    For anyone wondering, I put that “the dragon reborn” text at the part where I said TSR instead when talking about the dead gray man in the tower… Idk why it got messed up when exporting the video 🤦🏽‍♂️

    The best thing about finishing each book is getting to watch your reviews, the way you rip into characters is hilarious.

    It's a shame I didn't manage to finish WH at the same time as your video dropped. :( (I have been reading at the same pace as yours but I genuinely couldn't follow it while reading WH)
    I've loved every review you've done so far, can't wait to watch this one!
    Gl with the rest of the series.

      Haha if you couldn’t follow it with WH then good luck with CoT… might struggle a bit with that one 😂 At this point you just gotta push through to book 11. Hope you enjoy the later chapters of WH though, they’re pretty good, especially the ending to Rand’s arc.

    I'm pretty sure it was revealed in book 2 that suroth was a dark friend as she was working with liandran when they collared Egwene. Also, in the scene of the forsaken planning, Lanfears new body is described to be that of a short woman, maybe she took morraines body? No idea though tbh.

    • @Smycoo
      @Smycoo  Год назад

      Yea I think Suroth said they have the same master or something but the implication went over my head at the time haha

      She also said she would eventually collar liandrine, which is a well deserved bit of karma

    Great video! Personally I feel that crossroads of twilight isn’t nearly as bad as people make it out. Still a slog though lol. Enjoy the absolute masterpiece that is books 11-14!

      Thank you! Gotta disagree on CoT though 😂 Just finished Perrin’s chapters (ch.27 I think) and it’s definitely been a slog for me. Elayne and Egwene’s parts made it feel like one then the conclusion to Perrin’s axe to hammer was the nail in the coffin. Looking forward to book 11 though! 😆

      @@Smycoo I totally understand! Elayne's chapters honestly made me want to burn the book... I personally loved the Perrin moment near the end, one of my favorites of his (behind one yet to come).

    • @Smycoo

      Haha I actually really like Cadsuane after book 9… but what I’ve seen from some people replying to my videos makes me think she does something readers aren’t a fan of to say the least 🤣

    I love your reviews. You are almost through the so-called slog. Whilst I don’t see it as a slog, I do think the story slows down. It’s about to be so action packed. Enjoy

    • @Smycoo
      @Smycoo  2 года назад

      Thanks so much 🙏🏽 I agree, I don’t see it as a slog for books 7-9 either but it slows down a lot. I do think book 10 is a slog however. Egwene’s arc was a bore and Elayne’s was just painful 😂
      Very excited for book 11 onwards though!

    Burn through CoT as quick as you can, then pace yourself over the upcoming downhill charge to the finish. Im actually in sync with my reread atm doing the audiobooks for the first time. Crossroads of twilight is so much more stomachable when i can listen to it while falling asleep 🤣

    There are a few Wheel of Time characters that have an interesting history. Setalle Anan is one, and Elyas Machera is definitely another. It's been a long time since I read the series but if memory serves, I believe I'm correct in saying that neither of these characters had their back story explained within the books. I only discovered the information on the excellent Wheel of Time Wiki site.

      @@Smycoo There is SO MUCH information on the Wiki site. I believe much was gleaned from Jordan himself when he attended fan venues, and also from the copious notes and tapes he left behind, following his death.

    Matt’s arc is one of my favorites at this point in the series. It’s the one part of crossroads of twilight that makes it bearable

    • @Ishamael8

      That’s not to say it’s absolutely amazing in cot but it’s definitely the better part of the book.

      It’ll all depend on how much you enjoy his dynamic with Tuon as it’s by far my favorite relationship in the series because we see all the courting instead of just jumping to “I love him and we’re going to get married even though I haven’t seen him since I met him”

    • @Smycoo
      @Smycoo  2 года назад +1

      Yep, can always count on Mat to have some interesting chapters. Even if the plot of them itself isn’t exactly enthralling, Mat himself still makes it fun. I’ve only read his first batch of chapters in CoT so far but it’s been enjoyable seeing them not falling head over heels in love straight away like you said 😆

  • @therefep9723

    Man, Perrin frustrates me so much. Feel like his arc finished in book 4 and then RJ just decided, “you know what, let’s do this again”.
    Haha, your Elayne hate is cracking me up, I couldn’t agree more 😂. Although, I guess her entitlement is in character since she’s literally a princess.
    I might be mistaken, but I read the Slayer part as though he was sent to kill Padan Fain, not Rand. Rand wasn’t even in the Two Rivers in Book 4. Not entirely sure though.
    Congrats on the 500!

    • @Smycoo
      @Smycoo  2 года назад

      Thanks! Yea it really is a shame to see Perrin reduced to that.
      And you’re right. The sense of entitlement is definitely in character but cmon it’s book 9 and she’s still this bad 😂😂 Like I’ve said before, if she showed any redeeming qualities like Nynaeve I wouldn’t mind but she doesn’t so praying for her demise 🙏🏽
      Demandred charged Slayer with killing fain but he the mystery man sent him after Rand. Luc said he would’ve liked to have killed his nephew and the wench (Rand and Min) and if you remember he killed those two random after Rand had moved everyone because he thought the renegades might come for him in that inn.

    Man, I'm glad I'm not crazy, I really found Min annoying for huge chunks of the series. Wait till you get to book 11, I'm sure there's going to be a moment in there..

      Finished 11 yesterday... yeah, she definitely lost even more points with me there. To be fair though the blame is 50/50 with Rand still not being able to keep her away but at the same time her insisting on being there is so needless it makes me more annoyed at her.

    The hate for the girls always amuses me, despite not sharing it :P
    The high irony here is that MANY readers seem to take a "grrrl power" message from it all, whereas I read them as often deeply flawed and arrogant (by design)
    Think we all know which direction the Amazon show chose to lean...

    • @Smycoo
      @Smycoo  2 года назад +1

      It's funny you mention that. I was watching a video about the show and they were complaining about how the female chars were in the show and they brought up how lots of women love the books because of how well women are presented and how they're strong & independent
      When I read that I was like "uhhh, really??" 😂 I would've expected women to be offended or something at how all the women are portrayed as extremely arrogant like you said and majority of them are horrible to everyone like 90% of the time...

      @@Smycoo
      It seems a LOT of people read it straight, as some kind of power fantasy.
      For me, the gender politics are... exaggerated rather than caricature (though I wouldn't contest somebody believing the latter)
      Fact is, I find the female characters extremely believable. (Faile expecting Perrin to know what to do, even when she internally acknowledges that he has no clue about her cultural expectations...)
      Just like I find the naivety and insecurity of the boys infinitely believable :P
      It was only recently somebody made an observation that I completely agree with, but had passed over my head. (it may even have been you, you have some incredible insights sometimes)
      The imbalance of the taint made this age "female dominated" with so many societies favouring women and women exercising far greater political and cultural power.
      And as with any imbalance, it's not a good thing.
      Restoring that balance, men and women working together, is not only the right thing, but also results in the better outcome.
      The girls struggling against the worst of their own nature, and the pressure of the expectations placed on them, was always as integral as Rand's own struggles with the same to me. (Egwene is FAR more insufferable now I'm older though :P)

    it's astonishing to get this far into wot while dispising almost every character ... reading each book hoping only to learn of their hideous and deserved deaths. a land where the arranged marriage of misogyny and misandry produces the banal magic of baby boring.
