The album days where the listener paid attention to the cover while listening.( Well at least I did) Max Norman for On Your Bike ltd. I read all the time. Wicked Sensation is on my top 5 Guitar albums, a masterpiece!
@Jonathan Cameron It's pretty sad when Max mentioned in this day, you can record your band off the cell phone and it would sound better than in the studio. Technology helps but it also damages a lot of things, besides making people very lazy and impatient. What a shame.
@Jonathan Cameron Some of those thank-you messages were probably aimed at "Metal" Mike Saunders, who was a rock journalist and, later, a member of the punk band Angry Samoans.
Wicked sensation is a masterpiece and it hurts that George and his band never got close to it again. I still listen to it today and it's one of the best guitar albums ever. Everyone involved were hitting their peak
yeah, remember reading a the credits and thank you's? i even used to read the dead wax on the album run out tracks...the Iron Maiden ones were awesome.
A lot of people don't know this but Max Norman was approached by PanterA to produce their major label debut Cowboys From Hell and it all fell through when Max was offered the big money to produce Lynch Mob..
I'm a proud Englishman and have to say that with the exception of a few great Scnadanavian bands, the English and the Americans have absolutely dominated rock and metal since day 1. Between us, our countrymen have made history in the studio or on the stage.
Max isn't completely honest about his position in the BoO band context and doesn't understand what he's talking about. Bob Daisley explains in the Double Stop podcast with him as the guest. ruclips.net/video/GyAInC7zvKE/видео.html
Spot on with Oni, I saw Lynch Mob on the first tour in Salt Lake City, Oni could not sing and was obviously frustrated that night and walked right off mid song leaving the band playing and looking at each other like "I guess just keep playing?" , which they did, Oni came back after a while and they made it through...band sounded awesome though!
Oni was his own worst enemy and should have been a staple during that era as his singing in the album is fantastic. I'd still take oni walking off mid gig half drunk over Robert mason.
The producers( Max, Beau Hill, etc) are just as important as the band for putting out great music of our youth. Max sure knows his S**t. A real master. **BRIAN** Great questions you asked. I'd ask the same ones! Very entertaining 👍👍
You used the 2004 remix of Symphony of Destruction in the beginning, the one Max Norman didn't mix and the one that contains drum samples. No hate here, I'd just like to nitpick. Fantastic and interesting interview.
Great interview! I remember Max Norman from the Megadeth days, and I was very impressed with him back then. Good to know he's still out there! I never knew about his pitch correcting trick, it sounds quite tedious, but I'd say the results were vastly superior to current auto-tune nonsense.
Ozzy does not get too little credit for his melodies. On the Bark At The Moon album it says lyrics and music written by Ozzy Osbourne. How is that being credited too little? If anything it is credited way too much. If anyone thinks that Ozzy wrote the lyrics and music is because they are too big of an Ozzy fan. I am glad that I listened to the Bob Daisley interview first because he corrects alot of the mistakes that are said on this interview. Max is an accomplished producer and all, but saying that Ozzy was responsible for at least 50% of the music is a slap to the face of Bob Daisley, Randy Rhoads, and Lee Kerslake on the first two studio albums, and Jake E Lee and Bob Daisley for the Bark At The Moon album. All any fan has to look at it is Black Sabbath's albums with Ozzy as their lead singer. It is very well known that Geezer Butler wrote the majority of the lyrics, and Tony Iommi wrote all the music.
To little?! Most people think he writes all the lyrics when he's only written a handful in his life. He use to go around saying he wrote Suicide solution about Bon Scott. He never wrote a word of it. Daisley did
These producer interviews are great. THANK YOU.
Lest we forget his work with Loudness. "Thunder In The East" has some monster guitar sounds and killer riffs!
Speak of the Devil, Max...the sound of Ozzy's voice is just the best!!!! Really epic

Max also did the incredible Power of the Night by Savatage!!!
Awesome information on Blizzard, Diary, and Tribute. Want to hear more!
A lot of people don't know this but Max Norman was approached by PanterA to produce their major label debut Cowboys From Hell and it all fell through when Max was offered the big money to produce Lynch Mob..
I've listened to all his interviews; stories never get old. I consider him a visionary in engineering/producing.
Excellent. Can't get enough Max Norman.
So Glad to find Sword and his interviews, great insight and a lot of fun revisiting my favorite music, producers and musicians.
+Mark Patrick Thanks Mark!
Awesome interview, Brian! I'm heading over to listen to the Bob Daisley interview now! I just read his book! Keep up the good work! Thank you!
He has a great memory for details. Great interview. Lots of good information here.
Lynch mob 1 was masterful to say the least Max if you are reading comments
Thank you for these uploads!

Producers in rock have some similarity with conductors in classical music ?
1:00:12 starts MEGADETH stuff
Good man.
Thank you!!!!!
the man had heart love his work.
excellent! lots of interesting topics.
I thought Tribute had three live shows? One for the guitar solo alone .
That’s right - Cleveland sides 1-3 except the solo spliced in from Montreal. Side four two songs from UK 1980.
Guys a genius

Ha ha - yeah, you're right!
Savatage! Power of the night 🎸☝️
The call of the wild
Aahh aahh

Graham Ferguson are you from Newtonards?
✔
You don't get money/credit for writing the music, only lyrics and melodies?! What the hell is he talking about, lol?!
Great question about Ozzy's vocal melodies. I agree with you that Ozzy gets too little credit for his melodies.
Well, I wouldn't go THAT far lol Randy Rhoads and Bob Daisley were always the Musicians carrying Ozzy on their backs over the years.
The episode with Bob Daisley is a must. It corrects some

Max Norman keeps flicking his lighter during this and it's very annoying. You'd think as a producer he'd have been more aware.
Sorry, analog wins, hand down.
Loudness????
