  • Review from SCI client, Rody Sophian Joseph after Cyberdyne’s HAL® Therapy.
    * HAL® is the world’s first wearable cyborg, by which a wearer’s bodily functions can be improved, supported, expanded and regenerated.
Wearing of HAL® leads to a fusion of “human”, “robot”, and “information”. HAL® assists a physically challenged person to move and enables him or her to exert bigger motor energy than usual. HAL® is also considered as the system that accelerates a motor learning of cerebral nerves.
HAL® Lower Limb Type is a medical device for people who have disabilities in the lower limb and people whose legs are weakening due to disorders of the cerebral and nervous muscular system.
The device fits over a person’s waist and legs and is used in combination with body Weight Support System. While working with a trained medical professional, HAL® programmed to detect faint bio-electrical signals on the surface of the skin.
HAL® Lower Limb Type is designed to improve the patient’s ambulatory function outside of the robot, upon completion of HAL® gait training intervention.
When a patient attempts to move his or her body, a nerve signal is sent from brain toward the muscles via the spinal cord and motor neurons. Due to the spinal cord injury, these signals are often too weak to elicit the proper movement of the musculoskeletal system.
The bio-electrical signals are used to drive power units located at the hip and knee joints, allowing the patient to realize the intended movement voluntarily.
