I find it ironic that just as Griese is talking about how the noise doesn't stay in Michigan Stadium, the crowd lets loose an absolutely enormous roar when Manningham catches the touchdown. I'm a Penn State fan forever, but the atmosphere at the Big House is outstanding; I don't understand why people don't give it more respect.
my dad went to michigan..and he is a huge fan. he taught me to be the same big fan as he is..ive been watching michigan since i was 3. all i remember is sitting in the family room with my dad watching this game, and when they put one second back on the clock, and manningham scored the winning TD, i got out of my seat and screamed as loud as i could! it was the best michigan game i had seen in a while. GO BLUE!!!!
I was sitting 14 rows up in the corner of the end zone where Manningham made the catch. It was surreal watching the play unfold. Henne was looking that way the whole time so my eyes were locked on Manningham from the snap. When he broke across and caught it I about wet myself. My favorite Big House moment to date! Thanks for posting this!!
I was a cook while I was in college and I asked off when all of the Michigan games were on. I did not get off for this game (still pissed), but we had an open kitchen so I could still see the TV. I live in Pa so the bar was packed with PSU fans watching the game cheering and pissing me off. Ill never forget that final play, I threw everytihng up in the air and screamed as loud as I could. The entire bar turned around extremely pissed off and kept staring at me. LOVED EVERY MIN OF IT!!!
Still ties knots in my stomach. Such a tough loss to swallow... Much respect to Michigan for pulling through. It's one of the greatest games in college football history.
Same here. Unbelievable finish. Everyone was hugging each other. Best football experience in my life. I will never forget this comeback win by my most favorite team of all time. Go BLUE!!!
This was the best game I have seen in my life. I thought the game was over when Penn scored that touchdown. But Henne to Mannigham was a connection you could not beat. In 2006 Michigan almost had a perfect season. I hope Michigan does much better then they did this year
I've got season tickets to Michigan games and I have been going for a very long time and I have to say this is my favorite game in the Big House. For this down Michigan squad to beat an undefeated PSU team it was just a great game.
Ill never forget being in the crowd on this day, and the absolute roar when mario caught that last touchdown, we were jumping up and down in our michigan sweaters and high fiving with complete strangers, that right there is what michigan football is all about, GO BLUE!
I was at both of those games as well. Both of those games were insane, remember how many Michigan fans left at the 04 MSU game? Those who stay will be champions.
A couple of things here: This was probably the greatest game in Big Ten history. Absolutely classic. As a Nittany Lion forever, this was a crushing, crushing loss...but it still might be the most thrilling game in program history. It gives me goosebumps just to watch this. Also, thank you for including some Penn State highlights. I'm glad you were pretty objective here. I have been looking for Robinson's final touchdown for so long. Here's to another great game in 2008.
As you should. I was at this game and I carried the same attitude, though. Just before the last play, I kept thinking, "No way are we going to pull this out." So happy I was wrong. As great as the ending of this game was, it should have been over after Leon Hall's interception.
This was a great game. Michigan was one of my favorite teams and I watched the entire game. The play at 3:46 has got be one of the greatest catches I've ever seen in football. Manningham caught the ball around the DB, running down the sideline and he didn't even go out of bounds and he scored. Amazing...
The game that saved the BCS from another three undefeated team debacle. Remember the USC-Oklahoma-Auburn BCS controversy of 2004? If Manningham doesn't catch that, same situation, different teams.
I remember just sitting in my kitchen waiting for the game to be over. I was so pissed, with remote in hand and finger on power button, I watched... OMFG! Did he just catch that shit? One of the biggest emotion swings you can have. In a positive way ;)
when i saw that i still had to thrust my fist in the air. it was pure magic. I grew up around the big house and i have been to countless games there but this is by far the most amazing game i have ever seen. I saw it when i was 10 and i still can feel the energy after that play...pure magic
Probably the sickest I've ever been after watching a football game. 20 years old. I turned my TV off after Michael Robinson threw that INT late in the 4th quarter thinking it was over. Flipped it back on for some reason about 10 minutes later to see Penn State driving for the touchdown. Absolute roller coaster of emotions. Broke my heart when Michigan came back to win it. One of the few times I was close to tears over a loss.
the funniest part of this entire game is that lloyd carr fought for an extra second bcuz he called a time out and the refs let an extra second tick off, he went onto the field and got his WINNING 1 SECOND back xD
i remember this like it was yesterday. sitting on the couch watching and waiting, and then, it happened. one of the best michigan games ive ever watched. and hopefully michigan beats PSU today. GO BLUE
boy do i miss this team...even though 2005 was a down year (no where near as bad as last year though), i love to see old highlights of manningham, hart, henne, and hall
My first Big House experience, I will always remember this game! So quit before the td that you could hear a pin drop and then touchdown Manningham! Football is such a great game to play and watch!
It's so true. This one hurt so much more than even the Minnesota loss in 1999 or the Iowa loss last year. The most crushing loss I've ever experienced as a PSU fan.
What great football. I remember watching this live. It must suck to watch games like these on youtube and be a Michigan fan thinking about what the team has been like the past few years. They really have gone downhill. Here's to more traditional powers being good and clashing horns in epic matches like these in the future.
