What's your favourite bass technique? 🤔👇🏻
First…21 and 23
All of them. They are all my favorite.
Slappiddy slap of course :D
@@buncharandomness7693 Good answer 🤣
TAPP and SLAPPP
Edit: hey that rhymes!
When we have to fight the devil in a bass duel. I choose Charles as our champion.
What a truly wonderful complement!
Check out his trip to Georgia video. Totally been there done that!
Devil saw this video and just surrendered.
Yoo
You should play your guitar with him, do a collab... maybe make a song about Egg
Loved the seamless transitions and the little jokes throughout! The music, ideas, and delivery are fantastic 👏
Yoo love your channel
Couldn't have said it better!! but I still wanted to leave an additional comment.
For support!
No spaghetti 😢
jokes? what jokes, it was all serious
Enjoyed the talent, enjoyed the song, enjoyed the humor, and was feeling the enjoyment Charles has playing this instrument.
I got you beat! The video has ended and I am still enjoying it! But other than that you translated my wow very well, so thank you for saving me the trouble - my words are still a bit in trance. I think I'll just replay the video. Have an awesome day! :D
My gosh the part at 1:11, I can't stop listening to this whole piece🔥🔥🔥
Same. Can someone recommend some music in the similar style?
what's really amazing is that you merged all of these techniques into one coherent song that is actually fun to listen to!! fking awesome
Thanks!
I think it’s wonderful that many of those who view/subscribe to Charles’ channel are observant, knowledgeable, and appreciative. I hope his playing will inspire any musicians young enough to learn properly by the best tutor available and practice those thousands of hours Charles posted a video about a while back. Perhaps pure talent hasn’t been killed off by gimmicks afterall. Charles gives me hope for the future of music.
Well said, I loved this video but hadnt thought of that angle.
Came here to say exactly the same thing! After you've finished being impressed you can rewind, sit back, close your eyes, and just enjoy the music (... and the awesome power of BASS!)
@@NealVan is it ever too late to learn an instrument?
That Flamenco at 1:35 was one of the coolest things I've ever heard on a bass. I NEED more bass Flamenco!
flamenco would sound even better with more strings!
Sounds like what you need is more Primus. And you can never have enough Primus
There's a part of The Lesson where Victor Wooten does it, which Charles does in his cover of it as well. :)
You should listen to some Robert Trujillo basslines he uses Flamenco style
Adam Ben Ezra - Flamenco, you're welcome ;)
I discovered you yesterday. It was a video of you doing a rendition of californiacation and can't stop by the Red Hot chili peppers. Today I took a deep dive into your content. I've been watching your videos for the last 2 hours. I even watched the story about you and all the work you put into playing the bass. It was the story of your growth. 1 minute ago and for a long time Flea was my favorite bass player of all time. You just took that spot. You are absolutely phenomenal, and I love your content. Thank you for the gift that you're sharing with all of us. Don't ever stop. 💯🔥
You are one of, if not the best bass player in the world. I think this will become a more conventionally held opinion as you get a little bit older and as the frame of a RUclipsr-first fades. You have a perfect technique, you can play literally anything, you do play literally everything, and it's asinine how good your bass parts are whilst getting better from video to video.
That was fantastic. I'll bet this video will have excellent *_retention_* because I really wanted to hang in there for all 51 (guessing most viewers will do the same). Glad I did. Outstanding video, Charles.
This is literally and sincerely one of the greatest things I've ever heard. I watched your "White Christmas" and it made me tear up with that inexplicable emotion that only music can give you. AWESOME
Charles bro you are sincerely one of the best to ever do it brotha....I cannot overstate how educational and inspiring this was. I've put over 15 years into the guitar, and Les Claypool recently inspired me to play bass, but you have really given something to strive towards, thankyou for your contribution to the world of music 🙏
Your playing has always been brilliant and diverse. Thank you for your incredible content Charles!
I'm 100% saving this as a quick go-to reference for different styles of play. Thanks, this is super helpful and I can do some fun stuff!!
I too would like to play bass with my mind
The depth of Ur prowess never ceases to amaze (and the timing of the releases of Ur compositions always compliments whatever happens to be going on in my life at the time..and this is a big time for me). Thanks man
There's nobody who compares to you, you're the best bass player ever! Both in terms of technique, innovation and originality!
Honestly, i really envy you. I've been playing the bass for 12 years, yet I'm not even close to your level... But your videos give me motivation to keep playing! So please, keeper doing what you do! You're literally inspiring millions of people!
Well, once you learn no. 51, the others all sort of fall into place
This guy is EPIC
I've never seen so much bass insanity within 2 minutes like this in my whole career, I mean I've seen Cliff shredding, Jason picking, Robert playing flamenco on bass, but not this insane 50 techniques on display for such a short piece. Would gladly fire Robert just in case you want to apply as our bass player.😆Rock On!🤟

