God no, a pointless interior only wastes space and in a starter that is already fight for room, it's a criminal design desicion. It's just awkward and badly planned.
The Intrepid would be a phenomenal ship if they had it specialize around exploration or data running. Would it replace the Titan as a generalist? No, but the ship basically SCREAMS scout and frontier explorer. It'd probably be the go to ship any solo explorer would want to make an apartment far away from home. Then it wouldn't really matter what size gun the ship has.
How does it not specialize in exploration? It’s a small RV that has plenty of cargo area to collect stuff and plenty of HP so it can take damage while running away. Shields go away when entering nav mode. No, you don’t want combat, but you’re just living out of this thing.
Not talked about in the review so maybe you can answer: How is the flying? In does it respond well and fast? Does it feel more like a fighter then a freighter?
Thats not the Intrepids fault. Its because of the HORRIDLY overtuned state of ships. After Master Modes a lot of ships were "up gunned" and some weren't. Example being the Avenger compared to the Cutter. The Avenger is the problem. This ship is entering a balanced lineup if the Avenger didnt get pushed up from its two size 2s and size 3 to its current 2s3 and 1s4
@@wafflesinsanity honestly the avanger is just way to good. Its a fighter with intrior. 5he base avanger can be downgraded but the bounty hunting variant should have the full capacity The other problem is that the avager is old and is designed around gimbles while the intrepid isnt
Reminds me of when a car company tried to reimagine a distinct car design while trying to keep the key points that made that car distinct in the first place.
I know you are talking about the mustang, but I can't help but see cyber-truck in this thing because, holy hell, are there no good angles to look at this thing.
If the engineering console was moved to the left part of the ship and the 2 cargo holds were combined into 1, with 2 SCU of height (totaling 16 SCU) it would qualify it as an amazing entry level hauler.
lots of horribly wasted space, the whole front of the ship could have housed more cockpit space while leaving the s4 mount RIGHT where it is. What a bad design.
I feel like it's going to be a Cutter-performing ship while being Avenger priced due to it's size. Cutter has 2 s2 guns, Intrepid has 1 s4 gun. Cutter has 4 s1 missiles, Intrepid has 2 s1 missiles. Intrepid has 8 SCU of cargo, Cutter has a ramp that can fit an STV or even a ROC if you fit it in. The main issue for the Intrepid will be it's price-point, which we all know CIG will try to sell for Avenger Titan priced or more.
All these starter ships are trash at combat. Its best to just use it as a basic starter and move up quickly. I expect after release the starter ships will be a rare thing to see in the universe.
Yeah it defintely seems like a cutter competitor to me, relatively underwhelming in performance compared to others ships- but it's got a cool factor. But I think we'll be paying a premium for the interior space.
Agreed, I'm hoping for around $45-$50 standalone ($60-$65 game package) like a Cutter/100i competitor, anything more than that and the Titan would make it obsolete. If you actually look at the dimensions, the interior is a lot bigger but the exterior is only slightly bigger than the Cutter, so I still think it could be reasonably priced.
I love how cozy, retro-futuristc this ship is. It's easy to enter, have a unique cargo area which is fun to work with. The small living area is right out of star wars. Yeah it's wonky on the outside, but you're not flying it from the outside.
This, and honestly the outside isn't *that* bad. It's definitely not my favorite, but I wouldn't personally call it ugly. The Aurora is ugly. The Nomad is ugly. The Intrepid is unbalanced, but it has good textures, a mix of minimalist and detailed areas, and it looks like something that is light and nimble but not a weapon of war.
@@ohisheh Oh, when you press F4, do you appear outside of the ship? Your body, steering, magically from the outside? Or is it just shifting the camera to a new angle?
I really like the originality brought to the table with the intrepid. Bravo for taking artistic freedoms. It has one of the coolest interiors out of most ships
Something I love star citizen for Is the ship variety. There are now so many that you can easily be surprised in game by a ship you have never seen before. Even if you do follow all development we are reaching a point where there are so many ships, you might not reemmber them all. It's exciting to walk out on to a pad and see a ship land that you've never seen previously. I like that no ship is perfect. That there are lots of trade offs. The intrepid is interesting and for that it's a win in my eyes.
That's pretty much where I'm at. Been 'playing' since 2014 and am starting to lose track of ship development to the point where I'm seeing ships for the first time in game even after they've been out for months. Saw this ship and thought it looked cool and ended up using some spare store credit to pick one up for fun.
The funny thing is... this is the first crusader ship that i really like 😅 Especially the interior design (no wasted space like the MSR) or the dedicated areas (no tube like C1) are really nice. Since the S4 Upgrade i like the exterior even more. I could see myself buying my first crusader ship as my daily driver 😁 (Btw. Drake and RSI fan here xD)
I also really like a no-frills ship like this one, with no useless gimmicks, but people have different opinions. Starter ships are useful everywhere because of their short claim time.
The reason it's so hard to knock the Titan out from it's King of the Intro Ships pedestal is because, as those of us who have been around since the beginning know, it was never originally considered or sold as an intro ship. It was it's own sort of mid-range offering akin to the Origin 300 series, etc. Somewhere along the line, CI started calling it an intro ship and here we are wondering why they still can't seem to match it's value for money. I think the Intrepid is fine; it's more asymmetrical than anything else out there; even the Star Runner isn't really asymmetrical as there is a singular spine throughout the ship that is evenly between the thrusters and cockpit; they simply build space around it to make it look asymmetrical. I just don't know why we need so many starter ships; I think we have more than enough now. Thanks for the video.