you're damn right about that man. USC - ND and PSU - MICH in 2005 was the last great college football saturday there ever was. after that season, the ncaa started messing up the rules and made the games shorter and changed the game (negatively) forever. this was the last great day of college football. both games were marred in controversy, but i long for those days where college football really mattered like it did in 2005. college football has fallen so far and it's incredibly sad.
I remember watching this game from my dorm room at Penn State. I'm scarred for life, but from a neutral football fan perspective, it was probably one of the greatest games I've ever seen.
I'm a Buckeyes fan. Michigan was insanely good every year until RichRod. I really don't understand why Michigan's AD or whoever thought there needed to be a change. Sure, you've lost to OSU a few times in a row, but that's the beauty of the series- both teams stick with tradition and every game is close and competitive. Michigan would come out of it just fine. I was at the most recent OSU-Michigan game and man it was sad to see how Michigan was playing like Indiana or YSU or something..
patricfurlife There was no one that could guard Mario Manningham in college. He was just a gifted player and on that last play he was there go to guy. No doubt about it.
Pictures have shown the Avant catch was good. Pictures also showed Henne's knee was down when PSU stripped the ball and got rewarded a bogus touchdown that got them back in the game. Can you tell me why PSU fans never bring up how JoePa argued AND GOT 2 seconds back on the clock in the first half? Carr is a baby for doing it but JoePa isn't? How convenient.
That whole season depressed me up to that point. When Henne was stripped for a TD and then PSU got a 2 point conversion on the botched extra point I just thought that was it. I wasn't even that optimistic after they tied it. Finally on the last play I was ready to be disappointed again and then Manningham caught it. I was so shocked I just stood there and said "he CAUGHT it". Took me about 5 seconds to start going wild. :D
Dieng! what a great game! I'm not a fan of either teams but, Michigan's offensive roster is Crazy! Manningham, Breaston, Avant, Hart, Henne, & Long, are all in the NFL. But on Defense there is only Lamar Woodley, & Leon Hall. Is there anybody else? LOL is freaking awesome!
Now that's what you call a trap game. PSU played a great game but Michigan fought til the very end. I saw the entire game and was on the edge of my seat til the very end.
i was at this game, it was so nuts. this would've gotten way more attention if the damn usc vs notre dame game wasn't the same night with reggie bush's "push" in the endzone. this game was way better!
I was at this game with my dad (I was looking 4 myself in the stands lol) there isnt a lot that we agree on, but if theres one thing we both love its michigan football, i remember praying 4 just one more touchdown, and Henne delivered.. i will never forget that day, i love michigan football, and i love my dad.. lol if only he had let me storm the field.. Go Blue forever and always
I sat in the north endzone and as usual, almost all the action happened in the OTHER endzone. On the final play, I couldn't even see where the ball went when it left Henne's hand. I had to watch the crowd reaction to know whether it was a TD or not.
He's from my hometown, Jackson, MI, and I had high hopes for his career. I thought he could have done some great things at UM. Its too bad he got injured.
i remember going to this game when i was 11 which was 4 years ago. the thing i remember was the last td and the fight that broke out in with one of penn states cornerbacks and mike hart lol
tell me about it... i have been watching these game highlights allll day. hopefully the wolverines can pull a miracle against that team down south this weekend.. GO BLUE!
Yeah, but this was after our big win against Ohio State and for me personally I can't stand Michigan, and PSU has really struggled against them this whole decade. The game was back and forth, a roller-coaster of emotion, and I was sure we were going to win at the end....... Chad Henne was one hell of a QB. I don't know why people gave him shit. All I know is that he was always a beast against PSU!
Looking back, at how the 05 season played out.. im still extremely happy with what PSU did.. Luckily Penn St. lost, cause Texas vs USC was the right call for a Natl title game
Everyone forgot that if Penn State would have won and Notre dame beat USC, Penn State would have played Texas in the Rose Bowl Game. Those two events changed PSU that season.
as it was, Penn State still could have snuck in if Texas lost the Big 12 championship to Colorado or if USC lost their last game to UCLA. Don't think either was close though. Fresno State did have a great shot to beat USC that year though
I included the bogus PSU touchdown that shouldn't have been a score since Henne's knee was down. I also didn't include the clip where JoePa succeeded in getting time back on the clock earlier in the game. It's O.K. for him but it's not O.K. for Lloyd? Lloyd was able to get 2 seconds back when we actually should have had 4 seconds put back up since the clock didn't stop when it should have. One ref even pointed that out later. Either get a brain or learn the facts before you talk trash.
I don't think Chad Henne ever lost a game to Penn State and I think they recruited him heavily, because he was from near State College. I think he was 3-0 all time against Penn State.
I sat in the opposite end zone, 5 rows back..what a sweet view after a disappointing game. What ever happened to Bass anyway, is his career for sure done?
For three quarters. But then Penn State took over, but the game still ended in shocking fashion. Even though I attribute that loss to bad calls, I also attribute it to Penn State spotting them a 10-0 lead.
I figured this was another Michigan fourth quarter meltdown. It was homecoming weekend for us, and I remember having to flip between this game and that great Notre Dame-USC one. Before that last play, I was so pissed I could vomit. A bunch of the guys behind me were booing Michigan the whole game. I was so shocked when Manningham got the TD. My reaction was delayed. I finally got up and turned to them and started rubbing it in, with a few carefully placed f-bombs.

