This opening really showed the potential for the Millennium trilogy to be adapted to film. Just wish the first movie was successful enough to warrant a sequel.

When I saw this in the theater I remember telling my friend, "That's worth the price of admission right there!" Beautiful to behold and reminiscent of NIN videos.
I remember when I saw this in theaters, how fully engrosed in the opening credits I was, and the entire film. They both quickly grabbed my attention. Best opening and movie ever.

It was actually Tim Miller's idea, who would later direct Deadpool and Terminator dark fate. David Fincher liked his idea of this opening.

this is such an amazing intro theme. Works on so many levels. Insight to Lisbeth' nightmares. An ironic send up to Daniel Craig who in this movie is nothing like James Bond and also indicates that this is a franchise movie. Fincher is brillant!
It fits perfectly with the rest of the movie. Supposedly the sequence is supposed to represent Lisbeth's nightmare, watch it again with that in mind.
I loved the original movies, but these movie and specially the intro is really good.

This is just an awesome remake of a tune, for a superb remake of a superb film.
It’s criminal the trilogy wasn’t completed with this cast.

Yeah. Plus it gives a metaphorical ecplanation of all of Lisbeth Salander's tattoos. Phoenix, Wasp, Rose and Dragon.
Depicts the essence of the entire film and books (oppression of girls and their redemption ) deserve a standing ovation itself .
God, this is freaking awesome, gives me chills. I loved Rooney's performance, it was outstanding and mind blowing. She nailed Lisbeth's character easily and that was pretty impressive. Makes me feel so bad she wasn't recasted for the new movie "The girl in the spider's web", she would have deserved all of it

I remember being amazing and frightened while watching the movie that opening at the home theater. The music and video fit together so well. It's really thrilling.
I saw this in theaters, I was tired & nearly asleep before the movie started but when this came on I sat straight up in my seat lol

David Fincher injects the audience with a dose of what Rooney Mara's character is feeling deep inside long before you even get to see her. It feels you up with anger, and darkness but you don't want it to go away because it feels so f*cking good to be pissed off at the world.

The three books have been out, and there are Swedish versions of all the films - they're so much better than the american version... The other books are "The Girl Who Played with Fire," and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest."
dumblydorr_62442 - They’re definitely not better (not considering taste). The American version is closer to the books AND it’s a technically storytelling masterpiece of cinema.

Just saw the movie on Saturday it so good and I was shock to see two 70 years old ladies watching and enjoy as much as I did,that tell how great of a flim it is.

As much as I love the opening, I agree with you, 100%. When I first watched the original Swedish films, I was completely enthralled... & they were all new Actors/Actresses to me... but I loved them!
Now, I'm a fan of David Fincher films, I'm a fan of Daniel Craig, & I love me some Christopher Plummer & Stellan Skarsgård... but this was extremely commercial &... clean. I also feel that it was WAY too soon after the original films were made to force out a remake because Noomi Rapace was perfect ♥

I mean, wow. Spectacularly good. I'd seen the Swedish versions with Noomi Rapace, and read the first part of the books, but - hey- it's Fincher, and he knocks this out of the park. And if anyone could do this, it would be him. Excellent adaptation, and this opening title is stunning. Always loved Karen O, meld her with Reznor, and you know you're in for something a bit special.
Rooney Mara utterly threw herself into the role of Lisbeth, she really brings out the character's vulnerability, it's amazing to watch. Such a shame that Fincher couldn't continue with the rest of the story.
(Yes, I've seen the later continuation, didn't care for it much)

i had the exact same thought. i was thinking that if these guys are so confident in the quality of their film that they gave it a bond-esque intro it must be really good. needless to say, i wasnt disappointed
I just recently saw the film. Masterfully done on every level. Great casting, writing is good, the look....well, it's Fincher. Yet, the only thing about this film I'd ever want to see again is this opening and the soundtrack.

Your opening credits are Absolutely compelling! I was so amazed when I saw this the first time and thought wow! The producers of this did a beautiful job of depicting what this movie is about. I love the way you used the black liquid and had just enough light to see the outlines of the objects. The flower represents the innocence before being tainted by the atrocities that were done and the explosions and blows from the fist were molding her into the character she becomes in the movie.

That's an interesting viewpoint -- I would be tempted to agree, except for two things. One, he is SO good with the technical and visual aspects that his films are beauties to watch even when not great complete films (Benjamin Button being a perfect case in point). And two, although I agree he isn't the best of storytellers, his films still tend to end up pretty good. His track record is very respectable, with mostly good to great films.
