. Get with it.

@@JuanLopez-kw9of An E-Class Mercedes has a 2l 4cyl as standard. Is the E-Class not a luxury car?
@@TestDriveVideosI think it does complete. I'm satisfied with my CT4, and I've owned MBZs and BMWs.
3 velum knob is amazing you control yours wife or friends control there Owen babes touch 3red one an all the other buttons its perfect lol
Not sure, if I get this right. So, you don’t like the Cadillac? 😂
The Genesis is JUNK! What are you talking about??
We hope you’ve driven the Genesis G70. The Korean car makers have come a long way in the past few years.
Might as well put a Chevy badge on it
But it’s not 50k? 33k
The Cimarron of 2021.
Listening to Todd critique sedans is life! 😂
No. Its just pure hate. Sorry.
Smh
Cadillac is extremelyy overpriced and makes a mediocre product. Want to be lied to, go watch other reviews
@@Striker50_ Lol. This is a entry level Sport sedan starting at $34k. Comparably equipped competitors cost more and offer less. The reviewers were mediocre, not the car. You don’t have to travel elsewhere in order to be lied to, especially when you’ll be lied to *right here.*
The CT4 is worlds better than the ATS it replaces but it isn’t a direct replacement to it’s predecessor like the reviewers are incorrectly suggesting, which is the reason it doesn’t share opponents with the ATS.
You can't just pick and choose what you choose to identify as
Thats the Cadillac of rolls royce 😂
Why are you even doing a review if you hate it so much?
Dumb and dumber do a review.
Four cylinder low end truck Silverado engine and a back that makes hunchback of Notredame look handsome. What is not to hate?
There is a time for comedy. And you are? ....
Lol…wife loves our 350t sport. After watching these two I’d have to agree with my wife! These two sissies cinched it!
Ouch
First I was angry. Then I got sad. Afterwards I mourned. Now I have accepted made in America has become something to avoid. Talking Automotive.
