    Great interview !!! What a great career, one that millions of us would love to have had. Werman tells a hell of a story and brings the listener right into the studio. He produced a slew of great albums that are still revered to this day.

    Tom's a great guy and great Producer. I've enjoyed so many albums he's produced. The Crue, Poison, Cheap Trick, Nugent all those albums were what I grew up on, I'm 42yrs old and if theirs one thing I know, it's rock n roll lol. This was a good interview. I've heard a couple more interviews he's done the last couple years and their all great. He doesn't say a bad word against anyone, including George Lynch who he couldn't get along with at all. Great guy! Thanks for this interview Double Stop! I'll be back 🤘

      42? And your comment is a year old. So you were born in 1977? Wow! That means you weren't even a teen-ager until 1990. You were 13! Oh boy! And you grew up on Motley and Poison? When Motley was at their peak you were probably 9 years old. Same with Poison. Please dude, stop it. Your not that old and experienced.

    He produced what I consider to be the best metal album from the 80s- Little Monsters from a band named Holland in 1985. I wore that tape out.

    Well, *_I_* appreciate it, Brian. My best regards to Tom Werman.

    As a music fan and guitarist, what id give to go into the studio with a producer like Tom Werman with a big 80's/90's studio budget, record to tape and have the tools to crank out a killer album!.. Not that im anything special (musically) but itd be a real experience!.

    Great interview. Tom sounds liek Casey Kasem! He possibly enhanced the demise of a band like Motley by NOT letting them record a dirty sounding record, as evidenced by the example of his daughter listening to the Beasties. But Tom, like many of these producers, failed to realize that people don't just listen to what the music sounds like, but what the music SAYS. But that's the difference between mainstream and alternative, and how alternative becomes mainstream, and so forth. You certainly can't deny his record sales. I think Werman was a genius.

      Ironically, Bad Brains hired Beau Hill to be their producer in the '90s despite Beau being more pop than Tom.

    It's funny how during the interview with Tom Werman , he never talks about Milijenko Matijevic. I guess Tom didn't want to butcher this Croatian - American singer (lead singer Chris Izzy Cole), songwriter & not to be forgotten the lead singer of the band Steelheart. Their first producers (Steelheart) was Mark Opitz & Bruce Dickerson of Iron Maiden. The record label was MCA.

    "Technically Inept" is correct. Twusted Sister's "Stay Hungry, Dokken's "Tooth and Nail, and Motley Crue's "Theatre of Pain were far from Sonic masterpieces. They all sounded dull and very limited in bandwidth. It wasn't until the Poison album that the sound quality improved.

    • @stealthmeisterx3533
      @stealthmeisterx3533 8 лет назад +2

      Napoleonic Emperor I did NOT say that "Stay Hungry" did NOT sell well. I am NOT talking about album sales. I am talking about how these albums sounded. I do have a music degree and waa a recording engineer. I am sorry that I can hear things in these albums that you cannot. They all have a limited bandwidth and were probably NOT using Dolby SR while recording. Sorry, you probably have no idea what I am talking about. You should probably go look up the older recording techniques of the mid 1980's.

    Tom's name is on many of my all time favorite albums. I think that he gets a lot of undue criticism. Theater of Pain's shortcomings, I think are due to the bands substance abuse problems more so than the production. Stay Hungry on the other hand. The performance, song writing and arrangements are there, but the guitar tone sucks ass. Was it Werman's fault? The guitar tone on the previous and subsequent albums was much better, but those albums combined probably didn't sell as much as Stay Hungry.

    • @freddyferrillo9704
      @freddyferrillo9704 4 года назад

      Stay Hungary is a great album. I like it a lot. Still listen to it after all these years. The guitar tone is weird. I realise that nowadays. But back in '84 I didn't. I saw Twisted Sister live on that particular tour. They opened for Dio. And they did have that same guitar tone that's on the record.

    Tooth & Nail was not Dokkens biggest record that was Beast From the East and Crues was Dr. Feelgood anyone into that music scene knows this ! Tooth was a great record one of my Favs . Bur Crues Theater was their weakest record Home Sweet Home & Smokin a cover were the only charting singles it was over produced compared to the Raw Nasty sound of Shout the best Crue record it was a true Metal record which they never got close to again . I think that was more Nikki then the producer though ??

      Back for the Attack was Dokkens biggest selling album globally....if you check the RIAA information on the band. Beast from the East was the one that earned them the Grammy nomination but it didn't sell nearly as well as Back for the Attack , Under Lock and Key or Tooth and Nail all of which went Platinum.

    The Beastie Boys thats almost 8 yrs between time periods ? 87 the year of WhiteSnake , 88 the yr of Winger & Warrant , 89 was completely owned by Crue on Dr. Feelgood , 90 - 91 The Black Album Metallica oh and lets not forget Skid Row and especially Pantera !!! This dude is off really badly to much Drugs on his part ....

    He says he got out of the music business when it got sloppy basically.
    But Tom, how sloppy was Vince? And the no talent Hollywood rocker hacks you produced? Kind of a weird statement Tom. I think when shit got “real” you realized you couldn’t “decorate it “
    Great interview love you Tom

    Tom Werman has an ego as big as the acts he produced. He produced bands that were already on the way up, and he was brought in to make hits for the record company Most of the bands that he produced had a better sound before he got involved and much of the raw sound of these bands was lost after he became involved.

    • @BillMcGirr
      @BillMcGirr Год назад

      Are you high?
      Motley Crue was the only act to have a better selling album after he stopped producing them.
      One…
      Dr. feel good.
      That’s it.
      Werman has 7 artists he took platinum… that never were platinum before him.
      Not 7 albums…
      7 artists with multiple platinum albums.
      Put the pipe down.
      You couldn’t hold Wermans jock.👍🥃

      @@BillMcGirr I guess you made my point. I don't care if they sold more albums after Tom got involved. The music got worse, but it must be more important to you that the bands tuned into bubble gum radio metal that got played on the radio.
