Breaking Benjamin lyrics have always played with like switching between hope and hopelessness and desperation and determination
it's always what's drawn me to them at least

This song is basically a message and apology to future generations. We messed up the world. We created a mess that they are now inheriting. We are the dark side of humanity. We are the dark of you, so become the light of us. This song is calling out to the next generation to become the light. Or in his words "Save this selfish world".
That's a very good interpretation of the song, and makes a lot of sense.
Breaking Benjamin is one of my favorite bands, they have a lot of powerful lyrics and awesome instrumental arrangements, one of my favorites is Anthem of the Angels which has cellos with the guitars and sounds like a classical arrangement and it’s about losing someone you love
They do such sad songs omg!! 😩
Which is why I love them, they have their own style and Ben the singer has such a sad voice too (you can legit hear the pain in all of their songs!!)

It is interesting that you brought up the whole alcohol thing because the lead singer Benjamin Burnley actually used to be an Alcoholic until he almost drank himself to death, and he was lucky enough to survive and they released their album Dark Before Dawn shortly after he got better where he talked about his struggles with alcohol and how he is stronger because of it. And since then Benjamin loves to weave messages like that into their last few albums. Probably one of the best songs of that album that you should definitely check out is When Angels Fall
Yay! I'm really glad you liked it. I wasn't sure if I should start you with this song since it's so chill, but it's the one that was in my head at the time. Breaking Benjamin is one of my all time top favorite bands. They've been around for a while so if you're liking it it'd be awesome to get some more reactions and there's a lot of material!
This song is on the second newest album witch follows the journey of a man who's dealing with the kidnapping and murder of his daughter. It's a deep, dark, and heartbreaking story, but also a beautiful one. They did a video trilogy with three of the songs to tell the story as well (I might have requested those a while ago but I can't remember). If you're up for it it would be so cool if you could do those! It starts with Red Cold River, then Torn in Two, and then Tourniquet

Breaking Benjamin is easily one the greatest lyrical bands. I highly recommend you check out the Aurora version of “Dear Agony”.
