Today I wanted to try something that I have seen on the internet. You can turn your floating duck decoys into full body decoys. This makes it easy to use the floating duck decoys on land when duck hunting. All you need to do this is some paper towel holders and they will hold the decoys up!

Outdoor Limits you should come up to Minnesota for a hunt with us. We’re at 126 ducks and geese for the 3 week early season and 2 week regular season so far. Re opener is this weekend. Make it up here for a hunt sometime and we can make something work. Hit me up on instagram at @luke.martin2
Hey just cut the ring off and stick the stakes in the ground. No wind worries or uneven ground, plus you can stack them
I would like to see you use those decoys as a challenge and only hunt with those decoys in the field!!
You do it so you don't have to buy field decoys so of course people are gonna use them and them only we did last year and it works great nothing different from regular field standers
I live for these videos, so creative, I swear Waterfowl hunters are the most creative of all!! We find problems and we find ways around them!
RIP to your grass lol😂 but I love this idea! Going to do it myself!
All I can say is creativity can take you anywhere! That is so cool! Thank you for this tip!
Paper towel holders here I come😁😀
Agree they look a little easy to tip but AMAZING idea to turn floaters into a double duty field and water decoy! Can’t wait to see results from your hunt with them! Thanks for sharing the idea!
Simple, Cheap, and Effective. Great idea! Cool video man!
Great idea for this shot up decoys! Thanks for posting this idea Josh!
This is awesome, I had heard of people doing things for floaters in a field, but can't say I had seen this method. These would be great to take out with you on those cold days on the water, just in case you have to end up hunting an ice hole and want some full bodies on the ice.
I think I may have painted at least part of it orange, just for visibility sake in a dark field.
After watching this I ran out and bought a paper towel holder to test for myself. Works great, will be going back for more! For you all who are sceptical of how well they balance, I had a DOA on it and had no issues. Thanks for the tip!
I like it, been thinking how to use as land deeks my self.
Love the videos... I’m literally gonna do this when I get done with school today
I was always curious if this would work thanks for making a vid!
I was just looking this up yesterday!
If you put them all in the bottom way through the hole I got 10 of the bent stands to stack pretty easily. Thanks for the great idea they seem to work pretty well. Can’t wait to use them in the field this weekend. Also keep up the good work. I love watching your videos
I love getting a notification when you upload a vid
I took some of the orange insulation from a heavy-duty extension cord and slid them onto each side to simulate legs.
I used this trick the other day after seeing a bunch of mallard’s landing in a wheat field worked great!
Nice tip keep them coming, hope to see your video of your Nebraska hunt.
Hey man I watch all your vids and this one I really appreciate you making, keep making videos man I like them
I have use these same Paper Towel holders from the dollar store and they are just the right way to go for converting floaters into field decoys.
I made a simple jig to use on work bench and put extra bend in my stands. Those held up to air pressure at full strength from electric TORO leaf blower at 6 ft, but tipped at 4 ft. Who hunts in that kinda wind? But in any case, you are using floaters with cords and weights you can string out the weight a couple of feet ahead of decoys to stabilize it if needed.
Get a 24 in. Insulation Support (100-Pack) and bend em up around the keel then leave the rods straight so you can stick them into the ground! Wont fall in heavy wind.
Works great I use them with goose floaters on the ice also haven’t had any tip over in the wind either
Wow that’s actually so smart why didn’t I think of that
Thanks great vid
Gonna try it for sure
Love these videos!!!
man that is awesome. I'm gonna try this for sure!
Great idea!! I love it
Do a video of you hunting with them
Dude you are the best!!! I am a waterfowl hunter on a budget. I'm gonna try Geese as well. Thanks
You just saved me alot of money. You do awesome videos keep up the good work
It's a great idea for the ones with pin holes in them that take on water.
Great idea thanks for sharing. Keep up the good videos.
Over 10 years ago I use short tent poles and coat hangers to do the same thing work pretty well and turns into the wind👍
I think you just started something, great idea!
This is a great idea and I am going to do something similarly. Only differences I will do is paint the “legs” orange and not black. And also use a garden U/tent stake to secure it on windy days
You should take a youth out duck hunting for youth season here in a couple weeks! 👍 that would make for
a great video!
That's awesome I'm doing that now
I love ur videos and this is a great idea can’t wait for the next vid
Can't wait to see these in action
You should definitely go hunt in north eastern north dakota.
I’ve made these with basics metal I got from Home Depot for Canada floaters. Not as sturdy since I don’t have a base but saved me from buying full bodies for if I ever need it. 3$ a bar for metal 48” long and I just bended em all myself for half a dozen.
Next time I go to the dollar store I'm going to try this out. Appreciate the tips on this. Helped a buddy make a video the other day @DIYOutdoosman - How to Flock Duck Decoys. Would love to get your thoughts and maybe and extra tips/tricks you might have. Hope all is well man!
Great idea. Totally stealing this. Tent stakes should keep it upright in the wind.
Spray painting right on the grass...nice
Most genius idea ever!