I actually think Starters are one area that *should* have a lot more options than "needed". Since they're going to be many players' first ship or first upgrade, there should be enough choices that people can find one that speaks to them personally. They aren't really going to distinguish themselves in any performance metric, so it's all about setting the right vibe
Yeah, none of the Crusader ships are asymmetrical as they all have a centerline cockpit. In my opinion they should have done the same with the Intrepid and have it equipped with a S3 gun on both sides of the cockpit. Sure, you'd lose some of that interior stuff; but they could have easily placed all the amenities inside similar to the Spirit while still allowing for 8SCU of cargo in a 2x4SCU setup on either side of a walkway. To me the Interpid is by far the most ugly ship they made yet where it was made to look like a fighter with a big gun only for it not being a fighter at all (not with a single S4 and just 1 S1 shield at that size with poor speed and low agility). The Intrepid seems to suffer from an identity crisis.
Every manufacturer should have a starter ship or two. As it gives new players a variety of options to choose from. And some players will even use starters for most of their career. I can even imagine some players just sticking to starters so they can enjoy the "simple" life of SC.
@@HunterSteel29 Agreed. At minimum, every or very close to every manufacturer should offer something along the lines of a starter ship. It just makes sense that most manufacturers would not want to completely miss out on a possible market segment.
@@HunterSteel29 Heck, I have a pretty big fleet but still enjoy simply flying my Avenger Titan, 325a, or 135c. I also think it would be nice if Crusader had 2 starter ships to choose from; one being this asymmetrical Intrepid Winnebago wne the other being a more symmetrical option with a S3 gun on each side of the cockpit and maybe a bit less flamboyant interior. Just something akin to the Spirit but smaller.
I love this view but I feel it should have gone a lot more in a direction. Either a even bigger canon or dedicated data storage computers & "smugglers' holds", or both.
even though this ship isn't really that good compared to the other starters, i love it. it feels like it fills in a bit of a niche in between something like the 100i and the c1. its a starter, but it feels like you can live in it
I love the "naked" engine behind the ship. Add a really good constrast with the rest of the ship (as long as the color of it is bright enouth). The indoor is incredible. But my god the exterior is 50% ugly, 50% nice. It's really weird. It's strange to have an asymetric design because the big canon would have been fine on top of the ship. 100i series is still my fav for a starter, then this one, the the alien one. It's also weird that the ship isn't focus on combat. Yet the main visual focus is the gun. Weird.
Yeah the canon couldve been placed ontop of the ship, but the interior would clash with the cockpit. Unless you were to replace the suit locker with the door to the cockpit (roughly) - but honestly there goes half the charm of the ship and it feels just like any other ship.
Agree with the desire for a window in the living space, it's the last missing piece from full immersion while spending time on the ship - I can't imagine it's a performance issue, there are plenty of other ships with windows in areas other than cockpits
even with that size 4 gun ist stronger then most starter ships like arurora or mustang, the only problem is the shild, but unlike the other startes it has interior i say it a 80-100 bugs ships just because it has allready more then most starter ships starting with many of them just having 2 size 1 guns bitching about just one size 4 gun is madnes compare to 2 sitze 1 guns
i wouldn't bother anyways thats just a waste and upgrading the gun size would be useless anyways as the s4s are at best for anti fighter or smaller, s5 and up start getting into the larger ship territory and the s7 on the ion and inferno is right there, so adding another weapon system and more missiles maybe, either way its just in a very poor spot..
I think there will be a variant with a big gun but less apartment. This ship we have with pretty much the best starter apartment including suit lockers and weapon lockers, lots of personal storage and plentiful SCU cargo grid storage. Suitlockers and weapon racks will eventually matter when the only way to recharge suits o2 and batteries is either via consumable or placing them in a rack, while energy based tools can recharge in a rack and energy weapons may even be able to recharge in a rack. Meaning this is one of the best solo FPS players ships. You have everything you need, more than cutter or origin in features and in storage (8SCU) but to balance it they cut the firepower. Granted people would complain of power creep if it had an S5 so they put on an S3 and people complained it was too small, so it's been upgrade and in theory everyone is happy.
Unfortunately, people still arent happy eventhough they upgunned the Intrepid. People still find areas to complain, like now its the "1x S1 shield is not enough" that I keep seeing on people's reviews and reddit. In my opinion tho, I think the intrepid has one of the best chassis that CIG can variant off of. For example, removing one side of the cargo grid and adding additional additional components (shields/coolers/powerplants)+ upgunning it to S5 would be a good idea for a starter fighter. Or even removing the cargo grids and adding a bespoke missile rack/torp would make it a small stealthy missile boat. I absolutely love what the intrepid is now, as I see it as a great stealthy/starter multipurpose ship. My single constructive feedback would be to consider increasing its speed and maneuverability a tad bit. That would then make this little ship stealthy (theoretically its already stealthy with those single S1 components) and fast, opening up a future avenue for players to explore: scouting/blockade running/etc.
@@a.plipps I absolutely feel like min/max performance comparisons are somewhat out of place in Star Citizen. Yes, the comparisons have to be made to some degree. You can't have differences so big that they just make choice a no brainer where everyone will fly the same ship. But I'm personally 100% okay with some ships being lackluster in areas compared to their direct competition. SC ships have a lot of character that sets them apart.
