    Just a tip coach, not actually a spoiler:
    After watching this episode, observe Hinata in the future episodes esp when Kageyama will do the serve. Mostly in the duration of the anime, Hinata will now cover his head everytime Kageyama will serve because that is now Hinata's greatest fear. HAHAHAHA!

    • @NKong95
      @NKong95 3 года назад +206

      That might be true to Hinata, but I usually cover the back of my head, not only because I’m protecting it, but because I’m trying to cover a bit of the opponent’s sight with my arms aswell, so it’s harder for them to tell where my teammate is aiming his serve. Even if it doesn’t cover much, it’s a bit distracting. It helps sometimes. Maybe not in a professional match, since the opponent can simply ignore me, or just “predict” who my teammate is aiming even before the serve. But I like to think that I’m helping. It keeps me focused.

    Y'know, I sometimes forget how gentle and caring Iwaizumi can actually be with people, because most of the time he's yelling at Oikawa and threatening to hurt him. It's all only because Iwaizumi cares about Oikawa, but seeing him be soft is such a strange change of pace. Also I guess he kinda has to be a little gentle with the team since he's the Vice Captain

      He may be Seijoh’s Ace and arm wrestling champion extraordinaire but he’s also just plain a really great person.
      He’s way nicer than Oikawa is anyways and there’s a reason that Kindaichi and Kyōtani respect him the way that they do- he’s strong but also incredibly supportive.
      He’s also put up with Oikawa’s jack@ssing around for years so I’d say it’s pretty expected to know what Oikawa is comfortable with and wow yeah he’s really patient and his only “current concern”(from bio) is how he’s shorter than Oikawa so it’s not like he’s really annoyed to help.
      Honestly might be my favorite duo in Haikyuu tbh just because theyre such a good setter-ace support system.

      @@yamaguchishoe6015 Here's a little sneak peak into one of the scenes during one of the matches: "S. could not break through the block and even though he had uncanny ability to sneak nasty spikes between the block and antenna it seemed now that the opposing team read his mind. "BAM!" another ball blocked. S.'s will was sinking and he was losing his cool every second. Just when he was at his last he heard ever calm voice of M..
      "If they block you so much that means you must really scare them." and that was it. S. realised what that meant and smiled. He called for another ball but this time he did a feint over the unsuspecting block. "Thanks" he turned to face libero. M. 'I told you they were scared of you." said M., calmly as always, and returned to his position. "That little brat." smiled S. to himself.
      It was not the wuestion of the opponents beings strong and S. being weak but S. being strong enough to cause the other team to panic and focus on stopping S. before he could do any real harm, and also shutting him down psychologically and pushing their fears onto him by relentless blocking. And that meant they were less focused on other spikers. "Captain, can I talk to you for a sec?" S. turned to R.
      M. looked from back row how R. started to set to F. on the right front and A. at the back row. "Impossible, S. decoying?" he thought as S. jumped to draw the block to himself and clearing path for that nice straight of F. M. smiled with approval. "Well, well. Our hot-headed golden-hair boy sometimes uses his brain." he got into position, as the opposing team got ready to receive the ball and proceed with an attack."

    The captain, daichi’s strongest point is his receiving, digging, basically he’s a defensive specialist. What they meant by him “filling in the gaps” was that karasuno as a whole at the moment doesn’t have a great receiver, but daichi is there to fill in the defensive hole that they have. Daichi is mostly mediocre at everything else in terms of this anime.
    Edit: after seeing some replies, I didn’t mean mediocre as in he’s bad at everything else, he’s indeed a solid all-rounder, I meant that he’s more on the average end with defense as an exception (I would consider players like kageyama or hoshiumi to be more of all rounders imo)

    • @aichilovewisdom
      @aichilovewisdom 3 года назад +80

    • @kesh862
      @kesh862 3 года назад +99

      As someone who's watched the rest of the anime and read the manga, I think it only really appears that way because the rest of the team is so bad defensively at this point outside of him. I'd say it's more accurate to consider Daichi as a solid all-rounder. He's great at digging/receiving, a good passer and an average/reliable spiker. The good thing is that he rarely makes mistakes and covers really well for Karasuno's....at times unstable play. Later in the series he frequently gets spikes during their all-team attacks, for example. The only reason he doesn't have more offensive output is because Karasuno has so many crazy strong attackers (Hinata, Aomine, Tanaka, Tsukki, Kageyama during their two-setter attack).

    I would recommend if possible switching from Netflix to Crunchyroll (another Anime Streaming site) as Crunchyroll is often is credited for having better translations.
    I am at the point where they made the comment of Onion Head, which sure, but Crunchyroll calls it "Turnip Head" which is slightly closer to the intent, not sure about the direct translations, but yeah. Some of these Netflix translations are difficult.

