This is a review and demonstration of the Milwaukee M18 Brushless Rotary Hammer model 2718-20. I got this from The Home Depot as a kit (model 2712-22), which includes the brushless 1¾” SDS-MAX rotary hammer (model 2718-20), two M18, 18 volt, REDLITHIUM™, high output, HD12.0, 12.0 aH hour batteries (model 48-11-1812), a Rapid Charger (model 48-59-1808), a tube of grease, and a storage suitcase. In this video, I chisel concrete, blacktop, and mortar with a 3" scaling chisel as part of a driveway repair. Anti-vibration works well as does the AutoStop E-clutch. Batteries and charge time could be an issue for some professionals though. There's also one thing that isn't included with the tool that would be helpful. I also briefly talk about One Key™ and the app.
This is another fine Milwaukee tool designed for the professional! It drills, chisels, and chips concrete, blacktop, brick, and soil with ease. From my days of working on a blacktop crew, I must admit this thing is much easier to lug around than a 50 lbs jackhammer. It only weighs 25 lbs when outfitted with a battery and chisel. Is this rotary hammer as strong as a 50 lbs jackhammer with a compressor? No, but it's still AWESOME! #milwaukeetool

This is the 5th tile project we've done where we've removed the old tile before installing new tile, and the first one with this tool ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqqoaX03nrziKwF7Bjjcc71YzLEleMvOS . I want to cry for all the unnecessary work we've done in the past. With this tool, we removed tile surrounding a fireplace, as well as the hearth tile, set in loads of cement, in less than an hour. I highly recommend this tool. It was easy to use, and very satisfying watching the tile literally fall off the wall.

Looks like a beast. I have the 1 1/8 with dust extractor. done some chipping with it for floor drains but mainly used for anchors. I'd love to give this beast a go
Yeah, I love this tool for demo, chipping, drilling, tamping, and even digging. Wish the batteries would last longer though, although they charge pretty fast with the Milwaukee Super Charger (versus the included rapid charger).

The Supercharger is definitely helpful for the 8 and 12’s. I wish it was faster than a rapid charger for non-high output batteries though.

That's a nice hammer drill. I probably could have busted out the 4 inch bag concrete poured porch landing with that.
Definitely could using an SDS-Max bullpoint and concrete chisel. You could also use the hammer drill with a large bit to bore holes into it and then chisel it away.
honest review man!! No battery would get the more than what, a lame 25-35 minutes when chipping? Not to mention, I need to core hole 4" or 5" into house outside wall for boiler venting, the only battery would make is the MX power pack 100V battery Milwaukee has, but not an 18V, no matter the Ah is built for..yea like this guy chipping (shaving?) concrete underneath asphalt.

Is it common for these rotary hammers to not have a reverse/forward switch for drilling mode ?
It is pretty uncommon to not have a forward/reverse switch. This model also doesn’t have a drill only mode although I’ve found Hammer Drilling works fine for drilling.
Will this work good for a mechanic to get stuck bushings out?
I wouldn't recommend it.
So is this like a bigger badder version of the other m18 fuel version?
This is a Fuel version. It's just the 1¾" version.
i cant decide if i should buy this or not or a corded one. The batterys are nice to use on my other tools but in terms of chipping concrete while doing base plumbing work im undecided, espeically at a $1500 price tag
I get it! You'll never run out of power with a corded tool; however, if you're already invested in the Milwaukee platform (specifically, HD12 high output batteries since they'll run the tool the best), it's a tremendous convenience not to be tethered to a cord.

Glad the video was helpful. Case dimensions with the case in the position to remove the tool are (l x w x h):
26 1/8” x 21 1/8” x 7” with top handle down. When the top handle is up, width increases by 2 1/4” (21 1/8” + 2 1/4”= 23 3/8”).
What was that vibration like?
Vibration isn’t bad at all. Surprisingly little actually.
What is the longest bit options? seems the depth is limited until you get to the body of the hammer.
I'm not sure I understand the question, but I'll give it a shot. There is no maximum length noted in the documentation for bits. As you pointed out, you will be limited by the body of the hammer. Recommended maximum diameter for a twist bit with this tool is 1¾", 2½" for tunnel bits, and a whopping 6" for core bits (not that I'd try that!). So, in the case of a twist bit, you could certainly use a 1¾" (diameter) carbide masonry bit that's 36" long and add an extension for even more length... although it might be slow and likely a battery drainer. Also keep in mind the diameter of any extension would need to be less than 1¾" in this case or else the extension won't fit into the hole should you decide to go deeper than 36".
@@BruceAlanR thanks, yes you answered the question...wanted to know my length options for bits. Looks like a 36" is available plus the few inches until I run into the wide part of the body. Are these bits standard across the impact hammer manufacturers or do I need to buy Milwaukee bits for this unit? Unlike sawzalls which I can buy different manufacturer's blades for my Milwaukee.

You are not limited to Milwaukee bits. Any bit labeled SDS-MAX will fit.
how well do these cut through sandstone?
It would be a very slow go, but it would do better than any compact hammer drill.

Yeah.. it's a really great rotohammer but it really discharges batteries fast when using anything bigger than a 1 1/8 masonry bit. Four batteries and I can't keep one charged when drilling back to back holes.. but it's a great rotohammer. Just be prepared to use 4 newer batteries (about $1200 worth of batteries) with two chargers. If your batteries are over 2 years old? You might need six.

