    If you don't mind a suggestion, what I do on vines and leaves, is punch the vine up to the leaf, then do the leaf, then back to the vine, to the next leaf, etc. No stopping, no jumping, no cutting.

    Thanks Ronda. A troubleshooting video would be great. Most all videos I have watched say to use a poly/cotton cloth, I.e., weavers cloth. But some say you can use 100% cotton. I can't find weavers cloth in our fabric or hobby stores, only cotton. Some videos say punch left to right, but I've seen people punch right to left, too. I would imagine the quality of the floss matters, too. So much to think about. I do love your videos.

      Donna Nelson have you checked at Joann's, they usually have weavers cloth. If you get some of the woven interfacing you can punch on any fabric.

      Hi Samantha, I really don't believe that would work without a woven interfacing. I cross stitch with 36 and 40 count linens and would not try using it either. The weave needs to be tighter.

  • @donnanelson9181

    I just started punch needle. I bought a kit and a cameo ultra needle set. I've tried three strand floss in a small needle and six strand floss in a medium needle and I have problems with stitches pulling out all the time. I've pulled the floss out so many times and redone an area that the fabric has broken and now I can't punch needle it at all. I think I've gotten the fabric pulled tight enough, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. My stitches look awful.

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  7 лет назад

      Donna Nelson hi Donna, it can be frustrating, make sure that you are not catching your thread on anything, it must run freely through your needle. If your fabric is too weak you can iron on some woven interfacing, you might need to adjust the depth of your needle fir the thickness. I am away tonight but will try to make some videos for troubleshooting soon.

    How do you tie off the ends

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  3 года назад

      They are not tied, simply cut off close to work. If your fabric has been kept tight during punching the weave of the fiber will hold them in place. If you wish, some will use a fabric glue after punching is finished. You can dilute it with water and brush it on. I have never done this and have never had any problems. Thanks for viewing my video ✂️

    I started punching and I notice that I punch really dence, but still I haven’t got the desired look in the front,
    I work with dmc perlé nr 8 at the moment with the smallest needle on nr 2
    I just ordered a bunch this morning of valdani threads nr 8 online, now I am worried, should I have ordered the nr 12 and work with 2 treads at a time like you do, maybe I still can change my online order and take the nr 12 instead. , bye

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  6 лет назад

      Hello, thanks for viewing my video!! It just takes practice to get your desired look. One layer of fabric is all I use, if you feel it isn't thick enough, I would suggest using some iron-on woven interfacing, you might need to adjust the level of your needle for the added thickness. Have fun!!

    Interesting to see your needle sideways, since I always hear the hole should be facing the direction of the stitch. I have had to undo almost a whole piece exactly because the needle pulled some stitches already made in rows next to what I was currently doing, so as I understand turning it sideways it prevents from happening?
    Your technique of making the piece without having to cut the thread and start again is much simpler. However it ends up wasting more thread which can become somewhat costly.
    Thank you for the great tutorial!

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  3 года назад

      Thanks for visiting! In reality it doesn't really waste much thread, you control that by how far you move and how much thread you cut. Everytime you restart you must leave a tail. It does appear that you would waste more, but I have not personally found that to be true. Depending on how close you cut your thread to your piece, I find that the waste is pretty much the same. What I like is that I can just keep punching and then come back and do all the trimming. Keep working at it, once you get your groove, you will love it! Happy punching 🙋‍♀️

    • @helenai13
      @helenai13 3 года назад

      Ronda Tedder thanks for your reply. I find it boring to start all over again, so this tip will be useful in some situations where we use the same thread.
      I don’t know if you have a tutorial where you mention it, but in case you find that the loops where undone on the wrong side, therefore the right side has a long thread as a result of the stitches coming off, what do you recommend? Cut that bit and punch again? I learnt the hard way by trying to undo that section and ruining everything next to it.
      Thank you in advance!

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  3 года назад +1

      @@helenai13 yes, punch needle is actually quite forgiving. I used to get so aggravated and pull it out. When you relax and realize you can easily fix an error it is so much more enjoyable. I used to pull it out when I didn't get close enough to the preceding stitches, then I realized I didn't need to pull out what I had already punched, but just go fill in. You can even jump down to a smaller needle to fill in if needed. My usual error was not making sure the thread flowed easily through my needle, like my hand or finger restricting it, sometimes it was my 🐈 with a paw on it.

    • @RondaTedder
      @RondaTedder  7 лет назад

      Hannah Lord hi Hannah. The weavers cloth is a very tightly woven fabric, it is the weave of the fabric that holds the threads in place. If concerned I believe you could apply some fabric glue to the back, I have never done that but I am sure you could. You can punch on any fabric if you use an iron on woven interfacing, if wearable a fabric glue should be flexible and work fine. Kindly~ronda

      Angels Haven thank you! Washing gently by hand would be ok, make sure to use cold water, not all threads are colorfast. 3 strand is fine. You could spread s little fabric glue on the back side or my preference is to apply an iron on woven interfacing.

I looked in my area for classes but was unable to find any so I am self taught and watching tons of videos on it. • @RondaTedder

      I do believe that one thing that might cause this is you might be using too large of a needle for your thread, along with trying to punch too close. Will do some more testing.

      Hi Brenda, So sorry I missed seeing your question. If using embroidery thread I usually use all 6 strands of embroidery thread, you can also use perle cotton. Just make sure the needle size you use lets the thread flow through the needle freely. I don't use any wool, but there is a new thread that I have not tried, it is Moire thread. Hope to try this soon. If you wanted to punch on wool you would need to use an iron on woven interfacing. Hope this helps.

      Good morning Tammy! I am so sorry you are having trouble. Are you using weavers cloth? Is it being held drum tight?. Your thread should glide thru the needle freely. Make sure you are punching all the way down to the base of the needle and that your thread is not getting restricted anywhere.
