Punch needle thread keeper tip ...

There are so many different ways to make punch needle go smooth, having a good thread minder matched to your project at hand is one of those things. This one works really well if you are sitting at a table and set your basket upon the table. You can punch holes in a box, paper mache boxes, anything to use to make a spindle holder. If you are using the DMC thread bobbins, a knitting needle works...
gripper frame tips for punch needle stretching weavers cloth

Having a tight surface is a must for making your punch needle project go smoothly. When you don't have a tight surface the fabric wants to bounce with your punch needle. I highly recommend investing in a simple wooden gripper frame.

    I create round coasters but they always end up as oval-shaped. I use a hoop. Could this be the reason?

    Hi Ronda, Thanks for your tutorial. You mention watching videos of someone that sounds like Laurie Brechan. I'm wondering who this is and how I may locate her videos for my own learning? I can't seem to find her on youtube. THankyou.

      This is called a gripper frame, I have bought mine from Nistock Farms, you stretch your fabric over the frame, the grippers are sharp and will keep the material drum tight much better than an embroidery hoop. The tighter stretched your fabric is the easier punching goes. Hope this helps. Go to Etsy or Ebay and search for needle punch or rug hooking gripper frames. You can also visit the Nistock Farms website, they are reasonable and very well made, even made me a custom size.

      Weavers cloth is the best fabric, although you can use any fabric if you use a woven interfacing ironed onto the fabric.

    • @RondaTedder

    If you don't mind a suggestion, what I do on vines and leaves, is punch the vine up to the leaf, then do the leaf, then back to the vine, to the next leaf, etc. No stopping, no jumping, no cutting.

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder 3 года назад

    Are you punching side to side? I usually punch towards myself, and turn the frame. I sometimes punch side to side in small areas, but it looks like I use more thread that way, since it's not as flat.

    I appreciate what you’re saying, but it is so difficult to actually see what you are doing. There are shadows and the camera needs to get closer to your needle. I would love to see you do another video with these changes because I feel like you’re techniques are better than most. I can’t see the bevel on your needle to really understand what direction you are using. Thank you so much.

    How do you tie off the ends

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder 3 года назад

      They are not tied, simply cut off close to work. If your fabric has been kept tight during punching the weave of the fiber will hold them in place. If you wish, some will use a fabric glue after punching is finished. You can dilute it with water and brush it on. I have never done this and have never had any problems. Thanks for viewing my video ✂️
