"Yeah I'm a sock analyst." *stares at socks*
HAH I love this! RUclips does some odd auto subtitling and someone had pointed this one out to me. Thanks RUclips for keeping the socks safe.
F.E.E.T. analyst

Started my first IT job in January supporting commercial notebook warranty, got promoted to gaming pc support in less than a month, and soon ready to move into security. I chose to go the tech support route to escape the property management hamster wheel I was on. I’m enrolled at WGU for Cybersecurity and Information Assurance, and my current class is the network +. Once I finish the security + this summer, I plan on applying for SOC analyst roles. These videos are helpful to keeping many of us noobs on the right path. Thank you 🙏🏽 😊
You are well on your way! Congratulations on your awesome adventure and thank you for your kind comments!
I really like the way that you explain the different roles. Thank you very much for doing so.
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for your comment :)
Love it in the words of old school video "the camera loves you" I felt this flowed nicely and got great info from it dig your lighting set up
Thanks so much! Extra points for lighting comment. I'm mostly here just to be a production nerd lolzz.
I like that you did the SOC Analyst first since that is one of the jobs that requires some serious stamina due to the high turnover rate. I'm no SOC Analyst but I am a former US Navy Shipboard EW Chief and I know all about the many hours of looking at a screen full of could be threats. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your experience!!!
Thanks for your interaction and thoughtful comments! Screen fatigue is REAL! Hard to remember to get up and move around when you can.
Great production!
Thank you!
Incredible value and amazing production quality! Awesome work breaking down different career path; I wish more companies offered structured career progression. Unfortunately due to the high demand for experienced professionals, most SOC-type positions have to wear multiple hats. It's great that you're dividing the overlap between the realm of cybersecurity and general SOC work. - Again, amazing content, keep it up Jennifer!
- Vince
Thanks so much for your thoughts on this! I do think there is a really high demand for SOC positions and it can be a little more difficult to get that foot in the door luckily there is also a lot of turn over. Fingers crossed for all those interested in breaking into cyber!
Learned a lot! Valuable content and engaging presentation!
Thanks so much for the comment! More to come soon! :)
I really just came across your video, and the way u explained things with the simplicity while covering every aspect of the knowledge a person would be looking for, it's really great to be honest! I am soon starting with my university! I am really curious to how I am going to lead my way up to the success and get my dream career! I hope it comes with the best journey! Ty for helping us all around and we here to give our support to you!

Thank you so much! I am glad that you found this video helpful! Best wishes in your cybersecurity journey.
Thanks great information
Of course!
Thank you great info.
Thank you for your positive comment :)
Thank you for the information too, i appreciate.
I appreciate your positive comment! Thanks so much!
It's nice to see other people in CySec with tattoos. I just had interviews for an analyst position and I was so worried about my tattoos that I went out and bought a different turtleneck sweater for each of the 3 interviews and kept my hands down in the interviews (they were over zoom). None of my tattoos are offensive, but I wanted the job so bad. Luckily, I got it, but it's hybrid, so hopefully they don't care when I go in for the first time.
I would really hope this day and age they would not have any issues with tattoos. Especially if you are not client facing working with a demographic that may be offended. I'd say info sec is a great place to be inked up!
Great!!!
Love from India, I think you'll be going to be a 1k subscriber RUclipsr soon and then gradually 10k and then you know.
Good Luck!
Very kind of you to say! Thank you so much :)
Great Video. I recommend getting CySA+ to break in as an Analyst. ✌🏽😎
Thank you! Yes I agree CySA is a great industry recognized certification!
@@AltFunktion I just got it last week! It was one of the more fun certs ive gotten so far
@@ultravioletiris6241 Nice! Any advice or someone going after it? In case they end up in the comments :)
Refreshing seeing non-AI video. Good job, Jenn!
Thanks for saying so! Hopefully a little more human ^_^
Great video😀
Glad you enjoyed!
Great Content, I’m interested in starting off with VM..
Vulnerability Management is a really great starting point. Not only is there a ton of training and certifications around VM, it's also a really important component of company security.
@@AltFunktion True, I am not into the coding and monitoring aspect. I have a background in Investigations, so I think GRC is a good way for my to break into the field..
Love your ink ❤
Thanks! Forever work in progress 😄
I think a more in depth approach, or maybe your experience, with getting into CTI would be very helpful for those looking into that career path. I've been interested in it myself, and as you said, there's not a ton of formal learning out there. Great video, though!
I love this idea! Thank you so much for the idea and positive comment. :)
Wow everything looks perfect, i really appreciate your hardwork and thanks for the content. I believe it was a typo with the SOC analyst timestamp, it is written as Sock Analyst, Could you please give it a check!!
Haha probably! YT does it automatically I'll have to go back and review. Thanks for your feedback!
I watched 30 videos this was the best one. Can you please make a video on someone starting from scratch for CISO/Security Architect/Ethical Hacker? Thank You
So glad you liked it! Thank you so much for the feedback. I can absolutely expand into some of these more specific areas. Great content ideas!
you look great for cybersecurity content...
I’m so unsure of this comment but it fits,
@@_bass3xe838 she looks dope... you don't have to be sure....it fits perfect..
Thanks! I think.