Clearly this won't happen, but I think they should have abandoned the asymitry here. They should have just put the cockpit in the middle and given it 3 gimbaled size 2/3's. If they wanna make the clear relation to the Ares, it needs to be able to actually use that asymmetrical weapon. Make it bigger or give it an array over there. 3-4 tandem fixed weapons poking our like the vanguard would be unique and more useful for sure.
It's a mobile home, more than any of the other roles it could play. That's it role. Although I saw another comment that mentioned scout and explorer. You said it yourself: the interior is best-in-class, while being only adequate in everything else. I think you're right in that it needs a second pass to refine a few things: better shields, more weapons, a better laid-out cargo space, and a couple of windows would all be welcome, just to make it a smidge better. I think they should cut the sliding, elevated pilot's seat and simply make the main corridor a single level; they seem an unnecessary complication and take up valuable space on small ships, space that could be dedicated to storage, or a slightly larger living space.
Yep, it's effectively a Space Winnebago. Imo they wasted a good design as they could have put the cockpit centerline with the ship (like every other Crusader ship). That way it could have had a S3 gun on both sides sitting closer to the cockpit. Now the whole thing just looks off.
7:41 I'd like to see something like this on an updated version of the Origin 300 series. It's been a minute since I've flown my 325a and don't know if the cargo area's ever been fixed.
That mount screams 'bespoke S4 with up-engineered capacitors', but instead it's just a regular S4 (and that was after some community complaining). Dang shame, weapons matter in SC and if it had even a pair of S2's, I'd probably have traded in my Titan.
i think if they went with less space between the gun and the cockpit (basically make it less asymetrical by bringing the gun closer to the cockpit) it would look much better
Even if it's not a great starting ship, I like ships like this one that have that feeling that you could live in it and use it for day to day tasks...even if that involves running away from combat. I do agree that the big gun really makes it seem like it should be a combat ship. Kind of wished they skipped it in favor of a bit more interior space or an auto turret or something and gave us a way to use an additional shield so it can at least have higher survivability. I feel like this could be a great ship for shuttling between ground-based combat missions and light courier missions.
something I'm noticing whenever I see the intrepid in combat is that it seems to have 4 quadrant shielding (at 10:44 the front shields are almost down but the others are fine), but I thought all small ships had bubble shielding?
I love this ship. It’s art. It messes with your brain with what feels natural to you. Even with an asymmetric designs, there can be a natural look… and this just isn’t that. I LOVE it!
In the past during some interviews with devs they showed us how it is possible to sketch a ship in one hour by putting together various existing pieces. This ship is something like that. The interiors are certainly well-finished but the exterior design is a simple agglomeration of rushed things
Agree. Outside is like a design by committee. Management changed their mind midterm, but never allocated time for a rework. It is chunky and blocky, a throwback to Elite Dangerous ships, with their designed in the 90ies vibe. It is not innovative at all. Hope it is not a trend.
I think this will be my true starter ship. Looks like it gives me entry level vibes with a small bit of everything to see what I like and start focusing on.
You know what i think wouldve been awsome? 3 guns all side by side, more reminiscent of a battleship's combat station than a SC ship. It woukd keep the asymetric vibe in an even cooler way imo
I think it offends people because it’s A) unnatural to people’s brains and scares them a little. I like that though. It makes it infatuating and B) they wanted something that’s not this ship.
I like to think that people are smart enough to know that asymmetry in this ship feels a bit forced, or at least designed with a much bigger weapon in mind.
First thought looking at this ship was it must belong to something like "sniper" class. Turned out the gun is just a deco. No special functionality, why special design?
I like how the exterior is however my main issue with it is the rear cargo area being the two 4 SCU Racks when it could just be a full drop down pad, or two 8 or 12 SCU racks instead.
Glad you and I are on the same page with this ship. I posted a response on Spectrum a few days ago basically suggesting the same thing. As a starter ship, to me it only makes sense if they price it to compete with the Aurora and Mustang. It has a much greater quantum fuel tank and holds more cargo so it makes sense for new players who want to focus cargo and exploration and have no interest in ship to ship combat. If it’s priced any higher the other ships all offer more for the money than the Intrepid. I’d even recommend the Cutter over it since it can fit small ground vehicles and has a less claustrophobic inducing interior. I also wholly agree with your point that if the Intrepid is not ment for combat then its design is a bit misleading.