      @Withro Anime Edits Right, if anything, this shows the importance and difficulty of translating, trying to get both the meaning, context, feeling and emotions, it is not just a google translate word for word kind of a deal, how do you try to express to the audience everything while at the same time not being too off that it confuses or frustrates the native speakers.
      Translators definitely do not get enough credit, however, outside of that, we definitely can also have our own feelings of comparing which is superior XD.

    The “uh” sound for the “o” vowel happens when you don’t open your mouth as widely, and also there are a lot of cases in Japanese where “u” doesn’t get pronounced like “oo” which is why names like Sasuke are pronounced “sas-KEH” rather than “sa-SOO-keh”. It acts more like a bridge between one consonant and the next.

One of my older teammates while we were waiting for the bus told us that when we're nervous about a game we could tell our most embarassing/scary/funny stories before the game or in the bus. So we could stop focusing on what we were nervous of and started focusing on listening other stories, remember one of our own or telling ours. Now I'm one of the oldest ones in the team, so when the youngest are nervous we do the same thing sometimes

    28:50 I believe that by "forwards" Takeda is just referring to the front row players. Idk why they translated it that way - I haven't noticed that jargon in official translations, and it didn't sound like Takeda was using "forward" as a borrowed word. btw, it was interesting to hear about the triple blocks being uncommon!! it makes a lot of sense that players aren't always bunched together like that lol but I hadn't thought about it before.
    30:53 - the comment from Seijoh's coach about Daichi, the captain who covers the holes in their defense, was a pretty literal translation. love that you picked up on how Daichi's been supporting the team literally during games, and also holding them together off the court.
    32:33 iirc in Japanese hs volleyball, they normally do 3 sets for a prefectural-level game (including casual practice matches like this one), but 5 sets for tourney matches at the national-level.
    edited to fix timestamp

    • @marikothecheetah9342
      @marikothecheetah9342 3 года назад +6

      The triple block is used against most aggressive and most accurate spikers but to make a stable triple block requires a lot of skills from players to form it in time. Triple block is very effective if you know that the hitter you block will spike but that leaves open middle and other side for spiking. Thus double blocks with a middle blocker being that "closing the cross" player are more common as that leaves one person to cover the left or right wing of the net.

    6:23 Ah you really got Tanaka’s role key on! Furudate based him on the concept of a reliable senpai. He’s the type to take any criticism for himself but will DEFINITELY bring in the fist if that ill criticism is directed to his teammates (for my people who already seen Haikyuu then I’m talking about S4E7 in particular)
    11:41 AHAHA I LOVE HOW THIS SUDDENLY BECAME A BACK KICKING LESSON I used to take martial arts so that was definitely interesting to hear out!!
    20:58 It’s honestly so great that he’s changed. But really... it sucks for Kindaichi (Onion-top/Turniphead) and Kunimi (#7) cause like what Kindaichi says at 26:48 they really had never seen Kageyama like that. He was overbearing and yelled at them a lot, and while we know it’s because our Kageyama is kinda unsocial and doesn’t know how to deal with people but they really didn’t see him that way. I mean... to get to the point for a MIDDLE SCHOOL TEAM to rather lose the match then spike Kageyama’s toss? It had to be really bad. Really it was all luck or fate that brought Kageyama to Karasuno(like you said at 28:04) or else everything would still be hellish.
    31:15 You’re definitely right! Though in particular Daichi’s main thing is his steady receives and picking up after the teammates mishaps. He’s definitely doesn’t do flashy saves like libero (you’ll meet him later!) does but Daichi really does ground the team.
    32:37 It’s a three set practice game! The first set was won by Seijoh after Hinata’s failed serve and then the set just finished was the second. So yeah the score is 1-1. All matches are actually 3 sets since it’s High School until the prefecture finals which has a 5 set game!
    33:03 Okay so now you’ve met Oikawa! This isn’t a spoiler but it’s just a little heads up because I’m a little curious to know about injuries and stuff. Oikawa enters the match after a bit of time out due to a sprain (whether it’s his ankle or knee is unknown and often debated) but what you’ll notice when you watch the next episode is that Oikawa does wear a knee brace. It’s never mention about any injury that Oikawa had but it’s also definitely not the last you’ll see of Oikawa and he’ll always be wearing the brace so it’s cool to talk about it whenever. And- especially since he’s a new character and it’s probably best if I leave his practicing habits and personality up to your interpretation so that’s all I’ll say for now!