Good clio , what about GRC domain , i think it is a cyber security career paths
GRC is of course another very important area of cybersecurity! Perhaps will need to make it into a follow up video :)
I recently became an infosec analyst at my company specializing in IAM so there’s that pathway as well
I agree! I've thought about making a video on career paths in cybersecurity that aren't in the "defense/offence" space. Such as GRC, IAM, and other roles that are also very important to infosec.
Bro, IAM is an area of Cybersecurity that I really want to get into. Would you mind linking up with you to learn more about your journey in that niche? Any contact? As part of my current role with a commercial real estate company, I handle all access control/permissions for property tenants by provisioning and deprovisioning credentials (key fobs), account management etc.
@@nanapoku5259 Super important area of cybersecurity!
@@AltFunktion Thats good to know. Any video or link to the IAM journey? Given my background as described earlier, would you say the transition will be smooth?
@@nanapoku5259 No videos on IAM yet but I am planning one for cybersecurity job roles that are not the "front lines" type jobs that are super important and are often over looked. I am not sure on the ease of entering the world of IAM or the prior skills needed but I am sure if you hunted around LinkedIn a bit with key words you would find more info!
Many Thanks for video and apologies for long comment..
from last 3 year I'm working on Microsoft Vulnerabilities generally will get internal report from IP360 Tripwire. and from client side will get qualys report as per report will work on vulnerability like VS Update means application updates or some vulnerability like Jet red or Dcom means registry key update as part of remediation on Win servers. i really enjoy work what should i do to get into this career because I'm part of support team but because of 1 year window patching experience i accepted this work back jn 2020. now i want to work in this but its really confusing as online i see many things how to start what is the basic normal certificate i can do ??????
This will depend on what kind of experience you will be able to convey on a resume. If you are well experienced in vulnerability management and can communicate that to an employer I don't see why you should not start applying to roles and see what happens. Best of luck!
Great content , nice sister
Thanks so much!
What about dental nurse wants to work in cybersecurity field?? Any suggestions!?? Where to start? Ty
Would start with building out that Linked In profile! So many different opportunities out there it’s all about building a networking and getting to work! I have a video on getting into cybersecurity check that one out!
I just got in to Network and IT security studies. It's a higher professional degree. Do I need a bachelor to get jobs? Or is it enough with the higher professional degree?
Depends on what roles you are ultimately going to want. You do not need a degree to get into cybersecurity or networking. Certs and relevant experience can be a good replacement to a degree. When I say experience it does not have to be job related you can build out your own learning as well with hands on labs. Just show your work!
So I have sleeves and hand tattos as well. I am new to the industry and about to finish my degree. How do employers feel about hand tattoos in this industry? I always assumed since most careers in this field do not deal with customers face to face, they do not care. The hand tattoos won't hinder my hiring chances will they?
Hello! Welcome my tattooed fam. This is a great question and one I have gotten a few times. The reality is it depends on the company and who you are talking to. I think the field does lean more towards accepting body modification than others but also just our society as a whole is more comfortable with the idea of tattoos. When you get to the interview process I'd do some recon on the company and determine the culture. If the culture seems a little more clean cut then maybe try to cover the tattoos while they get to know you. If you see a lot of other people with body modifications openly in their culture, still dress professionally but don't stress to go the extra mile to cover up the ink. Best of luck to you! You'll find the right fit.
yeah that seems to be what i have been noticing as well. Society seem to be accepting tattoos way more nowadays and aren't so frowned upon. I used to work only trade jobs so they could care less about where your tattoos are. I have my first help desk interview tomorrow so we will see how this company feels! thank you for the help

Can you elaborate those domains Auditing, PAM and alll
If you are looking to get a deep dive on the domains check out the recommended Professor Messer materials. He dose an amazing job getting into the weeds!
Can you talk about DoD 8570 certs for cyber Ms. Funk?
Thank you for the idea! Ill have to do some research and see what I come up with. Appreciate your comment!
I already have a cyber security course but job on it still out there..
Takes time! Work on networking. I have a “getting into cyber” video that may help!
How would you advise a person to start in cyber security with associate degree in cyber security.
Start getting hands on by creating a home lab or using platforms like Let’s Defend. Additionally read cyber news often! Bleepingcomputer.com is a great resource.
FYI, “Certified Vulnerability Management Engineer” is not a certification that currently exists.
Thanks for the heads up! I'll look into source and script verbiage to correct any applicable information for the future.
Heyoooo corrected in caption and gave you a shout out for the catch. Much appreciated!
@@AltFunktion No problem! Thanks for correcting so quickly. I wish you luck in developing this channel
@@AltFunktion chatgpt eh?
Naw just the nature of too many tabs open both in the browser and my brain. Growing pains of content creation.
Which university degree is closest Computer Science or Information System to Cybersecurity?
It depends on what your interests are. I see a lot of people go for the WGU cybersecurity program but I know self pace is not for everyone.
@@AltFunktion I am interested in Cybersecurity.
@@zweiwing4435 Good! Keep up the research and stay curious. It's a great field in my opinion.
Why not Grc
If I where to cover every potential career path we would be here all day. Maybe GRC for the next one!
what about IAM cybersecurity engineer
IAM is yet another very important aspect of cybersecurity!
Great video! Would love to have you on my channel for a collaboration around security.
Thank you! Heck yeah I'm down for collaborations :)
I had to watch this 4 times. I kept being distracted by how cute she is