There have been many comments discussing the comparisons between starter ships so I decided to compile stats on my top 3 under 100$ alongside the Pisces which I believe is it's closest comparison. I went with the Avenger Titan as my pick years ago however the Nomad's cargo capacity, better shields, and strong missile racks really makes it stand out in my opinion. I would very likely recommend the Nomad but I haven't had the chance to fly one yet so for now I'm sticking with the Titan. Starter Comparison (All ships equipped with Attritions for consistency) Intrepid (??$) 1 Size 4 Weapon = 815 dps (1xS5 would be 1355) 2 Size 1 Missiles (2312 dmg) 1 Size 1 Shield 8 scu cargo Nomad (80$) 3 Size 3 weapons (1629 dps) 8 Size 2 Missiles (19 204 dmg) 3 Size 1 Shields 24 scu cargo Avenger Titan (75$) 1 Size 4 and 2 Size 3 weapons (1901 dps) 4 Size 3 Missiles (9602 dmg) 2 Size 1 Shields 8 scu cargo Syulen (70$) 3 Size 3 weapons (1 629 dps) 12 Size 2 Missiles (28 805 dmg) 2 Size 1 Shields 6 scu cargo C8X Pisces (60$) 4 Size 1 weapons (1072 dps) 2 Size 1 Missiles (2312 dmg) 1 Size 1 Shield 4 scu cargo I think with it's current loadout the Intrepid feels quite underwhelming. As it stands it can't even compete with the C8X in terms of firepower and even if they up-gunned it again to a size 5 hardpoint then it would still be worse than all of the other ships mentioned here. If they want to price the ship close or above the Titan which I think is likely their goal, it needs something else that it brings to the table. I really like the idea of making it a smuggler / data runner like others have mentionned, that sort of ship wouldn't need exceptional firepower and would make the already unique cargo layout even more special.
The only starter I bring myself to still own and come back to, though due to its price I wouldnt call it a starter, is the Nomad. There isnt another ship that beats its firepower, scu storage, capable of carrying cyclones and below and that has a pretty ok interior even after all these years. It is also not loved by many making it a bit marmite so I like it even more, the only thing I would like changed is an actual interior storage (non functioning) and to have a proper bathroom, a toilet just doesnt cut it.
I feel like the ship would have looked a lot nicer if they had centered the cockpit like the 2 Starfighters. Having both the cockpit and the tiny weapon skewed to the side just make it look... odd, to say the least.
Want my honesty Make this the new base ship A third option for $45 that players can get into the game. Do that and this is a king of starter ships Do the same for the cutter aswell Make those two the new base ships and knock out the old outdated starter ships Make that move CIG and no one will complain about this ship and welcome it fully Those two ships be amazing ambassadors to the game and allow new players to enjoy this game vs being annoyed by the outdated and old base starter ships
i don't think it'll be that low as a entry ship, itll probably be around 60$.. its just it would need that drop in price to make any sense with the standard titan being 60usd
@yulfine1688 My issue is that both the entry-level ships are so far behind and don't have any features to them that show the future of the game, by having them as entry-level ships it shows the game in a negative light when the cutter and the intrepid have the least features and show what this game can be.
A symmetrical version would have been perfect (with a little bigger engines). I also like the change you drawn on the cockpit to make it closer to the Ares / Mercury cockpit, those lines looks way better to me.
It looks great, but in terms of capabilities it’s probably the worst out there. The titan makes so much more sense for most players, or the 300i if you want some style and care less for cargo. And the nomad is the unbeatable starter for players who want to focus more on non-combat (although it actually would fare way better than the intrepid in combat as well). Even the tiny Aurora easily outclasses this ship in combat. The least thing they can do is give it a S5, and add a couple more S1 or even a S2 shield. As it stands this thing is a pretty camper that can do a box or courier mission.
The Millennium Falcon is probably one of the most famous ships in Sci-Fi fantasy so, it's not far-fetched that asymmetrically designed ships can be popular.... if done correctly. I agree on most, if not all of your talking points.
The section between the gun and the cockpit needs to be symmetrical to the left side of the cockpit, or at least completely straight. Right now that section is line with the back wings and makes the ship look very strange and almost lopsided. To the right of the gun there's also this line that points towards what would be the tip of a gun, but since the gun I so small it makes it look less significant. Lastly, the top part of the ship looks empty, and just needs some more greebles.
I feel like this ship could've been more... Either with a bespoke weapon sitting between S4 and S5 and a second S1 shield or upgrade to one S2 shield... Or go a completely different route and make it a neat little tugboat, replace the big weapon with a tractor beam akin to the Argo SRV, but smaller. Maybe add 2 S2 weapons directly underneath the cockpit to be able to fight off smaller threats or shoot debris out of the way.
I think you hit the nail on its head with most of the exterior design choices... Particularly with the engines, I think there was a missed opportunity here to invoke a semblance of familiar Crusader design language whilst actually creating a new layout more befitting to the ship of this size. Just like you mentioned they did with the interior.
I actually kind of like the way it looks, especially now that they made it have a S4 gun. Honestly if i was just starting SC now instead of years ago, this is the ship i'd probably get even though i love Drake.
An extra size 1 shield, size 5 or bespoke gun and a server rack for data running would make this a good starter in my book with an identity as a bit of everything ship.
@@pilksuk you talk about a non starter ship if they do this.................... just look at the weapons other started have mustan has 2x/4x size1 aruora has 2x size1, heraid 2x size1(thats a datamining ship) titan has less interior, suylen has no, nomads interior lags also stuff this ship has look at starter like Mustang Aurora or Pisces or Herald they are ships of less the 100 nomad cost way more and titen is just op
I rented an Intrepid last night during IAE and fell in love with it. Mind you, I don’t do combat, but as a beginning space trucker, I found it quick, nimble and loved that it could cross Stanton without issues with stock components.
@@ATigerShark yeah, even the arrow's top speed is only slightly faster than average. MM really killed the "fast" ships, they all lost all of their advantages and kept their disadvantages.
The main reason I was considering it, was because it was practically a habitation unit that could fly. It wasn't meant to be a combat ship. I was fine with the Size 3 Gun myself. They could've added variants that took out the cargo elevators and added more guns.
