    Omg thank you so much Ronda for posting this, it’s revolutionized my punching!! I’m using the oxford punch needle and much fatter yarn, but your tip for sideways punching (saving me from using my left hand) and making a loop to change rows which you cut later have sped this up and made it much more enjoyable! Rug punching GOLD this is :))).

    This is the best instruction video I have watched! I have had my tail thread coming from the back and turning my work constantly...very annoying! I am only on my 2nd project, but I wondered why mine doesn't look as neat as others I see...now I will be trying your technique! Your work is beautiful! Thank you for the info!

  • @RondaTedder
    @RondaTedder  8 лет назад +14

    @samweddell the fabric used is a tight woven weavers cloth and it is the fabric itself that secures the threads/loops. Make sure your thread flows freely through the needle, and try not lifting the needle any higher than what allows you to drag/slide to the next punch, also make sure that your fabric is drum tight. Hope this helps. thank you for your question.

    I appreciate what you’re saying, but it is so difficult to actually see what you are doing. There are shadows and the camera needs to get closer to your needle. I would love to see you do another video with these changes because I feel like you’re techniques are better than most. I can’t see the bevel on your needle to really understand what direction you are using. Thank you so much.

    I watched your video and watched others. I get how it works. Surely if you ran a thread up through the back loops when finished it would secure it?

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  4 года назад

      Thanks for watching!! I really do not think so, the threads are only held by the weave of the fabric, the fabric locks in the loop, even with a thread ran through the back, the loops will still pull out. Any securing with thread would have to be done on the front side, iside each loop , which would not be feasible.

    Hi Ronda! Your tutorials are really helpful. I am quite literally a novice and until today did not know how to thread a punching needle. I just have a quick question - I kinda noticed that there is no mechanism to hold the thread to the fabric, and the whole work might easily come apart with a slight tug. Does that mean it isn't possible to embroider a handkerchief (or something frequently usable) using this technique?

    • @anuvydehi
      @anuvydehi 6 лет назад

      Aphrodite Chakraborty yes, you can’t use this for anything you don’t frame. One tug, and the whole thing comes undone!

    • @RondaTedder

      This is called a gripper frame, I have bought mine from Nistock Farms, you stretch your fabric over the frame, the grippers are sharp and will keep the material drum tight much better than an embroidery hoop. The tighter stretched your fabric is the easier punching goes. Hope this helps. Go to Etsy or Ebay and search for needle punch or rug hooking gripper frames. You can also visit the Nistock Farms website, they are reasonable and very well made, even made me a custom size.

    Can this be used on clothes you wash?

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  6 лет назад

      Thanks for your question! I would think that as long as you use an iron on woven interfacing and always did a mild handwash.

    Please tell me how your thread stays in the material! With nothing catching it in the back it just pulls right back out! Help!

      Nora Blevins Hi Nora! Are you using weavers cloth

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  6 лет назад

      Also make sure your thread flows through the needle freely, it cannot get caught on anything

      Ronda Tedder no just sack cloth. So that’s what I’m doing wrong! It’s all in the cloth! Where can I find that?

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  6 лет назад

      JoAnn fabrics usually has it. If not you can use an iron on woven interfacing with any fabric. Me lake sure it is woven. The weavers cloth is a very tight weave that holds the thread. If you don't find it locally available on line. I buy from punchneedlemarkplace.com

      I was having the same frustrating issue until someone suggested that the depth of my needle was too short. On my project, the depth was supposed to be 3/8" according to the directions but I took that as measuring from the tip of the needle when I should have been measuring from the eye of the needle. Once my needle length was longer, the thread stopped pulling out of the fabric.

    Can u use this needle and technique for cross stitching kits?

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  8 лет назад +1

      I do not believe so, the only part you could use would be the line drawing. Thank you for stopping by!

    I really hate to criticize a free teaching video, but I am frustrated by the total lack of contrast between the thread color (white) and the fabric color (white). For me, it makes what you're doing very hard to follow visually.