Will this fit into a packout box?
I’m unsure of the interior dimensions of the Milwaukee 22 packout (if that’s what you’re referring to) since I don’t have it. It would be pretty close though.
How well does it core tho?🤔
This thing has no problem drilling 1/2”holes in wood, concrete, rock (granite is a bit slower). I’ve used it to drive rebar and set anchors in concrete/stone down to 24”. It blows away any hammer drill. Just need to make sure the bit stays cool.
Can it drill 33mm hole upto 3 feet depth in rock
It wouldn’t be the best choice for that kind of drilling. I can’t think of a battery powered tool that would make that job easy. Perhaps someone else will have a recommendation. Concrete or shale would be fine, but something solid like fieldstone would likely be a long painful job. I wouldn’t have enough batteries or bits/hole saws or patience for it.
Can U chisel with a masonry drill bit?
You can use masonry drill bits in "Hammering With Rotation Mode." The tool is basically a giant hammer drill. Once the weather gets better, maybe I'll make a video that is all drilling.

How long does it take to work with a single battery?
It will run for 20 minutes on a single HD 12.0 Ah High Output battery, which is why you'd need a few batteries to keep it running. For the pro's who want a tool that can run all day, a corded tool may be a better option. A Milwaukee SuperCharger can also help reduce charge time of a 12.0 Ah battery to ~ 1 hour versus 1 hour 20 minutes with a Rapid Charger.

Three 6.0Ah Forge batteries can run the tool all day? That would be amazing although as much as I would like to believe that I know this rotary hammer is a power hungry pig. I can barely keep it running all day with three HD 12Ah batteries being swapped in and out of a Supercharger. Sometimes I even have an additional Rapid charger handy while one 12Ah batt sits in the Supercharger and then I throw a I 6.0Ah high output battery into the mix to keep going.

Based on run time vs charge time, you’d need an arsenal of batteries to keep it running non-stop all day.
Just go with hilti TE 60-A36 CORDLESS ROTARY HAMMER cordless version for concrete
@@94blockmarauders2 maybe but they aren't cheap! Think will stick with corded as to have long run time without loads of batteries
36 volt, 9 amp bigger battery, more run time, powerfull, less vibration, so don't have to strain your when doing spall repair on vertical service

Absolutely, but it would be a lot of tool (power and weight) for a tile job... unless it’s a big job.
Does this one beats the Dewalt ?
I honestly have no idea. I usually do these videos to share my experiences with the tools I have. I try to avoid making recommendations since I’d feel terrible if someone bought it on my account and then didn’t like it. I recommend trying the DeWalt and if I’m you don’t like it, return it within 30 days under their 30 day money back guarantee. I’ve done it with a few of their tools.
Why doesn't this drill come with a Bit Stop?
That’s a great question that I don’t have an answer to. Would have been helpful to have a bit stop.

As a drill it’s a beast. Have used it with a Milwaukee 1/2” x 13” long masonry bit to drill holes in a concrete slab… fast and effortless. Wanna keep the bit cool if you want it to stay sharp though.
That would probably break up concrete better with a smaller chisel bit..

Dumb question but curious, could one use that to split firewood with the right bit?
You probably could, but it might be easier to swing an axe. This thing gets heavy very quickly.
@@BruceAlanR I meant just splitting hard to split pieces or too big to easily toss on splitter lol. They advertise these bits for splitting firewood but the guy testing them online was using a terrible drill for the example.
Ha! I’ve seen that and it intrigued me, but the reviews in general were pretty bad.
i’m telling you, try an air hammer for splitting firewood. if you got a decent compressor, get the central pneumatic air hammer at harbor freight, it’s only 20 dollars. and then you get the punch bit for it, and it’ll split wood real easy

For contractors, OneKey provides Inventory Tracking of all your Milwaukee Tools (for example, on which job or vehicle a tool is and who it was assigned to), last known location of tool, coin battery information, purchase/warranty info, a copy of the tool’s manual, and service records.
It rarely works tbh and I am a massive milwaukee fan

I wondered the same thing. This thing can drill through hard materials like a hammer drill, but it doesn’t have a drill mode like some rotary hammers.
What applications do you use the drill only mode for with a drill this size?
Rotation only allows you to smoothly penetrate thick wood without the impacts. For example, if you needed to attach the post of a deck to adjoining beams. You may be able to use a regular drill with a long bit, but it won’t be as fast or have as much power.
Another example is if you needed a pipe to enter a home at a specific point, and that point requires penetrating both wood and a concrete wall, a rotation only mode would allow you to smoothly drill the wood before switching to hammer only mode to penetrate the concrete.

How much was the kit
As I said, it’s an investment. From The Home Depot, the kit with two 12.0 Ah batteries and a rapid charger is $999. The kit with one 12 Ah battery and a rapid charger is $899. If you purchase the tool only, it’s $799. What I like about the Home Depot is they will match any price (including promotions) and that includes Amazon if they can look it up online and confirm it. @@BruceAlanR I'd of used that wide bit on Macadam and a 1" on the concrete. The wider you go, the less power is delivered.
