Doesn't the amount of Challenge Tour players doing well in the Pro Tours show that the current tour card system is not fit for purpose. Something needs to be done to reward talent rather than older players hanging on to their cards for grim death year after year.
Agree as I always do with this kind of statement
While I do agree, unfortunately there's no perfect system. I do think more emphasis should be put on the year that just happened vs the year before, so part of the solution could be, instead of losing 100% of the ranking points you earned 2 years ago to the day, you'd lose 25% after 12 months and the other 75% after another 12 months. So for example if I earned 100k on Jan 1 2025, I'd lose 25k off my rankings on Jan 1 2026, and 75k off my rankings on Jan 1 2027, as opposed to losing 0 on Jan 1 2026 and losing 100k on Jan 1 2027.
That being said it is simply impossible to always have the best 128 players in the world on tour. The best 128 players in the world in January are not the same as the top 128 in March, which are not the same as the top 128 in July etc. Then there will also be guys like Jacques Labre, Ronny Huybrechts, Robbie Knops, Josh Payne etc. who earn a tour card and then totally stink the place up for 2 years but there's really nothing you can do because it'd be very unfair for a player to lose their card after 1 year on tour.
One thing that could easily be done is to move more tour cards from Q-School to Challenge Tour and you're more likely to get more deserving, more consistent players. Awarding 31 tour cards in Q-School after 4 tournaments and only awarding 2 tour cards in Challenge Tour after 24 tournaments is so bad.
I personally think it shows not enough Tour Cards are given to the Challenge Tour OOM. Surely there should be 6-8 each year and fewer to Q School.
@@THH147100% agree with this.
The top 5-7 on the challenge tour are showing consistent results rather than a one day winner at Q-school. Yes, the one day winner did win outright, but we’ve all seen someone with a “flash” of excellence one day and then turn around and be sub par for an extended time. The players showing consistency are better for the top 128 vs the one day winners at Q-school
Definitely looks like it could be a new look worlds this year. A lot of the old guard who will have been in the last 5-10 years in succession or so. Need Beaton in it somehow
Its crazy for the Challenge Tour players to do so well on the World championship race (pro tour) while there is no longer the European tour qualifier for them. I guess van Peer probably played more European tours last year than now with the tourcard
Yeah the whole Euro Tour qualification is garbage.
They never should have changed the Eurotour qualification criteria to begin with
Something else to keep an eye on- Steve Beaton is currently 49th on the PDC Order of Merit and 53rd on the Tour Card Race, but as he's handing in his tour card at the end of the season, it could drop down to 65th
Love your content, would love to see a Grand Prix prediction video if possible
No problems it’s coming at the weekend
I expected an Edhouse 120 avg mention
10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 darter, insane
Thought that. Insane not to get a mention 😂😂
Don’t skip parts of the video then you will hear it 😜
@@leebryantravels he says it at the end
My excuse was I watched it after getting in from the pub lastnight 😂😂
I love your daily recaps, you're the goat of darts content
Thank you ☺️
Good coverage as always. Where do you get all the stats in terms of who is defending how much etc?
On the plus side, if Whitlock loses his card, he will be eligible to play the MSS. I don't think he will lose it though. He has enough to scrape through.
Same group as Mason
@@Edgartvdartshe could also play doubles on the WDF with Mason
Matt- next year can you please do a recap for every pro tour? love your recaps, but understand you have a life 🤣
I try to wherever possible 😊
Great video matt
Matt what would be your PL lineup if you have to choose it today?
Mine is:
Humphries
Littler
MvG
Cross
Chisnall
Heta
Bunting
Price/Smith/Wright (whoever gets the best TV results)
Dobey?
@@hiroboitelle9469 is an option if he does well on TV but I don't feel like he has done well on TV over this year
You've got that spot tbf.
Mot a lot to disagree with 👍🏻
@@hiroboitelle9469not doing enough
Will do a pre world championship predictor lot can change in the next 6 weeks
When you see how close Chris Landman is to Getting to ally pally , Did you see the Final Leg he had with Chizzy In Round 1 180,140,140 against the Darts then Chizzy had 170 and Breaks Landmans heart . Landman could have been 250 pounds outside ally pally spot but now its 1250 pounds outside . Meaning he must find 2 Wins at least in those final 4 Events to have any chance. Cruel levels and Punishment
Mervyn king and Simon Whitlock on the seniors next year I think
Michael smith outside of the top 16 just sounds absurd. I’m not waiting you’re wrong. You are and are amazing at what you do. I just know that Michael smith is top 3 on earth
Hahaha climb out of smiths big arse
Well if he loses early at the slam and world's he'll drop massively
Hahaha climb out of smiths big arse
what do you think will be the needed amount of pro tour money to qualify for the world championship this year? i think 27 with a good countback may be enough.
Matt apparently Woodhouse had cramp at the euros , he should drink tonic water that gets rid of cramp quickly
Makes sense
Graham Hall 105+ avg and loses 6-0!!! 120+ for Edhouse, his turnaround is unbelievable recently
Is there a reason why you still call it the PDPA Qualifier, Matt?? It hasn’t been called that for ages, it’s called the PDC Tour Card Holder Qualifier, sort of for obvious reasons…😛😛😛
Cause it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want too 😊
What happens if the event is played before it happened two years ago? You just keep that money on your ranking then?
I don't think so. It was more complicated with events cancelled in covid but surely players champ 27 and 28 will replace the money lost from PC 27 & pc28 in 2022.
No it’s impossible for the same tournament to contribute thrice to the OoM. In case of that happening the oldest staging of that event gets removed immediately.
@@EuropeanQualifiersHubthat’s what’s I thought. No event three time is counted.
@@Brandon-qd2lb Exactly, that’s what the rules say.
We need Mervyn King at the palace for the WC such a legend and fan favourite now. Also Steve Beaton needs to make it to Ally Pally also and have his farewell moment.
King’s only way to get to Ally Pally is by winning the qualifiers
@@anthonymatute6057 he's only £2.5k from 32nd automatic qualification spot. So good runs in remaking PCs would get him in
@@Vic-ey7kl okay
👍👍🎯🎯
Is grand slam ranking tournament
Yes
It is now yes

Every dartboard manufacturer will feel blessed when Whitlock loses his tour card and stops using aggressive points
PDC only use Winmau so only one manufacture. Why will they be blessed 🤔 if he destroys the boards they sell more 🤦🏻♂️ and I don’t think losing his tour card will stop him using aggressive points somehow.
