Mention the Hyundai i10 to a car industry type and they'll probably tell you that this was the car that benefited most opportunely from the Government scrappage scheme. Right place, right time and all that. Thing is, the scrappage scheme only lasted a year to September 2010, yet come 2013, the Hyundai i10 still topped the sales charts for city cars, bettering the Volkswagen Up, the Suzuki Alto, the Vauxhall Agila and the Smart Fortwo. So there's clearly more to this car than just mere serendipity.
Key to understanding why the i10 has done so well is to look at the 2011 facelift of this model. This upgraded a number of aspects and put the car in a position to retain its number one spot. Used examples of this version aren't too hard to find and they make a great buy if you need cheap, nearly new wheels. Here's what to look for.

I like this facelift mk1 i10. I think it’s overall the best looking i10. The next gen was a bit awkwardly proportioned and the current model is too fussy in its design. This is perfect

Great car to drive and own.
It was our second car as a family living out in the sticks and commuted 10 miles to the city where my partner worked.
Bulletproof Toyota quality reliability and an easy car to drive.
At the time I was in an MR2 then laterally a BMW 320i.
I still enjoyed driving the I10.
There was an immediacy from the 1.2 engine and the weight of the car being so small it always felt quite go-kart like.
Quality car for next to no money.
    Highly recommended.

    Great review.
I always wondered how do older versions of the same model compare with newer ones, in terms of fuel efficiency. For example 2009 vs 2017 or 2019. Because if the difference is negligible, than it's better (more economic) to buy an older version (if it's in good condition)?

I think ours was quite an early one maybe 2010ish.
It belonged to my grandparents first and they did maybe 18,000 miles in three years then we were given it with two years of warranty left.
      We never needed it.
      Amazing little car.

Great review, will the 2011 i10 1.2 model be able to use the new E10 petrol, and will it do any harm over time to the engine! Thanks again

I just got one fast little car but bloody awful fuel economy 30 mpg in town is all im getting , so the 65mpg figure is total BS i say , may sell it in a few weeks only had it 2 weeks lol too hard to drive in the city for me as the steering is very heavy due to the little tyres.

    No airbag ☹️☹️☹️

It's never going to be fast enough to need one.
I was driving an MR2 at the same time as we owned one and it didn't even have any sort of wheelspin control. The ABS was archaic and you could hear it hammering on and off.
      In old cars: Drive better.
      Luv and Peace.

It has more airbags than most cars??? Literally one of the best features about it and I own one! You can only get certain seat covers because of the airbags!
