Love the fact that you go all the way back to DS. Love the game as I enjoy the underdog games such as DS. I also prefer the original rules however I appreciate bits and pieces from new core sets. Also on the bgg there is a combined rules set which ticks all the right boxes.
There are bits of the new system I like. I am sort of playing a custom mix, although it is predominantly version one rules. I prefer the item draws at the bonfire in the new edition, and although it makes things a little easier I like the "11th hit point" because it always felt to me like it should work that way anyway. I like the cleanness of the combined block and dodge, but I still think I lean more towards the original rules on that one.
It's a lovely solo game. I really enjoy setting it up and losing a whole evening to it by myself. I play two characters though; that's my favourite way to do it.
Dude strait up thanks for this. I just purchaced a bundle with all 3 expantions. Now i know why they were sold togeather, im so happy and relieved . ThANKYOU.
So you've got the core set, the character pack, the phantoms pack, and the explorers pack all in one bundle? That's excellent. That is, to me, the "complete" core experience. Anything else you want to pick up after that is just gravy. I hope you have fun with it all.
The miniatures are good. The boss monsters are actually excellent. They may not be as good as you see in some other games, but I like them a lot. Do be aware of the scaling though. They are quite a bit larger than a lot of miniatures, so if scale is important to you, you might want to check out a size comparison first.
What can I add? Typical, I agree with everything you stated in the video, just glad you got this expansion. Mimics are NASTY. Oh, I loved what you said about the Phantoms expansion. That is the only one of the three I havent played with. It seemed like too many moving pieces to keep track of, but the way you described it as rounding out the video game to table experience makes me want to give it a try. (I nearly sold it) Will be looking out for when you pick that one up as well.
I just bought the core set of Dark Souls last night. also bought Heroes of Black Reach. miniature market had a 40% off weekend clearance special and both were included. it will be a while before I receive it though miniature market is super slow to ship orders.
Nice. I've never played any of the Devil Pig "Heroes" games, but always wanted to give Black Reach a shot. I hope you enjoy Dark Souls as much as I do!
Wasn't much of this stretch goals from the Kickstarter? I often think about getting this game, but I really don't think I'm going to buy many more boardgames in general. I have become much more focused on getting all my historical stuff done lately and playing old SPI wargames.
Yeah, they basically built expansions for retail through the campaign, so they unlocked the character set and the armour set, which got rolled into the Character Expansion, the summons set and the invaders set, which got rolled into the Phantoms Expansion, and then this stuff was the Core Set Expansion, which they renamed and I believe swapped around a few things to make it more attractive as a retail package. I'm not sure much, if anything, was exclusive. But I didn't pay a huge amount of attention to the campaign at the time as I hadn't even played the video game and I wasn't backing Kickstarters anyway. You have enough epic scale painting ahead of you to fill up your hobby hours for some time. You don't need any more games!
The video games definitely aren't for everyone. DS3 is one of my favourite video games ever, but I've never played DS1 or DS2, and haven't given Elden Ring a shot yet.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I have way more fun just watching Carbot's videos on Elden Ring (Rather than playing it myself). I get the impression it is quite challenging!

One of my favorite games and a really great solo game! Thanks

@@bonepileofficial Great price. Have fun with it!
I do often get tempted to buy these for the miniatures

This game loves to stack the pressure on. The mimics are such a fun addition!

When's the dark souls full review out?
It's a long gestating "Stick to the Script" review. The rough outline is all done. I just need to tie it all together.
Hmm... I tried the video game before, it just wasn't for me. But I like these miniatures, very cool!!

I enjoyed watching the Game Grumps muddle through Elden Ring