My thoughts exactly. I had pretty much given up on that game before the final play and expected to see an incompletion. I'm so glad I was wrong.
Still ties knots in my stomach. Such a tough loss to swallow...
Much respect to Michigan for pulling through. It's one of the greatest games in college football history.
This was the most thrilling Michigan victory I've ever seen. My wife and I were right behind the band at this game.
Had to be something great to see. The only game I went to was the '09 Purdue game.. Of course we lost
This was my first Michigan game. What a great game it was
This was my first game at the Big House. One of the happiest moments of my life.
Same here. Unbelievable finish. Everyone was hugging each other. Best football experience in my life. I will never forget this comeback win by my most favorite team of all time. Go BLUE!!!
My mother and I went crazy after that last sec TD!! Those were the days! Love u Ummi
This was the best game I have seen in my life. I thought the game was over when Penn scored that touchdown. But Henne to Mannigham was a connection you could not beat. In 2006 Michigan almost had a perfect season. I hope Michigan does much better then they did this year

GO BLUE!!

history has shown to us that no matter what the ranks are, michigan can always come back and blow our minds. GO BLUE

Here's to another great game in 2008.
That last play from this game is a thing of beauty. I miss these days.
As you should.
I was at this game and I carried the same attitude, though. Just before the last play, I kept thinking, "No way are we going to pull this out." So happy I was wrong.
As great as the ending of this game was, it should have been over after Leon Hall's interception.
I was at this game! I have never heard Michigan Stadium so loud. The campus was on Cloud 9 for the whole week. Go Blue!
This was a great game. Michigan was one of my favorite teams and I watched the entire game. The play at 3:46 has got be one of the greatest catches I've ever seen in football. I was at this game, by far the greatest sporting event I have ever witnessed in my life. What a perfect atmosphere.
That 4th quarter was such a heart attack. Even watching the highlights now I feel I need to reach for the Pepto Bismol.
OCT. 15TH, 2005 The best regular college football saturday ever. This game was one of the many gems that proudly represented college football.
when i saw that i still had to thrust my fist in the air. it was pure magic. I grew up around the big house and i have been to countless games there but this is by far the most amazing game i have ever seen. I saw it when i was 10 and i still can feel the energy after that play...pure magic

Brent Musburger was the PA announcer? lol
As an OSU fan, I can count on one hand the number of times I was happy to see Michigan win. This was one of those times.
I remember running around the bar like a maniac!!!
As a PSU football fan I recall this as an absolute classic. I wish Big10 games would be as exciting like this was.
It's so true. This one hurt so much more than even the Minnesota loss in 1999 or the Iowa loss last year. The most crushing loss I've ever experienced as a PSU fan.

one of the best 4th quarters EVER
wow, I can't believe this game is going to be 10 years old this year
10 years old holy crap..#GoBlue
you're damn right about that man. USC - ND and PSU - MICH in 2005 was the last great college football saturday there ever was. after that season, the ncaa started messing up the rules and made the games shorter and changed the game (negatively) forever.

that touchdown throw to mario manningham what a pass and what catch damn

Henne was a great quarterback
I sat in the opposite end zone as well. About 13 rows back.
i was there too, besides the wisconsin game of 2008 that was the best game i have ever been to.
That whole season depressed me up to that point. When Henne was stripped for a TD and then PSU got a 2 point conversion on the botched extra point I just thought that was it. I was 13, literally on my knees praying at the game during the final play lol

whoops, meant that to reply to the one you posted. As in I sat in front of the game winning play :)
i was at this game, it was so nuts. this would've gotten way more attention if the damn usc vs notre dame game wasn't the same night with reggie bush's "push" in the endzone. this game was way better!

