The small 90 degree rest clip-on thing isn't for use as an alternative to the spider, although I suppose you could use it that way. Its main function is for the times the cue ball is close to the cushion on your opposite hand, so that you don't need to twist the conventional rest in order to get to the centre spot of the cue ball. As a right hander Steven, try it down the right hand side of the table.

He was too short to be able to play a lot of shots, and places we play wouldn't always have the equipment to hand, particularly if it's just a pool table (where he would still need it). I use one personally, but I know a lot of people don't like them. A while back, I actually commented on one of his videos, pointing out how harmful gambling can be and criticizing his choice to promote it, since it ruins so many lives. As a keen amateur since the late ‘70s, maybe Steve Hendry has never seen, or has forgotten where this accessory is very useful.
I refer to the plastic rest fork slide on extension (that Steve Davis used), and I’ve used since I got one soon after seeing it, main use isn’t as an alternative spider.
It’s use is for better cueing when the cue ball and object ball are tight or very close to a cushion and it’s on your wrong cueing arm. The lower fork below the extended fork can fit under the cushion rail and the fork of the extension allows you to cue along the line of the shot. Not often used, but now and again very handy.
I keep mine over my cue tip to protect it in its case, which is another use.
5 out of 5 in my opinion 🙂
