- Well, well.... now here is a super solid stomper: whenever I saw Obituary playing live, Donald Tardy made me move and groove from the first song on! I love his energy, his simple finesse, his power punches and whether you watch him play or just listen you can feel every bit of fun, heart and sweat he puts into each note in every song! A Groove Machine and a really nice dude to spent time with and have a beer and a laugh. Loved this!

I will NEVER forget that night in 89 when I first heard that drum fill and growl that opened up Slowly We Rot. So many feelings hit me at one time but it all boils down to love at first listen. In the days when music like that was truly new and you never heard anything like it, it was a really special experience. His drums have been the soundtrack to my life. Long live Obituary!!!
The same applies to me, only for me in 1991 it was the same song
Same here! 1990 for me, just before Cause Of Death was released. 34 years later and I’m still a fan. 🤘🏻
They got the best hair damm shampoo hole bottle wow
Slowly we rot truly is among the 5 HEAVIEST recordings of all times and besides his Brother and the devastating guitar of Trevor, it's the hard hitting Donald !!!
Phenomenal interview!
Donald is not only a great drummer, but a great dude!!!
An absolute legend! I learned how to play double bass patterns in metal playing along Causes of Death in the 90s. I even tried to mimic that excellent drum sound from the record also until I found my own thing. I feel he is very underrated and is so good to see him on this interview.
being a drummer in a traditional death metal band called throat locust, i looked up to donald alot!!!! his grooves were everything to me and he was always in the pocket and always played what the song needed!!!! absolute legend!
Big fat grooves on Yamaha drums, with that incredible signature snare sound, that's what I always think of first when I think of Donald Tardy. Thank you for being such a genuine, loyal human being and the driving force behind Obituary for all these years. To keep doing the same thing, with the same tenacity, with the same people, and companies takes alot of discipline! I doubt it's about the money becaue I'll bet there's not much to go around after it's all said and done. I still feel your incredible passion in the music and your performances. YOU'RE AN ABSOLUTE BEAST ON THOSE DRUMS! I love how you always emphasize groove first. Thank you for all the joy and inspiration! Thank you, as well, to the host of "Drum Talk"...These are fabulous interviews, and the live clips are killer! Cheers to you both and all the Obituary fans!
Like I commented in the clip too, Obituary is the most alive/living deathmetal band there is. Organic yet tight like a tiger! Compliments to those guys and especially Donald! What an awesome drummer!
Awesome interview, and I loved what he said about timing, and being purposefully a little behind the beat, and calling it not a flaw, but a talent. I fully agree, it gives a very particular flavor to the sound. Lars Ulrich does it too, and ignorant people attribute it to incompetence, when it is completely deliberate.
Donald is a powerhouse!
I can't believe how fucking SICK Obituary sounds live. These guys have been around for 40 years and they're still one of the best live shows I've heard. Legends ! Cheers
Solid drummer and a stand-up guy. Obituary forever.
Donald is awesome! I heard Xecutioner in 87 from tape trading. Had Sepultura on the other side.
Always thought Obituary was the heaviest and still think they are. He might not be the fastest or most technical but he IS the heaviest drummer on the planet.
P.S. I play Yamaha drums too. I have been playing Death Metal since 1986.
One of my favorites 😊
The best drum sound in death metal. One of the most solid drummers regardless of genre….love this man.
My all time favorite drummer. Always gets me moving.
All i can say is, thank you. Don is the man \,,/ Early Obituary destroys all.
You named it !!!
absolute legend! the tighest of drummers!
That was absolutely awesome Donald thanks so much for your valuable incite. Definitely one of my favourite drummers of all time. Never underestimate the groove and tasty drumming style no other drummer posesses.
So insightful, Mr. Tardy is! Much respect for this man and Obituary’s Floridian swamp sound 🙏🏻
Thanks for this episode 🤘
An absolutely killer drummer.👍👍🤘
Thank you so much! One of my favourite drummers ever and big influence for me!
love obituary.
the music, of course, but these down to earth guys ... very, very, nice guys
pls keep on doing what you've been doing all the time - life long fan for sure
In a world that is now full of drummers that want to sound like machines someone like Donald with his feel, his groove, and his musicianship in this Death Metal genre is in a league of his own!! For me one of the best metal drummers ever!!! Donald Tardy, thank you for all these years of providing excellent drumming for a great band like Obituary!!!
Love his drum sound on the end complete album.Great drummer.
The way Obituary grooves live is amazing, they can slow down and speed up in a way that just rips the heavyness from those riffs!
Now I finally know where the "Kill for me" tribal thing came from; just plain ol' inspiration and creativity. Cool story!
Very cool interview!
Legend, loved Obituary since Cause of Death.
Donald is One of the cleanest metal drumers
In history
🤘 Greetings from cartagena Colombia
The only metalhead in town
this is great, World Demise is one of my favorite album, such tasty grooves on it!
I met him.Nive guy.We we're taking he said do you hit you scare hard and bass drums hard I said yes.Hr said good.we are old school no triggers.Groove is missing in New Death metal.Old school is the best school.
love World Demise, my favourite
So cool heard Donald pay tribute to Sean, two masters
Awesome!!! 💀🐱😎👍
DT is a CLASS ACT!!!!!
Super sympa ! Super fonsdé également 🎉
Great Drummer , Great Video !
классно он сказал в конце: " я не получил никакого удовольствия, записывая первые два альбома😅😅😅😅"
04/09/1990 Obituary, Morgoth, Demolition Hammer - Live Station, Dortmund, Germany - I was fhere 🥁 🔥 🔥🔥
Loved Cause of Death and still listen to it. Not a blast beat anywhere on the album and perhaps that's why it still stands up today. Don's an under rated drummer within the genre I think.
Major inspiration... Very thing that he holds his right stick quite to the middle. It seems to be a "short" stick...
Yeah, there is something with vitamin d and the sun. Greetings, not to say hails, to one of the OG hard hitting Drum Warslugs Donald ! from a fellow click tight warslug
I noticed in the video clips that he is using a double pedal but still has two bass drums. Interesting...
They should play "Kill For Me" at every show
Donald!!!!
I remember from my teenage impressions 3 most definitive drummers were Lombardo, Sandoval and Don Tardy. Then black metal guys appeared.
If Paul Speckmann was in the frame at any point instead of Donald no one would notice lol
History has it that ...Neolithic cultures from China had the first appearance of drums made from alligator skins 5500 B.C.
What in the fuck was that intro?
