- Fan Friday Request:
"Could you post the interview Dave did with Peter Gabriel? I want to say it happened in the mid-2000s at some point. There's a moment where Gabriel says, "there was a lot of crying and msturbating...", and Dave then says, "sounds like my honeymoon!". Would love to see this again, thanks.
Matt

Welcome to the Letterman RUclips Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era. Развлечения
Peter is soft spoken yet his words are powerful.
I've never seen Peter Gabriel on late night tv. Such class and funny. He's got an interesting sense of humor, but most of his music seems so emotional and in touch with the soul.
Was fortunate enough to see him recently in Boston. He, Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché are still at the top of their game, and the latest members of the band are super talented.
I was at that concert, too!! An amazing show!!
Peter is a Genius ❤
The title phrasing piqued my interest. Was not disappointed by the interview. Love you PG!
I would love to meet him some day. I have to go now Supper's Ready.
Lol
Me I'm just a lawnmower you tell me by the way I walk.
My favorite song. Period.
❤
I have had the pleasure of spending time with him on many occasions and as you can tell in this interview he is a very funny man.
the man is up there with Lennon/McCartney, Brian Wilson, Harry Nilsson, Jeff Lynn as far as songwriting and singing ability. one of my heroes. listen to The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis and you will understand what i mean.
the Lamb is my favorite album of all time along with "Selling England" This guy and actually Genesis were probably the most talent any band has packed. Look at what came out of the band, Peter Gabriel and Phil Solo careers, Mike and The Mechanics, Bankstatement and then Tony Banks "Still", and the much overlooked but extremely talented solo career of Steve Hackett. Not to forget even Anthony Phillips has released over 15 albums, and if you really want to hear fabulous music, listen to "The Geese and the Ghost" album of his, which is a masterpiece in it's own right. And then here was Genesis that continued through the 90's. Amazing achievement by this group of characters.
@@steelydan133 , so true. how fascinating it would be if all 5 of the guys from Selling and The Lamb, got back together and did something of an album together, or just Tony and Peter if all 5 is asking too much? Tony's keyboard songwriting and playing on all those albums is remarkable and Peter's mutli instrumental (piano, flute) songwriting, lyrical , and vox abilities are up there with Lennon, Bowie, Brian Wilson....i would die to here it
@@owlperchedsilo3745 Agree, the reason I have always admired Genesis was that their lyrics were always very intellectual, like works of art, with emotions not directly out there but it makes you think what the song maybe about. Lamb itself can have so many interpretations, and so does Supper's Ready or The Musical Box. It's very high class fiction, and their Public School upbringing where you can't express your emotions directly had a lot to do with that and hence it appeals to a certain audience. The emotions are more expressed in the music. Awesome band

It's great that Dave dug a little into the old Genesis world with Peter. Some of my favorite stuff.
I was shocked when Dave acted like he didn't know Peter was talking about THE Genesis being his old band, but he was just playing clueless interviewer. Whenever he did an interview with a musician, they were either currently number one or Dave was a fan and wanted to talk to them.
@@EightPieceBox I was thinking, “Did Peter Gabriel name all of his bands Genesis?” because I’m sure he was in bands before that one.
@@kstepko Yeah, I think that's what Letterman was asking him. Like, "Which bands with silly names were you in before you hit the big time?"
The problem is that Dave had no minimal idea of we was asking or talking about, which is quite sad.
Peter Gabriel is such a Great Singer.
He's a professional
@@Rigel7WasAlreadyUsed exactly, He Was originally part of the Band Genesis until 1975 when he went his own way and became a Talented Singer.
Phenomenal talent!
@@thechuckjosechannel.2702 I bet people would pay to hear him sing.
@@Rigel7WasAlreadyUsed I would because I like him just like the entirety of Oldies music. He may be expensive but I like his music. I would pay him if I ever met him at a Concert.
Fun Fact: Sid McGinnis toured in Peter’s band in 1978. There’s a YT video of their Rockpalast performance.
yes he was, just before david rhodes took over in 1980. i think he mentionned it in this same interview that was edited out of this clip
That must have been a great reunion for then on the show.
I absolutely love Peter Gabriel
Me too. Especially early Genesis years.
Selling England by the Pound was when I noticed Genesis, still like it best. Thanks Peter and Dave!
So good, though my favourite is ‘Foxtrot’ 😊
Peter is a nice guy..and a music legend.
I was in the audience at this taping!!!
Simple, Peter is a G E N I U S...
Hero. What a creative genius.
Love the classic Genesis lineup with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett !
Usually after a comment like "Sounds like my honeymoon", Dave would say "I don't know what that means!" LOL!
Well, that was just crazy. You won't get interviews like that anymore.
Legend
Hell yes, this was my request! Thanks, guys!!
Thank you for requesting this. It’s been wonderful to watch!!!
Going to see him live in June!
Oh you lucky!
Going in Sept. MSG
Sept. 11 Toronto.I have been waiting since 1973.Can’t wait
Going to see him in October. Currently re-binging the man’s whole career, so talented and unique in every meaning of the word
The So tour is still one of the best I've ever seen.
It looked to me like Dave had done his homework and was waiting for PG to say Garden Wall which was one half of what became Genesis. The other half was The Anon.
Agreed but I think Peter instantly sussed it and just wanted to keep the interview moving along
Great interview
So I can just consider the last decade some kind of long, lonely honeymoon?
Peter nervous in that chair rocking back and forth.
I loved Genesis
🌜🦋🦋 love him 🦋🦋🌛
Two intelligent men having a low brow conversation.
Wasn't that the title of one of his albums?
Pete!
I thought that was the title of a new song 😅
They went to the school just up the road from mine, I went to St. Dominics in Godalming in Surrey. Look it up !
Where is part 2 ?
It's strange that Peter responded to Dave saying that the name of his first group was Genesis. In fact, he was in several bands before Genesis, including Garden Wall. Did he just somehow forget about all that by the time of this interview?
Sounds like that's what Dave was getting at but I guess Pete just wanted to keep answers short and to the point.
Garden Wall never got a record deal, so maybe not worth mentioning, plus Tony was in it, which led to Genesis soon. The first band of any significance was Genesis.
Viewer discretion is advised! 😄😆
better than killing and laughing. 😁
Looks like the Arab awakening went back to sleep.

@@opinionsforsale btw, those are 11 year "decades"?

I wonder what Peter's views of South Africa are in 2023 and the current events around the world. Oh wait, we're not allowed an opinion, my bad.
Horrible interview- Dave was so ignorant. He couldn’t even get the facts presented about children right. Also, he also got involved with the human rights campaign fairly early in his career- Dave seemed to imply it was a recent endeavor. He presented a picture of Peter’s performance art wearing a dress but doesn’t let him explain. Dave is possibly the most overrated talk show host ever.
Well, the bar is pretty low, I guess since Dave was actually one of the best.
What stories Mr. Gabriel shares are very entertaining and afford us a glimpse of his past. ❤🩹
