    I love everything about this! Trying new things, powering thru the "ugly stage," the story behind the piece, working with new paper and pens, explaining your thought process, everything!

    I loved the lettering and the journalling! Apart from recording those moments of your life, it made the entire drawing more appealing, colorful and somehow cohesive! The yellow Posca was the perfect color to complement the browns of the pots.

      It made me think cheese and suddenly the fondue pots were not just random objects - it made the drawing more ‘real’ but in a non literal way!

    I was surprised to hear you say you might not like a piece, walk away for awhile and then look at it again and decide maybe it's not so bad - surprised because I do the same thing! I also appreciate your reminding viewers (like me) to just keep going. Thank you for making these videos Taria, I enjoy and am inspired by them a lot.

      Thanks Jeanne! I think its easy for us all to think other artists are always happy with what they do and everything's always wonderful...but I'm pretty sure that's never the case....I have really made my peace with this now and its very liberating :) Sometimes it takes me a year and I look back at a sketchbook wondering why I am so hard on myself....sometimes I even think, oh I wish I could sketch as well as that now - my ability has gone downhill! Ha HA - it never ends!!! But generally I can laugh at myself now :)

    I journal every day and augment my journal with illustrations. My grandchildren now love to read my journals. I’ve settled on Quo Vadis journal books with dots. Paper wrinkles a bit with watercolor but no significant bleed through so I can write/paint on both sides of the page.

      Aww, so beautiful that your grandchildren love your journals... this is why journaling is special, not just for self but for shared moments and keepsakes. I need to look up Quo Vadis as it's new to me and like that it is bleed proof x

    Actually think you captured the feel of the pots. After all it’s not supposed to be a photo realistic drawing. It’s a sketch of a feeling. I like that you made notes on the sketch. I often do the same in mine. And yes I too have a gray sketchbook that I have some work in.. I don’t use it a lot, but it’s fun to switch out of the norm every once in a while. And sometimes you come upon something that just feels right for gray paper.

    I’ve been doing a lot of illustration journaling lately. Mostly to practice on ink and line drawing and some washes occasionally. I’ve been wanting to try tone paper after watching your previous video..but I kinda went on a frenzy with sketchbook purchase. So I need to wait a little lol. Whatever you just did with this sketch, I salute you for your ability to let loose and be curious. I would have totally stressed out lol. I need to get some watercolor pencils..or color pencil for that matter!

    A very timely video - I’m thinking of getting the tan version of this sketchbook to try sketching with coloured pencils and ink. Not sure why I want the brown rather than the grey though! 🤷‍♀️

    • @tarias_sketchy_adventures
      @tarias_sketchy_adventures  2 года назад

      I had the brown one years ago - I chose that over the grey....so I thought I would try this one instead. And I have 2 other tan sketchbooks. I am enjoying the grey though - especially with sketches in grey shades and white gel pen, they really pop. I'll do a sketchbook tour when I finish his book, long way to go yet though!

    The pots turned out great in the end, didn't they? I usually only journal in notes for my paintings when I have a problem, such as not liking the paper or an error I made in my sketch of the subject.
    I love seeing the travel journals by others who give more information about their paintings (place, time, unusual happenings). I don't travel so what's to note?
    I also prefer videos where the artist shares some information about their location, like you do with a peak in your kitchen, and yard and join this with a demonstration at their workspace.
    What I mean, is I like seeing both location and workplace in the video.

      Thanks Patty - and thanks for the feedback. I thought without a bit of context people may be like why on earth is she sketching random pots ha ha, especially when it turned out to be a bit of a journal page anyway....it kind of came together. It also shows there are small stories to be found in everyday life - you don't need to travel anywhere, there's always small magical moments around us :)

  • @wenwake7584
    @wenwake7584 2 года назад +1

    Made me smile, your quick flip of the page to check for marker bleed. Did the markers bleed through on this paper? (Plus, thanks, because I now know how to pronounce too, lol). This turned out lovely after the usual 'ugly stage'. I learned to push through the ugly stage from the get go. Even if it fails, I've learned tumps. I love lettering and it gives your sketch that extra ummph. You need to play with lettering and arrangements more 😁
    Off topic: been there with the skeleton kitchen... when we ripped out our whole kitchen, walls and ceiling, to reposition joists/pipes/electrical wiring and all that stuff, I had a plank of mdf on work horses, with barely room to prep food, and cooking one-pot meals in the Instant Pot for about 10 weeks. Don't know how I coped thinking back!!! You've got beautiful window space there... it's going be the gathering hub when you complete it... nom nom, plink plink fizz 😄

    • @tarias_sketchy_adventures
      @tarias_sketchy_adventures  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Wen! No the watercolour markers didn't blled through, I didn't think they would bu probably should have checked before starting my sketch, not half way through ha ha! Yes - it would be fun to try more lettering and sketchbook page design stuff. I am such a messy person by nature - I kind of like a chaotic sketchbook spread than one that's neat and pretty (although I certainly adore looking at other peoples neat and pretty sketchbook pages)!
      10 weeks without a kitchen?!?!?!? Oh wow. We are in week 2 and I am losing my mind. I want to cook real food again!

    • @wenwake7584
      @wenwake7584 2 года назад

      @@tarias_sketchy_adventures No bleed is good to know... I'll remember to try Hanmuhle when offers arise.
      I prefer the chaotic sketchbooks too because I like diversity and I think our eyeballs and mind naturally like roaming that visual exploratory path (if you get my drift). I think that's what most of us are like. Pretty certainly doesn't sum up my sketchbooks anyway, lol.
      Hope you're both back to normality, re: cooking, very soon 🙏

    I have the watercolor gray book, it is much lighter tone and white doesn’t pop as much as the gray book you were using.I do love their paper and the design of their books. Btw I notice that you call your audience “ you guys” about 6-7 times. You are a woman as is prob 95% of your audience. How about making a little effort to say “ you all” or “women” or “ artists”. I know you are smart enough to edit what you say.. it would be gently appreciated! Thanks so much for you wonderful and honest videos..