      I think the particular injury that Oikawa had for the practice game was a sprained ankle, but I could see where it could have also been his knee since that’s an injury he has recurring trouble with. I often wonder what Oikawa did to his knee in the first place, since he still has to wear a brace for it.

    • @mellymochi5778
      @mellymochi5778 3 года назад +2

      Haley Clark Actually wait you’re right... Yes it was an ankle sprain. I was thinking in the moment about the possibility of it just being a vague sprain in the manga but (I just checked Crunchyroll) it seems like it really is the ankle so THANK YOU FOR THAT!!
      And to add on to Oikawa’s knee thing- it’s seems like a knee supporter so honestly maybe he’s just wearing it to prevent an injury? Or it could be a past injury and the brace is just a general precaution? I guess there’s a lot of options.

    • @haleyclark990
      @haleyclark990 3 года назад +1

      @@mellymochi5778 No problem! Yeah, it could be just preventative but Oikawa seems to overwork himself a lot (which Iwaizumi has mentioned, I think?) so I’m betting there’s an injury that requires him to wear a brace, or he had previously injured his knee and the brace is to prevent re-injury. The world may never know, lol.

    • @mellymochi5778
      @mellymochi5778 3 года назад

      Haley Clark Yeah yeah! And especially since he does jump serves he’s definitely prone to getting things like Jumper’s Knee which is veryyyyy common in volleyball players. And yeah- Oikawa isn’t a “genius” and pretty much his whole character is the definition of hard work.
      (ANIME SPOILER TIME I GUESS) Oikawa in middle school... was definitely not in a good place and really did overwork himself cause he was frustration with lil blueberry genius Kageyama. And I guess things never really change with that cause Oikawa still does things like stay up at night to watch volleyball plays and stuff. Got to respect Iwaizumi so much for dealing with him honestly.

    • @haleyclark990
      @haleyclark990 3 года назад

      @@mellymochi5778 Yeah Iwaizumi deserves a lot of praise for putting up with Oikawa. I think because he isn’t a “genius” that that is why Oikawa pushes himself so far, but he kind of goes overboard with it. Thank goodness Iwaizumi is around, otherwise I think Oikawa would be a lot worse off (especially with his knee.) Still, he has to be commended for all of his hard work which has really paid off.

      I joined the Volleyball Community 10 years ago when I was just 7 YO , Because I was inspired by my Mom she would always play Volleyball with her friends and I will sit by the bench and watch them , at first I found it uninteresting , but one day , my Mom brought me in a Boys Volleyball Match in our City , I watched the Boys play seeing different kinds of weird hand movements , there was also a time when the player would just throw the ball and I was confused , but the most interesting thing I found the most was when one of the player from the other team did a Jump Serve , I was shock , Because it was so cool to watch. That was the moment when I got dragged in the Volleyball World , after that I tried to watch some volleyball videos on The Internet , all the Tricks were fascinating to watch. My Mom and I would watch Haikyuu every week since the beginning of its Release 5 or 6 years ago I think . After I graduated Elementary , ofcourse I went to highschool , and joined the Volleyball Club , That day they were having a practice match against other school I wont forget that , I ended up watching them straight for 2 hours standing in a corner , after the match , I went straight the Manager , I gave my Application Form. The next day , they held a party for us , freshmens. Also had a unofficial match against the seniors we ended up performing badly ofcourse because of the pressure .. Well after that match I began to practice my serving , I was rly moved by the Jump Serves , now I'm At my 3rd Year and im a Starter , I didn't played last year , because my leg was injured , we lost the game badly. But atleast now I'm good and ready to go , I'm planning to go to Nationals since it's my last year ..
      I'm a Boy btw , you might think I'm a girl because of my pfp and name 😅
      😊😊😊

    kuso does actually mean "crap" or "shit" in Japanese. It is also used as an intensifier like saying something is shit-serious "kuso-majime" or something on that line.

    23:54 Coach, he is actually a middle blocker right now. At the beginning of the game, the onion head, or turnip head, or whatever he is called, Kindaichi says that too (12:44). He said like it was a mistake, but if I remember correctly, Kageyama and Daichi decided in the last episode (or 2 episodes ago). Also, I love the way you present everything and the way you tell stories, it keeps everything interesting even though this is like my 5th time watching the anime. Thank you for your dedication and I expect even more great content! Much love :)

    Tanaka finally getting the recognition he deserves! I'm so happy about it, especially after the last episode released in season four. Also I love how you keep hyping up Daichi, who is often not as notced as he should be.
    And Oikawa showed up! One of the best characters without a doubt, even tough he may not seem like it at first. Kinda like Tsukki.
    This video was awesome as usual and as a fellow Taekwondo companion it was amazing to see your reaction to Kageyama's kick! Man, is there something you can't do?
