A good app to use is the ducks unlimited app. They have a waterfowl Id page. Ranges from puddle duck to divers and geese. It's also plays the sounds they make. Good tool for beginners
12 days away here in East TN and I’m beyond ready. I switched to the Tx rig set up a couple years ago and absolutely love it, quick getting them out and easy pick up. I have a dozen in a slotted bag with long lines for if the river is up at the time. Sorry for the long comment but I love seeing everyone getting the duck fever and hope everyone has a safe hunt + limit out!
Get you some 1/2" to 3/4" pvc pipe and cut to the length of your line, but a shy bit shorter. you run your lines through the pipe, I use and old metal wire like a clothes hanger with a hook bent on the end, and pull your cables through the pipe and hook your carabiner in the loops on the other end. helps to avoid the knots and keeps them from tangling and easier to tote and handle. If you use around 3/4" pvc, you can easily fit a dozen and half together.
Alright, old video, I know, but dude. Love listening to these videos. I get more realistic surround sound out of your videos than literally anything I've listened to. Like you're in my stinking room on this setup. Oh and great video. Thank you.
Nice Texas rigs! I like to have the decoy slide instead of the weight sliding. It keeps your loop next to the decoy and makes pickup easier! Use bank sinkers instead of the egg sinkers and crimp them to the end.
I run j weights on a bungee with braided decoy cord and put them each in slotted bags. Keeps the paint nice. I tried Texas rigs one year and my decoys got all beat up and tangled up even with vinyl coated steel cable. I also had issues with mushroom weights not grabbing the river bottom and lost half a dozen decoys that season.
The double sleeves and the line can be found on line at the Mason fishing equipment company along with a crimping tool, I simply use a big vise grip. Look up sinker molds on line too. I cast all my own fishing weights and a bag of shot lasts forever, they are 25 pounds. I don't exactly use the Texas rig, I came up with my own rig after decades of hunting. I'm able to adjust instantly to pond depth and they never tangle.
Hey Bobby I don't know if you have an Academy Sports in your area, but they have these decoy totes that hold way more decoys than a regular bag. I have two and they hold up way longer as well. They also are square and store great in boats.
We now use a hammer man instead of a crimper tool. We have used both but the hammer is a faster way to go We also put the loop on the decoy end instead of being on the weight end. That way when it’s cold if you don’t have decoy gloves your hands stay a lot dryer cause you just pick up the decoy by the head and the loop is right there just a thought for the guys making T rigs at home
Awesome video! I know that this video will help out new beginners a ton! You have a lot of good truthful info and I'm sure it will help a lot of beginners like we all used to be at one point!
I put 2 oz weights on my they hold a duck decoys just fine if the winds blowing real hard I walk out there and stomp the weight in the mud and the cramps I just put it on a piece of wood and hit it with a hammer
I make my own Texas rigs I can make them as long as you want with as much weight as you want, I made 11 footers for Lake Erie with 10oz, I would definitely recommend going on to Rogers and buying the Rig Em’ Right DIY Kit, they make 3dz lines up to 8ft but you just have to buy weights and the kit is $30 the weights are the expensive part
Most expensive item and hardest to get are the lead weights. Besides that the rest is very easy to get from Amazon. I was able to make 10 dozen Texas Riggs with 4oz to 6oz sinkers for 70$. I also use a pair of pliers to crimp the clamp down no special tool needed
@@nickdobson6369 yep i ordered all the 400lb mono line and crimps from Amazon the brand is catch-all tackle. The snap swivels were also from Amazon they were just a generic one that are a little more robust then Bobby got they are easier to attach to decoys. And I found a local guy in New Orleans who smelts lead sinkers I got 5 dozen 4oz and 5 dozen 6oz from him that I picked up from him. There are a ton of videos on RUclips how to make them and are actually easy to do. I made all my own then bought enough to do another 15-20 dozen to sell on La sportsman for 20$ a dozen but it never actually took off like I thought it would. So I hooked my hunting buddies up with all custom Texas Riggs for free .
@@nickdobson6369 baton rouge, it's only 2 hours away. It was hard to find a good price on them that's why I drove down to get them from the guy he actually has a website called Seabrookfishingsinkers.com he will deliver across the country and runs discount codes also. I think I used a discount code for 15% off and since I drove to him to get them he knocked an extra 20$ off
We get a whole bunch of Dos Gris down here and I’ve considered getting a few dozen dekes and trying to hunt them in the lake just never use long lines before.
Those look like they might could maybe be Herberts texas rigs. Even if they arent i would look into em. Great quality. Great customer service. Great price.
Just use a hammer for the crimps and 500lbs mono for ocean fishing also get flat weights instead of round if you are In windy areas more drag and roll resistant
Not sure if it's been shared yet, heres a link on Amazon for the sleeve crimper. www.amazon.com/dp/B07TVT3VLM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_cxoLFbDCGGX6Q should be easy to use I use crumpets like this daily at my job
Out my way we hunt a lot of deep rivers with lots of current so I can't use Texas rigs. What do you use for deep water rigs? I use about 16 foot lines with 1 pound strap weights.
Man I love your videos I'm getting anxious to go out unfortunately the last half of duck season is going to be a killer for me to go out on and I'm going to be in a back brace due to back surgery so I'm going to try to get all my stuff in and September and October and then hopefully conservation season be able to go hit it again
sam wilkes I have 30 avian x decoys and they look absolutely phenomenal but the only downside is that they are in my opinion very heavy decoys. I would take into consideration the weight of those decoys if I were you. Maybe go with a Dakota packable mallard or the floaters that lucky duck makes
Bobby I am worried about the big water reservoir that I hunt .It has been flooded all year and now that the water is coming down the smell is rotten .I worry about botulism on our early ducks . Have you heard of any reports on this yet this year?
Order all your Texas rig materials from any saltwater tackle supply like bass pro sinkers pick what size you deem appropriate for your situation why drag more weight the you have to, monofilament 200# to 400# crimps and crimping tool and snap swivels Not Walmart
Tyson, we made a couple of the jerk rigs last year like the ones Bobby does only we took apart a fish stinger and used them for hooking the decoys to the string. Works great!
Bobby... thank you for the informative and entertaining videos! During this video, you mention making sure that your Mojo batteries are charged. This made me think and led me to ask the following question... How do you store your Mojos and their batteries during the off-season? Is there anything that you do to extend their lives? I always keep mine inside my house, but beyond that, do not do anything special. Are there any tips you can provide? Thanks in advance!
No problem. And another thing if your storing quivering butts or anything of that nature that takes smaller batteries such as AA batteries take those out and store the decoy with nothing in the battery parts
You dont need a set of crimping pliers. Just pound the crimps shut on both sides with a hammer. Dont go crazy, all you need is to visibly flatten the crimp. They will not slide that way.
donald plank yeah, and I suppose your right depending where you hunt, where I hunt in Minnesota on fairly big water and later in the season small spreads just don’t cut it for ducks
