I was having such a bad time of it that I was considering melting my A1. However, your explanations were so thorough yet succinct that I gave the A1 another chance and now have decided to keep it
Same here! Yesterday was my first time flying the ship and I really was not enjoying learning the bombs😅 I still hate that you need to get clothes in order to lock onto a Target though. If the ground base you were attacking had a lot of turrets, it would be hard to get close enough to actually get the reticle on your target😅😅
This video made me go from bashing my head against the A1 cockpit to actually being able to use it. Thank you for such a concise guide, very very helpful
A more intuitive method could be inspired by real fighter jets' CCRP with a TDP, delegating pre-launch preparations mainly to the co-pilot. Proposed Operation: - Operate predominantly in "target of opportunity" mode, allowing pilots to designate targets rather than being pre-assigned. Integration with new map markers or direct target input from AWACS could be considered later. - Upon spotting a target, the co-pilot engages TDP mode. This action switches their view to a dedicated targeting camera beneath the bomber. - Once a target is designated, the co-pilot can make fine-tune adjustments using a hat switch or similar control. - The co-pilot sets the launch pattern, determining the number of bombs, release sequence, interval between drops, fuse type, and other parameters as necessary. If the target and release pattern are predetermined, these configurations can be made prior to takeoff or during flight. - The pilot aligns the ship with the target marker and maintains a steady flight path. To initiate the bombing, the pilot holds down the release button 5 seconds before the cue, authorising the computer to execute the pre-set bomb release. Once the bombs are deployed, the pilot can swiftly exit the area. It's also quite vexing that this isn't actually documented anywhere. It's not in the knowledge base, or galactopedia, or even the community wiki.
@chrishoppner150, DCS player??? I like what you are thinking, and would love to see CIG really flesh-out bombing more in the game. As CitizenCon showed us in the SQ42 info the game will be getting massive changes to how ships fly, target, and shoot, so there is a very big possibility bombing is going to get reworked at some point.
Much like yourself, I'd love to see a proper CCIP & CCRP mode implemented along with supporting ancillary tools such as laser designation (would be cool to have friendlies lasing targets). I'd also like to see proper ripple functionality as opposed to have we have now. Hopefully we see more bomb types too such as rocket assisted ones akin to some of the runway bombs we see IRL.
Very well done. Includes bindings and EXPLANATIONS of bindings to be able to be successful. First video I have seen which explains how to differentiate between missiles and bombs if a ship has both. Subscribed and look forward to your past and future videos.
@alphonse11, I'm sure the A1 will be able to drop various types of bombs if they are added to the game. I would like to see an option to drop "clusters" of bombs, more than one at a time, groups of two, three, or four all dropping at the same time would be very cool I think.
@@TieJax I havent flown the A1 but can you not already do that? I can in my A2. Use the same button you would use to select how many missiles you want to shoot at once
@@ProfessorBooty69 Let me clarify, you can select and drop more than one bomb at a time, I do it in the video. But the release time (time in between each bomb getting released) is very slow. I would like to see all bombs released at the same time when more than one is selected.
You can also use math in a very broad factor. Alt, speed, speed of target(s), delay of payload. ( ex. boosting past a moving target at a speed of 320mps, at an alt 0f 500m-1000m, and dropping a payload at 1.5km-2.5km ahead of a target moving at 220mps, will retire the target.) You don't need the "circle" in the end. The A1 needs the ability to "carpet bomb." It's essentially done over by the A2 aside from speed and it's small size.
I need more testing but the bigger/smaller hud seems to give a better sense of the spread/aoe of many bombs, thanks tk the delay. The speed of flight, angle of release and I assume at some point atmospheric density will affect it beyond this manual “crosshair bloom” but eh. More reason to fly it!
Very helpful video, subscribed. I wish CIG would release proper supporting documentation for these ships; ideally in the form of a flight manual. Out of curiosity what is your peripheral set up? I've been trying to get back into the game and lost all my bindings, as such I'm currently fighting with reconfiguring everything while attempting to take on board all the new keybinds.

@leibniz75th24, Thanks so much for watching and subscribing to the channel. There are already some great videos out on mining but I might give it a try.
I've been wondering; if you have to fly at a low speed to make sure you don't add too much space to the dropping bombs does that mean that a higher altitude drop would be efficient? If thats the case how high can you target something? I'd imagine if you are doing a low pass on a target and you are facing ballistas for example you're gonna have a bad time. But if you are high enough, can splash multiple bombs outside of AA range you'll being doing some work. Great video btw. Been waiting for this ship for a loooooong time but can't bomb to save my life. lol Subbed
@evanelevan, Due to the slow release speed of the bombs your speed is more of a factor than the elevation. A high release at a very low speed will make the bomb's impact closer.
sometimes more important that the actual speed is being consistent with your motion--the more adjustments made during flight will jerk the bomb/sight around, as you can see the first time he drops 2 simultaneous bombs. you can do fast runs but itll be much easier with a single bomb, and it requires a lot of practice to time the delay right. that said, you can also try to do multiple passes with a single group of queued bombs... if you are quick enough and dont bank too hard. this is one of the most fun ships to learn, imo.
I think bombing will be a lot more interesting when the bombs destroy whatever the target is hiding in rather than them being invulnerable. They should have just kept it where the bombs kill through walls. It's better than them not being useful at all. They could have added AA defenses around places like Jumptown events and such. Players in control of JT could activate the turrets which would help protect them from bombs and other attackers.
@Psychobob, They have a lot of work to do on bombs. The targeting is not good, the damage is not applied correctly, and the deployment of the bombs is way too slow. CIG needs to take a look at how bombs are done in DCS.
@Dracounguis, Yep CIG has some work to do on this, I hope they look at DCS for inspiration. I don't think we need the high level of realism of DCS, but pulling some of the better aspects of missiles and bombs from that game would be nice. ok but you did actually say what buttons youre pushing to pull up the white and green circle. is it T for both? a different button for the white circle and T for the green?
@mrblobby6284, It is the same button. Use the "Bombs - Toggle Desired Impact Point (Tap)" key bind. Hit it once to get the white circle, then again to lock in the impact point (green circle).
I still think 'bombers' need a bombardier. Maybe a remote turret that has the bombing reticle. Maybe not the A1 because the bombs are smaller, but the A2 is just too much griefing power in one person's hands. At least requiring a second person would make it a bit more reasonable?
is it me or is the bomb impact reticle bugged? it rarely appears for me. idk if the A2 suffers from this since i havnt used it in a long time. But the A1 seems to have a bugged bomb impact point, i remember that with the A2 i could select the impact point from Kilometers away. with the A1 i have to get fortunate that the circle will even appear
@creativename2655, IT only seems to appear on the ground w/o a target if you are low. If there is a target I can get the reticle 9blue/white) to appear and then lock the target (turns green). Could also be that the S5 bombs have a shorter range than the ones on the A2.
@Dracounguis, I don't really know. You need gravity to use any bombs, but I don't think CIG is that detailed to use gravity strength as a factor in how fast a bomb falls.

@melvinroodbol7195, thanks for watching. I have not tested bombing in the last update 3.23.1, it's possible MM messed something up with the aiming. The bomb should hit somewhere in the green circle as long as you have a lock on the ground target.