I sincerely think the coolest option would be to give it a bespoke twin-linked S4 laser cannon that is essentially a double-barreled S4. That would put in roughly the same class as the Nomad, 300i, and Syulen (my favorite starter). Bonus points if they make a ballistic counterpart to the weapon and allow swapping between only those bespoke weapons.
Something i do like about the intrepid is it takes a very basal stance amongst the crusader brand. You can look at any one portion of the crusder lineup and see the derivations from the intrepud in it.
Here's my take: It's strength is the thing no one has mentioned: Immersion. It feels like a ship that lives in the world. For a lot of people, as a premium daily driver, this will be ideal. There are a lot of players who want a ship that looks cool, feels cool, and has enough mission capability to do general courier missions, maybe some light hauling, mercenary work on bunkers and crash sites, and join their friends with some missiles and one big gun that feels cool to shoot. As for aesthetic? I think it's the Star Citizen equivalent of the Nissan Cube. Weird lookin; but kinda cute. An SUV/minivan, but with much less storage than you'd think. Memorable; but not everyone wants to drive it. Asymmetrical in a way that makes you ask, "But... why?"; loved by people who like unconventional designs. Soloists will want to stick with the Titan or the Nomad, though. Specifically the nomad. The Nomad has A LOT more storage, works as a great entry to mining (Roc), has a bespoke interior, gets 3x S3 CF-337 Panthers, 3x S1 Web Shields, and can last in a fight far longer. I've used the Nomad for a lot that people might think it can't do. As far as premium starter ships go, I think the Intrepid falls into the space of Enterprise IT workers and Lawyers who have money and only get to play 1-2 hours a day and don't care about min-maxing their ship. They just want to enjoy the time they have with the game while they play it. And I think it accomplishes that.
Surpised at the number of people calling this ship ugly. It looks great. The interior feature set is the best part imo - bed, gun rack & ammo storage, suit locker, a bit of cargo storage (on lifts for easy loading too) - everything you need.
I rarely comment RUclips videos in general. But i just want to say: i love your videos, they help me to pass through boring times at work and i am glad to see the quality of your videos getting better and better with each new video. Somehow i am top 0.1% of your viewers by viewtime overall, and i think you deserve much more than that, and something tells me, that soon my wishes will come true. Thank you for being you Morph, and thank you for your videos.
IMO we should get variants all should come W/1 S5 weapon, 1med shield and med quantum fuel tank. (except the starter) Like a bounty hunter ship, it should have the cargo area on one side be a cryo bed for captured bounties. Another variant could be a medrunner with med beds, where cargo is now. There could be many more variants, like a torpedo ship with 4 S5, 2 on each side where cargo is or even a bomber varent. All variants should have a higher cost, than the starter. This ship has a lot of potential if CIG handles it right.
@ uh huh. Again, the point of this ship is to be different and not great. Every single ship below $110 is designed to not be great. They are not just building ships to make money. They are building ships for the game when it’s released. Except for the titan, every starter is purposely bad. If they just wanted to make money every ship would have a medical or prison pod.
The ship design has really grown on me since I first saw it. Then I saw an interior tour someone else did and I'm pretty sold. That plus the buff to a size 4 weapon after community feedback make this something I want to own.
Nobody wanted this ship. The game didn't need this ship. What we need is a Nomad alternative. 1xS5 and 16SCU and this could be that. Seems like CIG are out of touch.
They're definitely in touch. No ship or vehicle needs to be like other vehicles in this game. It's just another option for those who want it. Everything needs to be different in this game.
I'll say this. I was drawn to this game for the experience only this game can give you, which is becoming totally immersed in a sci-fi setting. I can get my ship from a terminal, go down the elevator and get into my ship from the hanger, I then get to open the doors and walk around my ship, maybe poor a cup of coffee before I take off and begin my adventure. In quantum I can get up and sit at my kitchenette as time passes. When I reach a planet I can go to my suit locker (when it's in game), collect my suit and physically walk out of my ship onto the planet. This IS the Star Citizen draw that NO OTHER SPACE GAME HAS. The Intrepid and the Cutter are undoubtedly the only two starters that capture this feeling perfectly. Sure if you want to dog fight or do other shit, get another starter, but I put my money on the fact that most people got this game for that exact experience. This is why the Intrepid is the best starter ship for NEW PLAYERS.
that is a fantastic interior. I am loving how efficiently laid out the new ships are, just wish some of that magic would come back to older stuff like the constellation, freelancer, and cutlass
Size 5 gun, bespoke cannon would be good, but standard would work. Move the vertical stabs to the wingtips. Add new, bigger vert stabs that are longer than tall, not as canted inboard and, most importantly uses the angle of the canopy on the leading edges. Also, combine the cargo spaces into one and put it on the port side to provide internal balance to the external asymmetry.
Thanks for continuing to keep it real Morph, your review of the Polaris interior was spot on for example, and CIG need your constructive / critical feedback.
If the ship had a bit taller landing gear and the storage was a bit taller, it would make for a great spot to park a bike. I am just glad CIG listened about the gun, it's a start, but there is more than can be done to finish the ship. As it stands now, this ship really only has a home for those who like Crusader ships and not one for the masses as a good starter option.