The real Kirk Whammet! 😯
Do you think he would be able to do this all live on one bass guitar though? Cliff didn't have youtube editing in his day.
poor Robert
The world is not yet prepared to understand how amazing you are on bass dude. Every video you upload is a piece of art. Impressive.
I keep coming back to this video, over and over. It’s been several weeks now… Wonderful piece, absolutely love it.
I have a hard time getting my stereo to make music, I find this just incredible. Thanks for the video you made my evening. Play through.
51 styles and Charles expertly demonstrates them all.
Especially that last one. The Jedi mind slap. *chef's kiss* 😂
he's god, he invented them all.
Charles you actually performed 53 techniques in one bass composition! You left out Talkbox with octave pedal. You left out several times…multiple techniques combined with looping station. You’re growth as a performer and composer are spectacular. However, your growth as a RUclips creator has grown even more and much faster. I began watching your channel about 5 years ago. You posted videos without headphones on, playing many original and classical compositions in beautiful surroundings and had very few subscribers and views. This is what I mean about you RUclips skills compared to your amazing bass and keyboard skills which took a lifetime to learn and perfect. You manage to have found a happy medium now. Posting extremely creative videos without any loss of playing content. That is an accomplishment worthy of millions of subscribers! I’ll continue to watch as long as I continue to live. BTW, I’m 61 and have been a pro touring multi-instrumentalist from 1974 through 2016. A surgeon ended my career and got away with it. At my 100% best, I didn’t have the skills you possess even though I was one of the top touring and studio players in my 30s through 50s. Your music brings me joy! Thank you so much!!

loved this sincere comment man!
That part from volume swells on
Is super amazing.
It's my favorite ❤️❤️
#50 was incredible. I've never seen such amazing technique. Loved it.
Charles is out of this world. Love how you use all of those techniques and still play tasty and musically. Made me pick up my bass more frequently to learn some more styles

I had to stop playing bass with my mind because I kept blowing speakers. I appreciate both the playing and the humor. Inspiring!

I like them all! Gotta say the slappity slap was immediately such a jump in "oh yes this feels good!", but so many things after it were also great. The talkbox was a nice treat.
Bloody hell... I am not sure if I am even qualified enough to be allowed to watch your videos. You are ACE! While using all those techniques, you are still musical. Totally mind blowing! Love it.
I love the way he adds one more way just for good measure 🤘👍
Ladies, Gentlemen, Men, Women, People of all ages and sizes, HE'A DONE IT AGAIN
MAN!!! What a incredible sound. This song felt my heart
This was extremely fun to watch. Thanks
I've come full circle! From disregarding you as a smirky jock to being way too jealous of your skills to watching very few "acceptable" videos in a loop to instaclicking every new video. Now this one is amazing and very funny AND such a good starting point to be creative with playstyles. Thank you Charles
I sub'd right away, after being blown away from my very first CB vid.
Swallowed my pride as a person with less than 1% of his bass skills.
Smirky I can see, but jock?
@@TheCSJones pure prejudice for no reason. I am happy this phase is long gone haha

