Start by positioning the barbell on a squat rack at about chest height. Make sure the bar is loaded with an appropriate weight for your strength level.
Stand facing the bar with your feet shoulder-width apart or slightly wider. Your toes should be slightly pointed outward.
Step under the bar and position it across your upper back, resting it on your trapezius muscles. Grip the bar firmly with your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
Lift the bar off the rack by straightening your legs, keeping your chest up and your back straight.
Take a step or two back to clear the rack, and set your feet firmly on the ground, maintaining the shoulder-width stance or slightly wider.
Initiate the squat by bending your knees and hips simultaneously, lowering your body down as if you're sitting back into a chair.
Keep your chest up, back straight, and core engaged throughout the movement. Descend until your thighs are at least parallel to the ground or slightly below, ensuring your knees track over your toes and don't collapse inward.
Pause briefly at the bottom of the squat, then drive through your heels to push yourself back up to the starting position, fully extending your hips and knees.
Exhale as you push back up, and maintain control of the barbell throughout the entire movement.
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, ensuring proper form and technique with each rep.
Once finished, carefully walk the barbell back into the squat rack and lower it onto the safety pins.
Remember to start with lighter weights to master the technique before gradually increasing the load. It's also essential to warm up adequately before performing heavy squats to prevent injury. If you're new to squatting or unsure about your form, consider seeking guidance from a certified personal trainer.