I've heard it said that the A-10 Warthog, a real life military aircraft, is a massive gun, with a plane built around it in order to carry that gun into battle... I feel like that was the idea behind giving this ship's gun such a prominent placement, but it would've been better served being offset UNDER the pilot's seat.
I expect these will have a following similar to the Reliant Robin, where most people dislike it, but it’ll gain a cult following. I honestly think I will be excited every time to see these in the verse because they’ll be a rare, out of the norm sight.
The Intrepid really shows how the game has changed and grown over the years. In the early years a starter having a bed was a selling point, now a full hab is the standard. Makes me wonder what those older starters would be like if they had been made today.
This could be a perfect little entry level smuggler ship! Having those cargo ramps shielded would give this ship such a great unique role between all the starters, and it could work good also about the lore considering that the big brother msr is literally THE smuggler
the Intrepid is more capable in combat than the Cutter with the same extended range, and when configured for it, has a lower profile than even the sabre line. Its flight tuning is base medium fighter. Its quadrant shield provides a slightly different application for combat which almost everyone has missed (if it is intentional, which I hope it is). I suspect there will be variants. Everyone compares it to the Titan, but the Titan is interceptor tuned, so unless what you're comparing it to is also tuned that way, pretty much every ship is going to fall short in combat. I also agree with the folks that suggest if it had a bit of data running capability it would be great. Incidentally, I tried to put a pulse on it, and it does fit with room to spare, but the grav field causes the typical seizures and erratic movement, causing the bike to clip out of the ship. I like it, and intend to get one because it leans well into my preferred game loops, and its ability as a long range shuttle, extensive internal storage for carrying multiple FPS loadouts for other game loops, makes it a kind of "go bag" ship. I ran a halt illegal monitors in it, and it handled 3 on 1's just fine. It feels like it wants to be something other than a multi-role starter, which is how I see it, and I think if it does get variants those will do much better in the targeted roles. But as a starter, courier/smuggler, intro to engineering, a standard setting interior, it does great. I think it's a platform, this is simply the base model.
Perhaps if they put a dual weapon mount on the right side, with the two weapons being top and bottom, it would justify the layout. And maybe, there will be a variant of this thing that actually does that. In the end, though, this seems to be the Halibut of the space world. Google what a Halibut looks like and you'll know what I mean.
When you start weighing up the weapons (gun and missiles) plus the shield plus the (when it arrives in-game) armour, the best rebalancing they could give the Intrepid would be to add a PDC that pops up from between the dorsal fins (or just in front of them). A PDC would reduce some of the vulnerability due to the single size 1 shield, and add a little close-range beef to the single size 4 weapon, plus supplement the intended armour level (do we really trust CIG to get that implemented right?).
The Intrepid is such a great ship! I really like the design-it feels like a perfect mix between the Ares series and the Mercury Star Runner. While it's not a dedicated fighter, I think equipping it with a size 5 or 6 weapon could definitely make it a capable combat ship. What really stands out to me is its versatility. The Intrepid feels like a fantastic mobile home, similar to the C.O. Nomad, but with its own unique flair. It's the perfect ship for new players to explore the Verse in style, offering everything you need to survive and discover the universe at a budget-friendly price. In my opinion, the price should be below the Nomad because it has only 8 SCU of cargo space, a single size 4 weapon, and lacks additional features like the Nomad's tractor beam. The Nomad, in comparison, offers 24 SCU of cargo, three size 3 weapons, and the tractor beam for $80. Additionally, the C.O. Mustang Beta is another mobile home option, albeit with no cargo and just two size 2 weapons, priced at $40. All in all, this makes the Intrepid an affordable starter ship, ideal for new players who want a simple yet stylish way to begin their journey in the Verse. A price range of $45 to $55 would reflect its capabilities well."
Probably the best interior for a starter ship right now.
I still think the Nomad has the best interior.
Syulen all the way!
Going with the cutter personally.
God no, a pointless interior only wastes space and in a starter that is already fight for room, it's a criminal design desicion. It's just awkward and badly planned.
@@jlarry1 wish it was better, I love the look of that thing.
It might be, from what ppl are finding it has bigger than normal QT fuel tanks
swap the big gun for a pair of smaller guns near the cockpit, then have the big gun mount to house a fat scanner instead.
How does it not specialize in exploration? It’s a small RV that has plenty of cargo area to collect stuff and plenty of HP so it can take damage while running away. Shields go away when entering nav mode.
No, you don’t want combat, but you’re just living out of this thing.

Misread as 'Talk about the ion', which.. fits.

If the engineering console was moved to the left part of the ship and the 2 cargo holds were combined into 1, with 2 SCU of height (totaling 16 SCU) it would qualify it as an amazing entry level hauler.
Problem is the clearance under the ship too probably, so you'd need some kind of rear door too
I agree. But I think its done this way not to just be a clear winner to a cutter
lots of horribly wasted space, the whole front of the ship could have housed more cockpit space while leaving the s4 mount RIGHT where it is. What a bad design.
@ just make it more expensive than the Cutter
@ $55 seems like a great place and is a price point with zero starters
@@TheKinrentitan is pretty beast. Lots of guns and has the s4.

I love how cozy, retro-futuristc this ship is. It's easy to enter, have a unique cargo area which is fun to work with. The small living area is right out of star wars. Yeah it's wonky on the outside, but you're not flying it from the outside.
This
This, and honestly the outside isn't *that* bad.
I'm with you
Not flying it from the outside? Have you ever pressed F4?