You just earned a sub...great idea man
Bend the bottom part of the uprights that hook to the round bottom back so the decoy balances, then level the part the decoy sits in. Simple. Also can spray bottom uprights duck feet orange.
Guessing you thought of the idea by looking at the paper towel holder on your counter. Lol. Awesome video man
We get small pvc pipe cut them like 3 inches long paint them orange drill two holes in the bottom of some old decoys and then get some small rope tie a knot in one end and then use a screw diver to poke the first knot threw the hole u drilled and then slide the 3 inch pvc onto the rope tie a knot on the other end and they dangle with the wind looking like there feet are moving. But the paper towel holder is something I never thought of we always cut the keel off and used a single stake. I’ll be getting some lol
what was your thought process to make the base black instead of orange?
You could also put dirt over the circle base and step it down to pack it and it would hold well in the wind
Used the same idea to bend metal rods which do not fall over because it is pushed into the ground, but it was a lot more work! Because they rusted i did not have to paint, but your idea is more expensive but a whole bunch faster to do!!! I would like to know how to get ahold of you to take you out in my area of Kansas
If they won’t stay up in high wind you can always cut the base ring off and just stick the exposed two prongs in the ground! Good video just now seeing this definitely doing this
Great idea
I cut a slit down the back lengthwise of a 1 1/2 x 3/4 pvc tee and slide it over the keel. Then I put an 8” piece of 3/4 pvc in the tee and stab it in the ground. Rock solid and goes on and off very easily.
This is GENIUS!!! New Sub...
YES
Maybe you should try painting the bases orange? Idk how that would look over the chrome but it might be worth a try
or at least the top of the bases
Great vid
Great video
If needed & grounds not too frozen you could hold them down with a tent stake👍
PRETTY BADASS
Love the videos
Have you tried them out hunting, if so did they work? I have some floaters I want to try this with. I've also heard of people just setting the floater on the ground, do you think that would work as well?
I bet the plastic dip would be awesome coding it's like 14 bucks for a gallon
Was gonna say the same thing, non slip and more durable
If you cut the outer circle and bend them down they work as stakes in the ground
I’m just curious what would some floater full body geese look like and how stable it would be. I hunt over water most of the time but I also hunt a field for geese, just started field hunting this early goose season. I live in Arkansas and I mainly hunt lake Dardanelle and do pretty well. I will l definitely try out this method. Love the idea videos and all of your other videos. 👍👊
For geese floaters I just set them on the ground and balance them on the keel. They look like a shell when sitting there
That’s not a bad idea but if you only hunt fields a few times a year I would get a couple dozen silhouettes theyre pretty inexpensive and look good
Gary Miller check out the company BB waterfowl they sell pre made floater stakes for duck and goose decoys. They aren’t very expensive and I’ve meet the guys in person and they are genuine and nice.
@@masonmartell4438 they are 4 times the price.
Can this work in rice fields and bean fields as well?
About to be a run on paper towel holders
Tack weld some round stock to the bottom for weight
Ok I’m doing this. I think it’s a great idea BUT what about goose floaters?
How well did they work?
You could add a 2.5 or 5lb weight to the base to add structural support.
Freaking awesome
how did they do this season?
What was her idea? How did the hunt go in Nebraska?
Make a tour of your house video
Use a small bungee to keep them from sliding out.
You should see if geese decoys would work
Did you try it with your geese floaters?
I think making them stake down into the ground is your best bet.
You could get stakes to hold them down to
I posted that before you said you would put stakes down my bad
What about having movement?
Magnums looks a little more steady. Only down fall is u can’t do like 8 doz of them bcuz u won’t have any feeders.
Make a video doing this with geese floaters
i would have use spray on bed liner
How can I get a hoodie
Check out BB waterfowl!!! They make stakes for goose and duck decoys to change your floater decoys into field decoys!!
not for this cheap though!
True true😂 love the channel man! Keep up the great work!
Spend another 10 dollars on tent stakes and no wind will knock that over 👌
Thank you for this well make my life easier with the wife to be able to do this sport and not brake the bank
Use a vise and squeeze
Use a big carabeaner so you can just walk around and snap them together
Check out BBwaterfowl. Their duck feet turn floaters into full bodies. Patiented and super affordable! I think $24 for 6 stands. Made in usa also! 🇺🇸
You could also just cut the base off, and then you have two posts to just stick into the ground.
Thomas Freundl then it would ruin the floater side of it because this way it would still work as a floater
@@jaceskeem6480 no it wouldn't. Do the same thing he did, but cut the round base off leaving just the bottom of the rods and stick that in the ground.
If you did that you could also paint the metal orange so it looks more realistic
I completely read that wrong I thought you meant the thing on the bottom of the decoy not the steak
What kinda silly ass name is that your friend has? Blake? You mean Buh-lak-aye? 😂 but for real that was an awesome tip I'm for sure gonna do that next season!!
Dont forget the 50ft mojo pole...zip tie to the tallest and skinniest tree you can find and let er rip.
Did you steal this from my channel???😂😂