I remember watching this game with my dad, hes a Penn State fan never heard him swear as much as he did at the end of this game.
I sat in the north endzone and as usual, almost all the action happened in the OTHER endzone. On the final play, I couldn't even see where the ball went when it left Henne's hand. I had to watch the crowd reaction to know whether it was a TD or not.

Chad Henne was one hell of a QB. I don't know why people gave him shit. All I know is that he was always a beast against PSU!
A beautiful thing in the eyes of an Irish fan! I'll be the biggest wolverine fan in the world when they play penn state
Looking back, at how the 05 season played out.. im still extremely happy with what PSU did.. Luckily Penn St. lost, cause Texas vs USC was the right call for a Natl title game
Im sure Michigan fans don't want to hear this but a great game and a high scoring affair was the Northwestern/Michigan in 2000.
Everyone forgot that if Penn State would have won and Notre dame beat USC, Penn State would have played Texas in the Rose Bowl Game. Those two events changed PSU that season.
They would have gotten left out. Texas and USC were ranked #1 and #2 for the whole season and Penn State wouldn't have passed them.
Never mind I didn't see the part about Notre Dame beating USC. That was the Bush Push game wasn't it.
as it was, Penn State still could have snuck in if Texas lost the Big 12 championship to Colorado or if USC lost their last game to UCLA. Don't think either was close though. Fresno State did have a great shot to beat USC that year though
Josh Levi and if, and if, and if...
i went over to my friends house to watch this game and missed the final quarter of the notre dame usc game. I have never forgiven him for that.
Of course they put two seconds on. Paterno asked them to and so they did.
I remember exactly were I was and freaking my wife out when Henne gunned the game winning touchdown to Manningham.
Bob Griese is the Wolverines' lucky charm at home.
God I miss college football already.
best part was after Penn State scored everyone started to leave the stadium. Once Michigan Scored everyone started running back in.
I included the bogus PSU touchdown that shouldn't have been a score since Henne's knee was down. I also didn't include the clip where JoePa succeeded in getting time back on the clock earlier in the game. It's O.K. for him but it's not O.K. for Lloyd? Ya Bass is from my city and we had such high hopes for him. It was sad for it to happen.
I don't think Chad Henne ever lost a game to Penn State and I think they recruited him heavily, because he was from near State College. I think he was 3-0 all time against Penn State.
What a game.
I wish we still had Bass healthy. Imagine him as the QB in Rodriguez's system.
@CatchSpark Alan Zemaitis, who was first team All Big Ten in 05.
tht was a great game i remember watching tht
Oh ya I will always remember that day! And cherish it cause we beat Penn State with 1 second to go!
Love the reaction of the PSU band at 8:48.
Michigan for life
i was 11 watching this lol i was freaking out
I sat in the opposite end zone, 5 rows back..what a sweet view after a disappointing game. What ever happened to Bass anyway, is his career for sure done?
I miss the days where we had a reliable QB where I didn't have to close my eyes every time they threw the ball haha. Regardless, GO BLUE!
haha this comment aged like fine wine, cause it's still the same issue today.
For three quarters. But then Penn State took over, but the game still ended in shocking fashion. Even though I attribute that loss to bad calls, I also attribute it to Penn State spotting them a 10-0 lead.
Everyone likes to talk about the two seconds thing, but nobody mentions how Chad Henne was down on that one PSU touchdown
I miss Steve Breaston as a return man. We need someone to step up next year and make a difference.
And I couldnt fuckin believe that play with Chad Henne! The dude stole the ball! OMG I was so pissed!
It's hard for me to put this game over the braylon edwards show of 2004 against state
I figured this was another Michigan fourth quarter meltdown.
Of course it's Michigan. If God made a better football program he kept it to himself. Go blue
Don't forget Alabama edging Ole Miss with a late field goal, UCLA winning in overtime, and Texas Tech's QB throwing over 600 yards against K-State.
Brad Nessler, the voice of Big 10 football.
@007zachj
No, I think Michigan coming back from MSU 17 down in the fourth with under 10 min left is up there. Go Blue!!!!
Good win though
The last play matches with the last play of Michigan vs ND 2011. GO BLUE!
Breaston's returns KILLED PSU in this game!!! This game is so hard to watch!!!