I have never flipped so entirely on a ship, it grew on me after first impressions. The tweaks 100% helped.
The funny thing is... this is the first crusader ship that i really like 😅
Especially the interior design (no wasted space like the MSR) or the dedicated areas (no tube like C1) are really nice.
Since the S4 Upgrade i like the exterior even more. I could see myself buying my first crusader ship as my daily driver 😁

crusaders aesthetic is so great, love it. where you see "ugo" I see beauty.
They smashed an Ares and MSR together and that's it. I LOVE it!
i wish MSR would get such side door though
I bet they'll make a combat variant with a size 5 and no cargo replaced by missle racks. If it's not over $60 I'll buy it
even with that size 4 gun ist stronger then most starter ships like arurora or mustang, the only problem is the shild, but unlike the other startes it has interior
i say it a 80-100 bugs ships just because it has allready more then most starter ships starting with many of them just having 2 size 1 guns bitching about just one size 4 gun is madnes compare to 2 sitze 1 guns
i wouldn't bother anyways thats just a waste and upgrading the gun size would be useless anyways as the s4s are at best for anti fighter or smaller, s5 and up start getting into the larger ship territory and the s7 on the ion and inferno is right there, so adding another weapon system and more missiles maybe, either way its just in a very poor spot..
8:30 THE MIRROR WORKS!
I think if they just made the 8scu shielded cargo, this thing would be amazing. It's small, stealthy, and could smuggle drugs or something
Wow. I actually like the design of this ship.
Same here it’s like small millennium falcon!
Inferno: Oh look, a strawberry.
Ion: oh look, a strawbewy
MSR: Oh loohk, a stawbewy
Intrepid: ehh lehhh, eh stehbehee
The interpid is more like a 300 series Origin than a 100 series. It's pretty big for a starter and has full live-in features.
i think if they went with less space between the gun and the cockpit (basically make it less asymetrical by bringing the gun closer to the cockpit) it would look much better
The table should fold up, the seat extend to become a small couch, and a screen pull down in front of the kitchen.
something I'm noticing whenever I see the intrepid in combat is that it seems to have 4 quadrant shielding (at 10:44 the front shields are almost down but the others are fine), but I thought all small ships had bubble shielding?
I love this ship. It’s art. It messes with your brain with what feels natural to you. Even with an asymmetric designs, there can be a natural look… and this just isn’t that. I LOVE it!

@kyodoyumi7919 I like it. The people who say otherwise don’t even play the game, they’re just white noise.
I feel like this ship deserved a bespoke weapon. Something to justify the way it's mounted.
2:55 - The Crusader Ares is the 'Star fighter' hull, the Ion and INFERNO are the variant names, I think, that you were trying to say. :D
The asymmetrical style of it allows such a big decorated interior on one side. It’s a valid design choice and idk why people are mad.
I think it offends people because it’s A) unnatural to people’s brains and scares them a little. I like that though. It makes it infatuating and B) they wanted something that’s not this ship.
I like to think that people are smart enough to know that asymmetry in this ship feels a bit forced, or at least designed with a much bigger weapon in mind.
its disgusting
People aren't mad at the idea, they're mad at the execution.
First thought looking at this ship was it must belong to something like "sniper" class. Turned out the gun is just a deco. No special functionality, why special design?
I like how the exterior is
however my main issue with it is the rear cargo area being the two 4 SCU Racks when it could just be a full drop down pad, or two 8 or 12 SCU racks instead.
yep
"A ship so ugly that..." I DEFINITELY LOVE IT!!!!
At least Intrepid lasted 20 seconds before it was called ugly in the vid, 20 seconds for Intrepid not to be call ugly is really long ngl
People will say the Intrepid looks ugly while sitting in an Avenger Titan...
Starter Comparison (All ships equipped with Attritions for consistency)
Intrepid (??$)
1 Size 4 Weapon = 815 dps (1xS5 would be 1355)
2 Size 1 Missiles (2312 dmg)
1 Size 1 Shield
8 scu cargo
Nomad (80$)
3 Size 3 weapons (1629 dps)
8 Size 2 Missiles (19 204 dmg)
3 Size 1 Shields
24 scu cargo
Avenger Titan (75$)
1 Size 4 and 2 Size 3 weapons (1901 dps)
4 Size 3 Missiles (9602 dmg)
2 Size 1 Shields
8 scu cargo
Syulen (70$)
3 Size 3 weapons (1 629 dps)
12 Size 2 Missiles (28 805 dmg)
2 Size 1 Shields
6 scu cargo
C8X Pisces (60$)
4 Size 1 weapons (1072 dps)
2 Size 1 Missiles (2312 dmg)
1 Size 1 Shield
4 scu cargo
I think with it's current loadout the Intrepid feels quite underwhelming.
And maybe a second door to the cargo instead of a window.
It's the intermediate step between true starters and small-mediums
Have they buffed the nomad ?
I feel like the ship would have looked a lot nicer if they had centered the cockpit like the 2 Starfighters. Having both the cockpit and the tiny weapon skewed to the side just make it look... odd, to say the least.
💯
Want my honesty
Make this the new base ship
A third option for $45 that players can get into the game.