I cant believe that you made a song with 51 techniques (almost) and managed to keep it musical
Are you implying I didn't actually play with my mind?
@@CharlesBerthoud nevermind haha, you can play with every possible technique!
@@CharlesBerthoud I think playing with your mind was believable. But that third hand had nails way too nice to believably be spent practicing bass for hours on the daily.
Oh we believe in the mind play and the third hand as well.
It is the two pick techniques that are currently under investigation by bass inquisition.
@@srsbsns7673 He just had that third arm added to improve his ski-boxing.
Man, that was awesome! Beautiful melody/harmony, and the techniques were applying in such a natural way, I love it!
the melody with the talkbox give me chills its so good
Smooth as glass all the way through. Unbelievably well played. And the three hand technique, you don't see that often enough.
I'm just so impressed, such even weird techniques for such a beautiful music!
It’s not easy too keep being creative - you don’t grow a channel without good ideas and great execution. Hats off Charles 🎩
I like how he almost uses the bass how he's having a conversation back and forth with the bass and himself or at least is what it seems like too me he's doing very cool nice job Charles.
Wonderful! You managed to show so many techniques in actually such a groovy and beautiful solo.
Wow! Imposible no verlo al menos 2 veces seguidas… Bravo!!! 👏 Todo un arte musical. 👍
1:27 this sweep 🍻👍🤘
Charles, as a Bassist I feel obligated to say that you are truly a master of your craft and are an inspiration to us all. The Bass community is lucky to have to you! You are practically the Ichika Nito of Bass RUclips!
👆🏿👆🏿 Congratulations, you have been selected among my winners this week message me acknowledge your prize🎁🎁🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊....
Simplesmente o melhor youtuber baixista da atualidade, criatividade absurda e execução perfeita!
Simply the best bassist youtuber, astonishingly creative and perfectly executed!
mas e o davie504?
Man, i can't express how much I LOVE the natural harmonics part
Charles, you are always an incredible
bassist, it’s axiomatic; but the entertainment value that you are ever bringing to the table is what keeps me coming back for more.
Like Pavlov’s dog, when your name comes across the RUclips screen my ears perk up in anticipation of having them, along with my face, melted off of my head from the sounds that I know I’m going to be treated to.
👍😎👍
This is your best video yet. Great idea, and executed beautifully. Really nice job.
The amount of talent this guy has is out of this world
I learned so much from this vid! Amazing🔥
Dude! So much talent and skill! It is astounding that even you showing various techniques holds together a single piece of music that rocks out. Favorites answer: To see? Double tapping. To hear? Any of the harmonics and the eBow.
Possibly the most epic Charles video I've seen yet! Love the the variety of the music per each style too
I think i'm closer to play it with my mind than getting anywhere near your level in any other technique 😂
Amazing as always Charly 👏👏
…Wtf, to make something incredibly difficult to play, interesting to watch AND sound amazing is such an accomplishment. Great job!
Omg, i love this video. I appreciate the way you play with very nice styles and sounds.
I've been playing classical guitar for 23 years and I'm envious of your flamenco technique *_º
I love you Charles. You are an amazing musician 🙀😿💯
Ok I know some of these are made as jokes, but some others are pure magic. Like how does that even make a sound??? Great video Charles! Thanks for all the hard work. :)
You’ve mastered the 51st technique so well. Bravo! 👏👏👏
Great stuff...impressive as always! Thanks for sharing your talent and humor 😀
Simply stunning is every way!!!!!!!!
You just killed it this time, damn.
So sweet... feel, technique, creativity, humor... love you man!
Playing the bass with your mind is simply the best technics: no strings wear-out, so eco!
Como siempre, fenomenal!!! Thumbs up!!!
That was FANTASTIC,,,best sounding talk box I have ever heard ,,,THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO 🎸🤠 from Arkansas USA
Strong work Mr. Bass. Amazing how you make it all sound like you "slappa th' bass".....just amazing. Play on.
This is simply a masterpiece.
I humbly bow down before your musical greatness and such. Fuck this was great!
Oh yes! This is brilliant! Love your mix of skill and being a goofball. I think this is my fave video to date.
Wow I love the sound with talkbox!! Just amazing
This man really must be the living embodiment of Bass.

it sounds so beautiful 😳😳😳
Brilliant as always Charles, E bow and talkbox were my favourites.
I just watched this video and I don't understand how it only has 500k views
I see you from Guatemala city , and you and Davie inspired me to learn bass, I hope one Day become an excellent bassist as both of you. Love you guys!
I wouldn't have even been able to come up with all of these (though teeth seems painful)! Great work Charles, keep it up.
That's probably the most you'll ever see me play with my teeth 🤣
CHARLESSSSS
If you liked this, I recommend you check out Nate Navarro's "40 techniques in One Bass Solo" . It's fantastic too but quite different. It's interesting to compare these two
I absolutely adore that Charles has made more videos where he’s mostly playing
The effort to put this ensemble together must've been incredible
Maldición se pasó!!! Ya ningún otro bajista me parece increíble.
2:47 wait, what?!
Geddy Lee would be very impressed with you good sir! You did an awesome job playing! All of the Bass Techniques sound incredible!
👍👍🎉😉
I think you are the best, you inspire me and make me want to do it.
you miss a technique ... even though it probably would have violated youtube's terms for explicit content..😶
I call this technique "Playing P Bass with a PP".
Ah yes the old Murderface technique
Ah yea, my favorite technique, *[insert very specific thing that would get me in trouble at this age]*
My favorite technique(s) because they seem the most difficult is #41 Double Thumb-Double Pick, #29 Secret Harmonic, and #32 Sweeping,
Charles is like the freaking Superman of bass guitar. I've never seen anyone come close to what he can do.
Charles, you’ve outdone yourself. This is really special.

That sweeping sounded amazing!!! Time to go try and find more of it
Easily one of the best informational videos on the internet. Thanks
Outstanding, bass-brother.
I actually use my basses now for making fire in my chimney - great Charles !!!
What a beautiful interpretation, truly s genius of your art.
Man! You should definitely do more with that talk box!
You are a grate musician bro... very good taste and very skillful... gifted performer. Ejoy
excellent video. you have so mich talent and a god given gift to make that bass sing
excellent playing, excellent video!
You are totally crazy mann.. Really well done. I have never seen any thing like this.. Thumbs up
Always entertaining and mind blowing all at the same time. Nicely done Charles.
my absolute favorite video you made thus far