Do that and this is a king of starter ships
Do the same for the cutter aswell
Make those two the new base ships and knock out the old outdated starter ships
Make that move CIG and no one will complain about this ship and welcome it fully
Those two ships be amazing ambassadors to the game and allow new players to enjoy this game vs being annoyed by the outdated and old base starter ships
It needs more variants to be a proper base ship
Defiantly agree with this. The aurora and mustang are so crap compared to the cutter and intrepid. Ag least price them all the same
i don't think it'll be that low as a entry ship, itll probably be around 60$.. its just it would need that drop in price to make any sense with the standard titan being 60usd
@yulfine1688 My issue is that both the entry-level ships are so far behind and don't have any features to them that show the future of the game, by having them as entry-level ships it shows the game in a negative light when the cutter and the intrepid have the least features and show what this game can be.
It looks so much better when you can clearly make up those panelling lines
A symmetrical version would have been perfect (with a little bigger engines).
I also like the change you drawn on the cockpit to make it closer to the Ares / Mercury cockpit, those lines looks way better to me.
The most iconic ship of all time the millennium falcon is A symmetrical. That’s what this gem is here
It looks great, but in terms of capabilities it’s probably the worst out there.
This is the first SC ship that I can literally see the floorplan from the outside. I feel like it is something you can't unsee.
I love the interior. I wish my MSR had those octagonal doors

An extra size 1 shield, size 5 or bespoke gun and a server rack for data running would make this a good starter in my book with an identity as a bit of everything ship.
and/or the cargo being shielded for smuggling.
@@jde-jj1lu Its the perfect small smuggling ship, and shielded cargo would make it generally useful instead of just a starter. Hope they do that.
A good starter? I think you just made an end game ship for solo pilots
@@asog88 how so the DPS with a size 5 would be less than the Titan, nomad and suylen DPS output and they have 2 and in the nomads case 3 S1 shields
@@pilksuk
you talk about a non starter ship if they do this....................
just look at the weapons other started have mustan has 2x/4x size1 aruora has 2x size1, heraid 2x size1(thats a datamining ship)
titan has less interior, suylen has no, nomads interior lags also stuff this ship has
look at starter like Mustang Aurora or Pisces or Herald they are ships of less the 100 nomad cost way more and titen is just op
I rented an Intrepid last night during IAE and fell in love with it. Mind you, I don’t do combat, but as a beginning space trucker, I found it quick, nimble and loved that it could cross Stanton without issues with stock components.
And the MSR have a big mount for...... 2s3, like, come fucking on CIG. It's not like it will break the game to put what must be on the MSR
The MSR is seriously undergunned, it was fine when it had superior speed and manoeuvring, but now it's just criminal.
I will never melt mine though.
@@stuartriddell2461yeah now that just about everything in the verse handles with the speed and Grace of a B-17 it doesn't really hold up anymore
As a Star Runner owner, I love the look of this ship. Great vid.
Star Runner is my main. Ill be picking up this little Gem. There are use cases for it.
Love the vids, hoping for one on the Starlancer! :)
Something i do like about the intrepid is it takes a very basal stance amongst the crusader brand. You can look at any one portion of the crusder lineup and see the derivations from the intrepud in it.
I am just surprised he took his time reviewing it 😂
Here's my take: It's strength is the thing no one has mentioned: Immersion.
It's like a hate baby from the 325a and the Ion.
man, that is one amazingly beautifull ship! absolutelly adore that design! makes me wish i wasnt well past starterships at this point.
12:55 whoever did this landing needs to go to jail
Surpised at the number of people calling this ship ugly. It looks great. The interior feature set is the best part imo - bed, gun rack & ammo storage, suit locker, a bit of cargo storage (on lifts for easy loading too) - everything you need.
Until you're promoting these Fs and don't turn them off in the settings, your videos do not deserve any attention.
Thank you for being you Morph, and thank you for your videos.
the equivalent of the nissan juke
ugly af, but you'll see them on the road as they got some good points
Omg that little box carrier space is so cute. Definitely going to buy this ship upon release.
Irving you’re just missing the whole point of the ship dude
@@asog88 I guess you missed this part of my comment ... (except the starter) ?
@ like I said, I think your missing the point. It’s not supposed to be great
@@asog88 If CIG makes money selling ships, the game gets finished. Not build ships no one wants, that's a waste of time and $$ ... That's the point
Seems like CIG are out of touch.
this
It's not that serious bruh if you don't like it don't buy it
I aways wanted a starter or light fighter from Crusader... of this had a size 5 gun, I'd buy the hell out of it
Always have been
They're definitely in touch. No ship or vehicle needs to be like other vehicles in this game. It's just another option for those who want it. Everything needs to be different in this game.
This design is like the rebranding of Jaguar
The first CIG ship designed entirely by ChatGPT
Looks like you welded a spirit on top of an ares
imo the intrepid is just ugly, the interior makes no sense. i really wanted to pledge it as well as the concept was amazing
Honestly this is a fairly successful interior. Better than the fleshlight design the C1/A1 have
@@BunkerSquirrel I like my c1 :(
@@genotsSnorso do I
You say that but the interior is the one thing I like about it.
Now you're just a hater. The interior is great...
For pe the intrepid cockpit have been modified from the crusader language because of the fact that you can eject yourself so the canopy need to detach
Non whit paints make this ship more handsome. Also, like the cargo ramps, lifts,
The little retouching is a perfect addition
I kinda liked the initial screens, but this has sold it for me. This ship looks amazing!
